I am guessing that Carnival probably deactivated many non-essential systems on the ship that weren't in use during the prolonged cruising stoppage. Once cruising resumed, these systems were reactivated and there may have been a few bugs to workout. I work in aviation and during the early part of the pandemic when no one was flying anywhere, many of our aircraft owners elected to do the same in order to manage costs. Wi-fi usage was always the first system to be deactivated during this time. Other owners took the downtime to upgrade systems as well. There are always some kinks to work out once things are back in use - and I'm sure Carnival tested these systems, but not to the extend of having 3000+ people onboard. Hard to replicate real world usage scenarios. 

Agree, if this is the biggest speed bump they have, then consider it a home run.

If Carnival wants everyone to get on board with their IT solutions then Carnival needs to make some serious upgrades.

Not sure what is different, but the wifi on Horizon is their fastest.  Wonder if the increased hup traffic is significant?.

Man I was the last of my family to get a cell phone (and that was circa 2008).  Would only agree if we gave up the landline in return.  
 

Never looked back & I am getting grayer by the day.  You basically HAVE to have some form of cell (hopefully smart) phone at this point to communicate (text, pics, directions).  Hopefully if you can afford a cruise, you can afford a cell phone (even a Tracfone).

 

Just a point of reference on the directions.  I was in a local pharmacy the other day.  An elderly couple could not find a local attraction & I was telling the gentleman turn-by-turn instructions (all of 2 turns but about 4 miles). I did ask if they had a smartphone & the answer was “no”.  I almost had them follow me there but was on lunch from work. I worried about their safety at that point but saw they made the first turn safely.  
 

To me, Google Maps alone are worth the cost of cell phone + amortized purchase service.

Yes 🙌.  It’s been messaging me all morning.  You have trivia coming up in the Ocean Plaza, etc.   must find Paul soon.   Need a ship on a stick.
