Here's a You Tube of the Haven food.  Will make your mouth water.

OMG! Made my mouth water! Some excellent choices.  Love lamb and prime rib. Philippine food also a favorite!

Thank you!

When my husband & I cruise, we have two very different styles of vacations depending on whether our kids are with us or not. For us, the Haven is a must for "just the two of us" cruises, and a waste of money for cruising with kids.

When it is just us, we are looking to unplug and reconnect. We are more focused on dining & drinks. We want less crowds, high quality meals, access to a great bartender, and a comfortable & luxurious space to unwind and be pampered. We often don't get off the boat at the ports - we are just there to chill. The Haven meets our needs for those kinds of trips.

When we are travelling with the kids (currently ages 12 & 10), we are MUCH more on the go. We get off the ship at every port, we do a lot of onboard activities, we don't drink NEARLY as much, and meals are more about finding choices that work for all of us instead of a higher end experience. Our kids like meeting new people, so we are out & about with the crowds being social. We just don't have enough demand for the amenities the Haven provides on those kinds of trips to make the additional cost worth it.

I am looking forward to the day when my kids age into either appreciating the slower, quieter Haven OR they are old enough to manage their own time so that we can just meet up in the evenings for some family time. But we aren't there yet. Until then, sometimes the Haven is worth it and sometimes it isn't!

toward orchard. why begrudge yourself the haven, even traveling with your kids. they are old enough to join the kids clubs. we've taken our grandson on many cruises since he was 10. (he's now 22) and he has always enjoyed the kids clubs through his teenage years with the "entourage" and made loads of friends.

you can have your cake and eat it too

I don't "begrudge" anything - I choose the kind of vacation I want to have. The Haven doesn't make sense when my kids prefer the food at the buffet or O'Sheehans over the Haven restaurant, they prefer to be around friends at the water slides over hanging out at the quiet Haven pool, and they prefer to spend their days exploring all the ports instead of hanging out on a slow ship. If I am choosing between spending time in the Haven and spending time with my kids, my kids win every time! Why would I pay Haven prices when we'll have little use for what it provides on those trips?

I am aware that lots of people like to stash their children/grandchildren in the kids' clubs so they can do their own thing on a cruise, but we are fortunate enough to enjoy spending vacation time with our kids and they with us (well... at least until they become teenagers 😃). They enjoy the kids' clubs in small doses, but our family vacations are just that - family. And, as I mentioned, we are also fortunate enough to be able to take "just us" trips to enjoy each other AND the Haven to its fullest.

To each their own... we know what works for us!

Honestly, that is just bad logic...not to mention a poor argument. Just because someone can afford the price of something does not automatically make that thing "worth" the price. And "worth" is, after all, the thread topic.

A widget that costs $2 is not guaranteed to have double the "worth" of a widget that costs $1...whether the consumer can afford it or not.

You do, fwiw, know what they say about no brainers, right?

Read the first paragraph in my post. Re-read it if you have to. Then please explain how I missed the point that the issue is whether or not a haven cabin is worth the money.

Do you even read what you're responding to, or do you just skip over the words in your haste to argue?

I get it......completely!

I'll summarize:  If you will take advantage of the amenitites of the Haven, and if your disposable income is less than the cost of the Haven...then it's worth it.  If you don't need/want those amenities....save your money.

Just because someone can afford something doesn't mean they should buy it.

Compare costs! Inside to Haven. Is it worth $5,000 more for 2 people 7 day cruise?

1. Don't need Butler.

2. Don't need to be escorted around ship.

3. Can make my own reservations.

4. Can eat in Specialty Restaurants for 7 nights.

5. Can get on/off the ship within minutes.

6. Have Premium Beverage packages.

7. Tip waiters so they know what I drink and keep me satisfied.

8. Even know my name because I treat them with respect.

9. Don't need choice of 3 pillows.

10. Cabin left clean and always cleaned be cabin attendant.

11. Don't use pool, only Observation Deck.

12. Have access to snacks around the ship at all times,  oh, except Haven. LOL

13. GETTING LATE. ADD MORE TOMORROW.

Getting closer...

While those things may be true and relevant to YOU, that does not mean that they are true and relevant to others. Those factors only justify the "worth" decision to YOU. Hence, they are only valid to your personal and unique decision process.

We cannot determine "worth" when it comes to others...only for ourselves.

Fully agree! I just gave my opinion of why I would not pay $5,000 more for a 7 day cruise to get a bigger cabin.

I did not say or try to imply that my opinion is trying to be forced on YOU or anyone else.

You and I have our opinions. Let's respect each other's.

It's the reason we post on this forum. If we all agreed, the Haven could not accommodate us all. The rest of the ship would be empty. Then reading each post would be boring.

(Forgive my spelling and grammar.  Focus on my message if interested.)

42 years ago, my lovely bride and I went on our first cruise.  It was on the Norwegian SS Norway. I did not tell my wife we were cruising because she would have said "NO".  You know the normal excuses like, "We don't have enough money.", or "I have to lose weight", or "I don't have enough clothes."  On the Tuesday before the cruise, I told her and she was very upset with me.  She did not talk to me until she was in the bus and finally saw "The Largest Cruise Ship" at the time.

We sleep in a inside stateroom with bunk beds.  Perfect for a Honeymoon.  We thought this cruise was the most luxurious cruise in the world and the best vacation we have ever had.  That was because we had never gone on a cruise or been on a vacation in our lives until then.  Sure we drove hours to see relatives for events.  We used to call that a vacation.  Not the same as the SS Norway.

  1. We ate in the later dining time, 07:30 PM.  No flexible timing back then. We had a relationship with our servers because was had them every night.  We waved at them when they did the ridiculous Baked Alaska march on the formal night.
  2. We sat at a dining table with 8 other strangers.  At the end of the week they were our best friends.
  3. We could only have one or two drinks a night because we had no money.  After all, our stateroom cost $600.00 (That was the total for both of us).
  4. We went on one excursion, the party boat.  This boat would go out with all you could drink rum punch.  We did it because it was the cheapest excursion at the time.
  5. We got off the ship at every port and just walked.  It did not cost to walk.
  6. We sat in lounge chairs way back from the pool because 42 years ago there were "chair hogs".
  7. The shows were fun and great. We never complained.  We saw the "Four Tops", "The Fifth Dimension".  and other older bands of the day. We ever say, "Red Buttons" a very old comedian.

To us at the time and the five more times we cruised the Norway, now with our very young children.  We thought it was the "Haven" on steroids but we did not know what the "Haven" was because it did not exist yet.

As time went on, my wife and I started to do better financially in life.  We got a stateroom with a window, then very small balcony,  this was followed by a mini-suite, a suite and then a very large suite.  We attempted to find a way simply to improve our cruising experience.

Our taste changed and we want some additional luxuries and amenities. We wanted better service, food and less crowding.  We wanted to have a relationship with our servers again because most cruise did not have a seating anymore.  We wanted to get a drink by the pool without having to feel like we were on a line at Disney world for Magic Mountain. We wanted a piece of Prime Rib or Roast Beef that not only looked great but did not taste like rubber.  We wanted to sit closer to the pool on a sea day and not have to ask a person on a empty row who was saving the entire row for their family (that never showed up) if we could sit in that row for a show.

We still loved all a cruise had to offer.  We were not millionaires or rich in anyway other they two folks that worked hard, raised their kids and tried to save some money here and their. We just wanted more from that one week a year we took a vacation.  Not to much to ask for one week a year to feel like a "Rock Star".  It was a dream we knew but we would try.

Then we found late in our lives (late means in our late 50's) the Haven on NCL.  The Haven scratched the itch we were looking for.  We could have all those amenities that we were hoping for and access to the huge ship or so many other activities.  The first Haven like many was a very good value.  It was expensive but not to crazy.  So, I said lets take a chance.  We liked it and it was what we were looking for.  Not for everyone, just for us.

Our next Haven Trip will be in November 2021 on the NCL Joy.  It should have happened almost two years ago for my wife and my 40th wedding anniversary.  Covid-19 made that an impossibility.  We were taking my entire family with my three adult children.  It would be their first time in the Haven. So we leveraged all the benefits or refunds, bonuses, money off and booking well in advance.  By accident on purpose, I was able to book the (H2) Deluxe Owners Suite with Large Balcony.  Only two on the ship, 1500 sf. Two bedroom and 2.5 bathroom.

We never had a wedding, we had a judger and sandwiches.  We raised our children whom turned out ok with no college loans.  We pay our bills and to rack up credit card debt.  We just figured, 40 years was worth the major splurge.  Just our story.

Now we are debating the finer points of the Haven experience.  "Is it worth it?"  Every single person attempts so say it is relative to the wants, needs and motives of the person considering it.  Many have never stayed in the Haven and want to judge it.  Many have stayed and promote it.  Many want to stay and looking for a reasonable upgrade opportunities.  Some would not stay in the Haven for any reason.  We want everyone to under stand our reasons so justify our decision.

I personally have my reasons.  I don't care if anyone agrees or disagrees.  If you are on my cruise and you are in a inside cabin with no windows; I highly recommend it.  I have been there and done that.  If you are in any other stateroom or suite, you will have a great time.  Say hello to me on the waterslide and the go cart track.  If you are in the Haven, I am sure you have your reasons as I do.  Enjoy it however never forget where we have all come from.  Vacationing and cruising is a gift of memories.  Make the most of it.

Cruise well everyone.

When my DW read this, this morning she thought I wrote this. We were married by a JOP. No big wedding, only family. Your first cruise and ours too, was on the SS Norway. Ours was back in Nov 1986. We remember the room, the safe deposit boxes in the Guest Relations area. Checkers, the ship stores selling furs, ladies hats. Those who have never experienced those days will never realize how different it was. Regardless of the cabin category, you felt like a King and Queen. Round tables for 8. The MDR in the back going down the stairs was like entering a Grand Hotel Dining Room. The Captain and some of the staff had a table in the Center and you would watch him enter and eat. We celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary with our two Daughters on the SS Norway.

Enough of the ole times. We know, we experienced them, and we will never forget them.

Stay Safe!

You need to relax. Methinks you're the one who likes to look for arguments. I'm not sure why you feel the need to be so abrasive to everyone. A quick look through your posting history tells me you need to chill out. You might enjoy confrontation but most other members don't like it.

I made several "cruises" when I was a child but back then passenger ships were for transportation, not vacation.  Still, it was a lot of fun.  The only vacation cruise we took was aboard Queen of Bermuda to visit an uncle there.  Then I got my fill of "cruises" in the Navy and never needed to see another ship in my life.  But a dear friend of ours was dying of breast cancer and her sisters told us that they were taking her on a Baltic Cruise because it was something she'd always wanted to do. They asked us to join them.  Unfortunately, our friend died before the trip, but we decided to go to honor her. We had a terrific time.  This was certainly way better than spending six months in the Indian Ocean never seeing land.  I was hooked.  I've already mentioned in other posts how on each subsequent cruise we tried a different category cabin, mainly because our great travel agent keep finding deals for us.  Eventually we tried a Haven cruise on a Jewel-class ship about thirteen years ago and loved it.  But as all the discussions have made abundantly clear, it's a personal choice.  To us it's worth it.  Our kids don't need no stinkin' inheritance.

Is suggesting that someone needs "to chill out" a way of confronting someone? :classic_rolleyes:

An argument (pun intended) could be made that you are confronting SeaShark with your post.

Likewise with your post 😄

Fwiw, I was just making an observation, perhaps even trying to enlighten SeaShark. He might not realise that he makes so many confrontational comments. I suspect he probably does though in all honestly.

My post history is there for everyone to see. Confrontational, I am not 👍

You'll have to forgive SeaShark. He has trouble tolerating that which Ron White can't fix.

But why didn't you just admit that I was actually aware of the thread topic when I pointed out where I had, in fact, stated it plainly instead of doubling down and ignoring your erroneous accusation?

But looking at it in another way, if SeaShark or another forum member saw your post and suggested that you "chill out", would you change the way that you post? Probably not....and neither will SeaShark nor anyone else (myself included).

If people have different opinions, so be it. As long as everyone is within the forum rules, there's no problem with how people express their opinion.

For some, the Haven is worth the money.

For others, the Haven is not worth the money.

Neither side is wrong in their opinion.

Both sides can be wrong in their facts ("...the Haven can't be done for less than $5K per person...") but the opinion given to an opinion question isn't wrong.

Cruise well everyone.

Another 64 year old here who could have written your post down to the wedding, except we didn’t discover cruising until we were in our 40’s. Before then vacations consisted of camping or Disney world trips on the cheap.

We too are at a point in life after driving old cars and living well below our means we can splurge when we wish.

we don’t always feel the need to but when we do we have no problem with spending the money. Our first Haven cruise was to celebrate our 40th anniversary. We celebrated our 45th camping.

Just to add, very jealous you got to see the 5th Dimensions, the 4 Tops and Red Buttons❤️

Topics like this are open invitations to trolls and people that like to argue. You're not going to be able to avoid it. It's just a fact of internet life.

My opinion is that this thread is directed to people that have been in Haven and those that are considering it. If it's of no interest to you or you just couldn't fathom spending an extra $5K over an inside cabin (why is it always an inside that it gets compared to), you really have no good reason to click on this thread to read it, let alone argue points.

If you're looking for the answer to "Is Haven worth the money?", you really only need to ask people that have cruised in it before. The overwhelming answer is yes. I think there was one exception in this thread. If you're looking for that answer, most people will tell you not only yes, but they'll have a hard time going back to anything else. I've always been in outside and balcony cabins. We've booked an Aft Penthouse on the Bliss for January, just the two of us, and a 2 bed aqua-theater on RCL in June for a family cruise. I've done the research on whether these upgrades are worth the money, and for me they are. You might very well be in the same financial situation as I, and have done the same exact research, but came up with a different conclusion. That's fine. It's not worth it to you. That's your personal opinion and it should not be considered in someone else's decision. Neither should my opinion, because I've never actually cruised in Haven. I might come back from the cruise and decide it wasn't worth it. Though I doubt it.

Not to create or argue. The title of the thread was 'Is Haven worth the money?' Are we to accept only a 'Yes' answer? Is it really directed to the people who have been in Haven? Why cannot others express their opinion on why they consider it a 'No.'

What would happen if the thread was "Why I would never cruise on Line?' 'Why should I cruise on Line?'

Why is it when someone has an opposing view point is it wrong? There are two sides to every story.

Just think of many threads on these forums. Should I wear a sports coat? Should I buy the Bev Pkg?

People are looking for reasons for and against or why yes or why no.

You started off with 'My opinion.' So, others are expressing their opinion. That is what makes us a strong nation. We have opinions, we may voice our opinions, peacefully!

Thanks for your opinion! Stay Safe!!

Just to add, very jealous you got to see the 5th Dimensions, the 4 Tops and Red Buttons❤️

Those were the days for sure.  However, the current Broadway Style shows with shows like Kinky Boots are pretty darn good.  NCL seems to be my favorite entertainment ships.  But yes, those were the days.

I agree, I’ve only been on 3 different cruise lines, but NCL is my favorite for entertainment. Jersey Boys, Choir of Man, Kinky Boots were great!
