Will we beat the storm as we head towards Nassau? From the projections from our Captain Kate along with those reflected in the below NPR article, we should be fine. However, I also added a Cruise Mapper link of our current location along with a picture of what the weather looks like in front of us from looking out our balcony. If nothing else, it should be an interesting ride. 😎 https://www.cruisemapper.com/?imo=9812705 https://www.npr.org/2021/08/12/1027029436/tropical-depression-fred-tropical-storm-gulf-coast-florida Once again Capt Kate comes through and it was smooth sailing throughout night. Quite a bit of lightening which was cool to watch, but the seas are calm this morning as we approach Nassau from the north. 😎 2

Good weather now, deteriorating later. The Captain just came on the speakers (in cabin as well) to tell us our on-board time has changed to 2:30 so we can stay ahead of “our friend Fred”.
Rare Ken the cruiser Posted August 13, 2021 Author #182 Share Posted August 13, 2021 For those that have cruised to Nassau before the pandemic, does anything in this picture look different? 😎 Also, FWIW we just passed our antigen test, so we’re good for another leg. Yay!!!

Yay!!! How are the guys coming on the sandpile, Ken? When we were docked in Nassau last week it was stormy, lots of lightning and rain, the morning snorkeling excursions came back after about 15 minutes. Those guys shoreside digging in that huge sandpile just kept working. At one point, lightning got really close, and the boss people standing around, huddled, then headed inside, but not the guys actually running the backhoes and bulldozers, nope, not afraid of a little lightning! Not sure as I can only see the ocean side from our balcony right now, but there sure is a lot of construction noise going on. But I do see a Carnival ship coming in. Hopefully they maintain a proper social distancing space between the two ships! 🤣🤣🤣

But at least the Carnial Magic is a smaller ship and didn't block our view of the ocean. 😎

Certainly a totally different style and presentation from the new Edge class ships. Edited August 13, 2021 by Spif Barwunkel

(Hopefully not a duplicate) here’s the construction from the port side you can also see the darker clouds coming in, presumably the front edge of Fred. 2

We are very relieved and happy for you, Ken. For some years, we have cruised only back-to-backs, so we could picture what you went through (some anxiety, unless you are super-cool customers). We hope that, by the time of our next "B2B" [not yet booked], the rules will have changed (with turnaround-day tests no longer being required). .
Rare Ken the cruiser Posted August 13, 2021 Author #191 Share Posted August 13, 2021 We just set sail at 2:45 pm, a little over 2 hours ahead of schedule, to try and beat "Fred" to Port Everglades (Ft Lauderdale). Our new scheduled arrival time is 6 am, originally 7 am. Wish us luck! BTW if Fred gets there first and the waves are too rough by the time we get there, they may temporarily close PE and we would have to hang out at sea until the weather got better. Obviously, we hope that doesn't happen. But in any event the next 15 hours should be interesting! 😎

cangelmd Posted August 13, 2021 #196 Share Posted August 13, 2021 Yep, looks like they just about got that pike moved from one side to the other! It was quite amusing watching all the straw bosses huddling together. When they separated and went off in different directions, we thought surely they are going to stop the equipment guys and hustle them out of the storm. Ah, nope, every man or gal for himself! Stay safe Ken, shouldn’t be too bumpy a ride.
