Why?

Because it is not true. The ships will STILL sail at 95% vaccinated passengers. The “voluntary” compliance is their workaround on the Florida law. That process has been known for weeks.

Many responded to your post with the posted Celebrity policy on their website and contrary articles. The USA Today story was lacking in the detail that they will still sail at 95% vaccinated as required under their option with the CDC.

I'm wondering if Luminae will now be open for lunch on port days?

I just looked on the app and it is not.  Breakfast is 8:00am to 9:30am and Dinner is 6:00pm to 10:00pm.

My group is vaccinated and the demographics of the passengers will align nicely to our views of being on a cruise ship where viruses can spread quickly.  See next post on today’s email.

Actually you should read https://www.celebritycruises.com/healthy-at-sea/us-travel-requirements

It's the actual Celebrity requirements, not a media interpretation.   It still states that 95% of passengers will be vaccinated.   It does give option for a vaccine eligible passenger to not provide verification and be put in the unvaccinated pool.  Neither explicitly state what happens if the unvaccinated pool reaches the 5%.

Currently until the July 18th date when the FL injunction against the CDC CSO take affect I believe that the excess unvaccinated would be denied boarding as the ship doesn't have a certificate to sail with less than 95% vaccinated.  To me if the current injunction holds I'm not sure what happens after the 18th.   We know that Celebrity wants to sail with 95% vaccinated as do I.

Exactly.  It’s 95% for this sailing for sure.  If they move away from this, in the future their core passenger demographic will drop.  CDC says adults 65+ are 84% one dose and 71.9% two doses as of May 12.  Simple math game for Celebrity; think about the percentage of passengers that fall into the 84% which is higher now a month later.

Today’s email on what to bring to the port…

Thank you so much for posting this!

our TA just got confirmation from Celebrity that a card from the health care entity administering the vaccine was acceptable, the card does not have to say CDC. Those of us in health care that got vaccinated early have a hodgepodge of cards and I think at least one of the big drug store chains used cards different than the CDC ones.

I can’t see any reason why they would open on port days, but I may be missing something.

My thoughts were that Luminae might be open to limit the number of people using the buffet.

To lighten the load on the buffet and it appears that many more people on these early sailings will not be going ashore.   I doubt though that they will open on port days since that is when crew has time off and I don't believe the staffing will allow.   Do they offer the light lunch options on the sun deck on port days?

The Edge class does have a small menu at the Retreat sundeck.

So proud of Celebrity, ridiculous that folks would consider faking vaccination cards.  Putting crew and passengers at risk and potentially costing cruise lines millions. Personal choice comes with accountability for impact of choices.

I unfortunately know human behavior and cruise passengers are no different, a number of people are just rude and in it for themselves.  They will cut you off, hog a lounge chair, block 22 seats in the theater for "family", etc...I personally think the chance of someone actually going through the effort to fake a vaccination card is pretty small, but there will be someone that does it, just like folks who will smuggle a bottle of $12 vodka on board to avoid paying for it.  I've seen it all.

All I'm looking at the Edge for next May.  Will be my first time on Celebrity.  Can someone let me know their thoughts on the Infinite Veranda and the Aqua class.  Much appreciated.

I don't want to hijack this thread...but will give my 2 cents.

IV--Here is a thread about them (seems people love em or hate em...):

AQ--we did this on our first Celebrity cruise & LOVED Blu. We aren't spa goers so Blu was the only real advantage. We only did it as it was less than $100 more to upgrade from a regular balcony. Anymore, AQ is so much more than regular balconies, we could do specialty dining every night for the price difference.

Well the main advantage of AQ is  unlimited use of the Thermal Suite, so if that's not of interest to someone there would be no reason to upgrade to that level. If the price differential was insanely cheap, like in your initial example then yes, but otherwise no purpose if you're not going to use the spa.

Part of the email from Celebrity noted that embarkation would take place from terminal 18 at Port Everglades. I checked with Celebrity and they said that was a mistake and we would embark from terminal 25, it’s usual terminal. They said they would send out a corrected email.

As we get to the port there are signs that provide terminal information as to ship and assigned terminal. We’ll double check that on our way to the ship.

Bon voyage.

Just got the following e-mail...

Dear Guest,

We look forward to welcoming you aboard Celebrity Edge® for your 7-Night Western Caribbean cruise sailing from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Before we depart, we have some important information to share. Celebrity Cruises has been working closely with health and government authorities, in each country we sail from, to outline a clear path for cruising with new health and safety measures. As we thoughtfully plan our return to service, we are evaluating all current itineraries and the status of travel conditions around the world.

In an abundance of caution, to keep our guests and crew healthy at sea, we will require curated tours in Mexico for our June 26 sailing on Celebrity Edge. Based on the most recent travel advisory and vaccination rates in Mexico, we have reevaluated On Your Own Tours and instead will require Celebrity curated tours. Curated tours can be booked through Cruise Planner or the Celebrity Cruises app. We will continuously evaluate these requirements and provide updates as they evolve.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through these unique circumstances. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Celebrity Cruises at 1-844-418-6824 in North America or (316) 554-5961 worldwide. We look forward to welcoming you aboard soon for an amazing Celebrity Cruises vacation.

Sincerely,

Celebrity Cruises

Interesting change of events.  I wonder if you can at least get off the ship and wander the shops are restaurants at the port and not actually go out the other side?  We had planned to walk downtown on our July 10th cruise, but that looks like it might be in jeopardy.

Thanks….I’ve seen bits and pieces of this, either from my Emil’s with Celebrity or having my TA getting answers for me.  But, now it’s all in one place!  This covers just about everything!

Not stirring anything....but I am not so sure that 95% is going to include "Florida" sailings. Not so clear cut reading this....can be read as having 2 sets of policies.  Under "vaccination policy" it includes the 95% but under "For Sailings From Florida" it doesn't.

We’re counting down the days to your sailing from Ft. Lauderdale. Here’s important information on testing and health screening requirements.
US ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
All non-US residents must present a negative NAAT or Antigen test taken 3 days prior to their flight’s departure.
Be sure to save a copy on your phone and bring a printed copy. Name on test results must match those on government issued identification.
VACCINATION POLICY
Following CDC guidelines we will sail with all crew vaccinated and at least 95% of guests will be fully vaccinated.
All guests age 16 and above must be fully vaccinated (at least two weeks prior to sail date). As of August 1, 2021, all guests age 12 and older must be fully vaccinated.
Acceptable proof of vaccination must be in the form of the original vaccination record document issued by the country’s health authority or healthcare provider that administered the vaccination.
All unvaccinated guests ages 2-15 will require a complimentary antigen test at the terminal.
FOR SAILINGS FROM FLORIDA
Guests over 16 years old (over 12 for any sailing on or after August 1st) who decline or are unable to show proof of vaccination at boarding will be treated as unvaccinated and subject to additional protocols, restrictions, and costs for COVID-19 testing.
Additional requirements for unvaccinated guests 16 + :
You will need to arrive for embarkation with a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours in advance of arrival to the terminal.
You will be subject to a Covid-19 test at the pier.
A mid cruise antigen test onboard will be required.
An antigen test will be required at the end of the cruise. Please do not make early travel plans on the day of debarkation to allow time for the required testing process.
The per person cost for these antigen tests is $178 and will be applied to your onboard folio.
Masks will be required at all times onboard except while eating or drinking.
Depending on local government requirements, unvaccinated guests may be restricted from going ashore.
Unvaccinated guests will have designated seating areas in some venues such as the dining rooms, casino, theatre, etc.
