Sauer-kraut Posted June 6, 2021 #1 Share Posted June 6, 2021 I am a seasoned cruiser from, container ships to NCL and Carnival. I am looking at the Edge and wondering if it be too boring for a skittish first-timer. I watched videos of that ship and I'm completely smitten, a grown up cruise but do I need go more rowdy for someone's first time. 🙂 My friend has agreed to a cruise but is afraid of not having enough to do. Not my problem, I am fine to sit and read as well as do trivia games and such. Is there that type of daytime programming on board? My friend is in to entertainment, especially music, and after reading JamieLogical's thread many have posted that NCL's theater productions are better. Would you rank Edge's shows on par with Carnival's? I find their productions to be too loud and stupid. Are there musicians in the bars at night where you can relax and listen and move on and encounter a trio or duo performing in another lounge? Any other suggestions or hints are appreciated. I gave my eye on an October cruise from Ft. Lauderdale.

If it's entertainment and theater productions you are looking for....no one does it better than Royal Oasis class ships.
Rare cruisestitch Posted June 6, 2021 #3 Share Posted June 6, 2021 I would not recommend edge given what you have described. Head to Royal Caribbean’s newest ships
micheleata Posted June 6, 2021 #4 Share Posted June 6, 2021 I loved our Edge sailing, but found there were very few activities in the Daily Planner that interested us. Probably half of what is offered on the Equinox. We are fine to just hang out and read or watch the water, hit the casino or one of the bars. Rare Miaminice Posted June 6, 2021 #5 Share Posted June 6, 2021 If it’s the Carnival and NCL style you like, don’t go on any Celebrity ship! Us Celebrity cruisers love Celebrity because it’s nothing like Carnival and NCL!
Esprit Posted June 6, 2021 #6 Share Posted June 6, 2021 Definitely not the Edge based on what the OP has said.As much as I don’t like Royal Caribbean they would be a better fit but my personal recommendation is Princess for entertainment.

Head to Royal Caribbean’s newest ships Thank you for your input, I'm fine with just relaxing, but my friend isn't. I really like what I have seen about EDGE, but I think I will consider elsewhere. The embarkation port was great, the smaller passenger count would suit. Perhaps I'll go back and look at MSC Meraglia , but I dont fancy sailing with 5,000 other people. Spif Barwunkel Posted June 6, 2021 #8 Share Posted June 6, 2021 Have to agree with Miaminice post #5. I cannot speak to NCL but we have cruised Carnival many times, many years ago. We enjoyed those cruises but outgrew the Carnival vibe, kind of a go, go, go all the time. We came to enjoy the less boisterous environment of Celebrity. Regarding Edge or any other X ship, you will find the environment to be more languid, though certainly not unenergetic. The entertainment on the Edge class ships is basically the same as the entertainment on, let's say, Solstice class ships. Perhaps a bit more flare and modern-day presentation onboard Edge. Musicians are present at various venues on all Celebrity ships. If one is worried about being bored on a cruise, then perhaps one is unable to enjoy the relaxation and tranquility that cruising offers. Being entertained is a good thing. Quietude is also necessary. Find that happy medium and you will enjoy any cruise. Cruising X from FLL in October offers Edge and Equinox. Pick which itinerary and duration best fits your needs at this time and go with it.

If the friend wants to go than welcome aboard.
