Love the thread, reminds me of the good times of a cruise and makes me glad I have one booked in the future.  The million dollar question, has there been any infections due to the virus?  Hoping not.

As far as I know - no issues with Covid on board.  We saw one young lady appear to be suffering from heat stroke in mahogany bay.  No social distancing required . Shows have been packed.

Our arrival back in port is a bit delayed - not sure if it’s a weather issue or something else.  We are pulling up to the dock around 9:15.

we had a great trip.  The vista is a beautiful ship and the crew was awesome!  So thankful cruising is back!

Kyndal Fire is doing a good job of communicating with people with this delay. I’m afraid it’s going to be a free for all getting off this ship though. 😳

I remember free for alls disembarking every time we sailed Carnival. I guess another return to normalcy.

Gee, reduced capacity and yet the people on scooters still manage to run over feet.🤦‍♂️ I wonder if that is a sign of a return to normalcy?

Did she at least apologize?

Hmm, I’ve used a “mobility” scooter for our last couple of cruises, and I have never “managed to run over feet.” I have, however, had a half dozen or so people walk into me while gazing down at their phones. Thank goodness I am adept at stopping. I’ll leave it at that so as not to turn this post into a gripe session.

Everyone has had good and bad experiences with scooters. I can remember a carnival cruise where we had waited 3 elevators after the theater, one stopped and someone in a scooter yelled coming thru ..and made a bee line to enter the elevator and didnt wait their turn.

Before you say they should get on first .. let me say the reason we waited is my sister is mobility challenged and cant manage stairs. Many on scooters claim first rights to elevators and think they shouldn't wait their turn, we all have experienced it on cruises. Time and time again.

Glad you arent like that. The few bad apples give the rest a bad name.

Did they apologize? If you accidentally ran into someone, would you apologize?

No, of course they didn't apologize. It's as though I was invisible. If I accidentally ran into someone, which I hope I won't do, of course I would apologize. When DH and I cruise, we are there to relax. We are most always AFT which cuts down on crowds at the elevator. If people are waiting for the elevator, I wait. I'm in no hurry. We'll get where we want to go without pushing in front of people.

There is not a way to verify vaccine status.  In Texas, the cruise lines do not have access to verify if someone is vaccinated or not.  If I wanted to get a copy of my vaccine record from the state system it would take 14 business days.  The Texas system is set up for schools and doctors to access, not private companies.  I don't know about other states.

They can check your status with one call. I needed to replace my card called the texas health dept gave them my name and birthday had my info in system immediately showing both of my vaccines . both shots 2 different counties.

I use a camera with 30x telephoto lens for a camera.

I use a watch for a watch.

I use a PC (lap top on a cruise) for bank, photo album, shopping, mail, music player, cruise planner.

I use a land line for a phone.

I do not have a single device such as a smart phone that would cause me to lose all of those features at the same time if it fails or is stolen.

Sounds EXACTLY like me until 2007 when I got my first iphone. Never looked back. Was dragged kicking and screaming into the present.

To each his own. 😀

Just got home awhile ago from the cruise. It really was so much fun overall! My mini-review: Fun, fun, fun...Carnival is back! Our state room steward was so sweet and service was really good. We were on deck 10 Lido. I was hesitant with booking this cabin because of the noise from the pool but we didn't hear a thing.  It was a very convenient location.

The Premium wi-fi service worked well throughout the cruise. I had to do a few work things (ugh!) and was able to have my videoconferences with no problems. I already mentioned it in another post but E-muster was very convenient.

JiJi Asian and Cucina were great in both food and service. The Steakhouse however needs some work with the entire experience. The wait time was very slow and the steaks were not that good. They had our appetizers mixed up with another table and I never received my glass of wine I had ordered. So hopefully they'll get it together as time goes on. Several people I spoke with in the casino had noted similar experiences. The dining room was ok--nothing great but nothing terrible. The Marketplace buffet was fine except it seemed like they played the same 3 songs on a loop. Change it up guys! After initial confusion, the menus on the phone became second nature to us and I actually prefer it now.

We're pretty much always in the casino so we didn't go to any trivia things so I can't speak to those events. But I did see them advertised! They had a Game of Thrones trivia contest which seemed new to me or maybe I just haven't paid attention. I had so much fun in the casino!! The bar service staff was excellent and the dealers did a good job of interacting with the passengers. Plus I won quite a bit of money so that makes it sweet.

Debarkation wasn't as bad as I thought it might be--we didn't have to show our passports to Customs--they just used the facial recognition camera thing and we were out of there.

Infamous scooter mishap update: The only bad thing which wasn't Carnival's fault had to do with me getting my foot run over by a scooter at the Omelette station. Well, it was bruising up even more so I ran/hobbled to the urgent care today and found out I have a broken foot! So I'm in a walking boot. I was gonna ask if I could rent a scooter! 😉

All in all, can't wait to go on my next cruise.

So glad you had a wonderful cruise.  It's too bad about the Steakhouse.  Hopefully, they will get their act together.  It's nice to hear that everything else was good.  Sorry about your broken foot!  My gosh.  That sounds very painful.

That will teach you to keep your feet away from the path of scooters! Kidding of course, sorry about the broken foot. Glad everything else seemed to work out fine.

My walking boot story--had one during recovery from breaking an ankle. Told them at the airport in Newark that it had a lot of metal, and they almost fought over who would walk me through. Told them in Amsterdam that it had a lot of metal. They said take it off!

No surprise there - nice port, but HOT, HOT, HOT!  It makes my home state feel air conditioned!

Delays aren't unusual for Galveston - at least that's been our observation.

Sounds like the Steakhouse just needs more practice after being closed for so long - hopefully this will improve, as we have always really enjoyed the CCL steakhouse.  And so sorry about your foot - that's awful! But I'm glad you still had a good time overall and can still smile about your trip.  Thank you for posting this review - we sail on the Vista again 9/4.  One of our faves!  Prayers for a quick foot recovery for you!

And thanks to whoever posted the pics of the menus.  Looks like bread will not be on the table on arrival, which is fine.  But it looks like we can now get olive oil & balsamic with the bread?  I don't remember that prior to CV.  Maybe it's just been too long, and my memory is shot!  SO glad to see the melting cake survived!  🥰

Thanks. I was concerned about carnival's sudden reliance on the  hub app technology and having to beef up the wifi so everyone could use their phones without access to their normal service provider in the ocean, and no real way to test it at scale before the first sailing.  I hope they are open to the reality that sometimes a high tech problem is most easily addressed by a low tech solution, e.g. paper menus etc.

Thanks for being on the first cruise and being patient as a lot of new procedures are stress tested. It's a lot easier to get technology wrong than to get it right. It's amazing how easy it is to screw it up: a minus sign or mistyped number etc

Just give everyone free WiFI

Carnival is checking the cards. There's also a rumor that they have nurses verifying the vaccine documents.  Most of the rumors seem to be coming from people who don't sail on Carnival

Will an Electric Verification Card work like Clear Healthpass which I setup for my upcoming Hawaii Trip? Would be cool if we could link it to our Carnival Hub so we don't have to worry about loosing the flimsy card

That would be nice.  If would also be nice if we could upload our card and also type in the information like United Airlines is able to offer.

Nice day in mahogany bay today.  They are requiring masks in the shopping area, but not on the sky ride or at the beach.

Can you walk to this sky ride, and if you have equipment, can you snorkel on the beach? Thank you

If it says bring your original card that's what I'm bringing. I read someone said she forgot hers and she and her entire party werent allowed to board. Not taking a chance, though sounds like she was trying to pull a fast one. I'm going to worry a bit until I go thru a boarding myself without a hitch.

I wonder why the other people in her party couldn't board.
