[Quartzsite Cruiser]

Good morning from central Texas.  The plan today is to head into Waco and finally drop off two year's worth of books at the book exchange, and maybe pick up a few.  There will also be a couple of hopefully quick stops at a couple of stores.

 

Bald and Free Day can be celebrated by DH.  He still has hair around the side of his head, but keeps it trimmed very close, a look I like.  The only school close enough to walk to was my elementary school, but since I had to cross a very busy street, my parents always dropped me off.  The other schools were too far to walk, and only rural students road the bus.  Forgiveness and happiness go hand in hand.

 

Love the George Carlin quote, especially since my father and DH both worked for an electric utility company.  George Carlin was a very funny person.

 

I think we'll pass on the drink, wine and meal of the day.

 

@Tbay  Sorry your DH is having back and leg problems.  Sending good thoughts the doctors can find an answer.

@smitty34877  Terry, so sorry about you DS and your DGD.  Hope DS has a very mild case, and that DGD heals quickly.  Thanks for sharing the picture.

@kazu  Again your memes hit home.  Trying to give one of our cats a pill resembled the meme.

 

The Prinsendam took us to Brest in 2011 and 2017.  The first time was on a Sunday, and almost everything was closed.  After looking at the town center until the shuttle returned, we stopped at the waterfront and then took the shuttle to an old fort that is now a maritime muweum.  In 2017, once in town, we road the shuttle to both ends, and took the godola across the Penfeld River and back.

Feeling for your DGD. I broke my right wrist when I was around her age, but at least I was able to learn to use my left hand for some things. I will be praying for those bones to knit quickly!

My sweet husband has hair but prefers a very shaved head. It's so important to me to forgive someone because I prefer to be a happy person, and you can't be happy when anger is sitting on your heart.

 

We have been to Brest, but we had a car the times we went. As @kazu states Brittany is a beautiful area and very unique. We got stuck in a very bad downpour, ducked into a seafood restaurant and had the best meal of fruits de mer and a bottle of champagne. 

 

I haven't a clue what to make for dinner. Debbie's recipes sound great but just had chicken. I will file those away though, they all look good.

Good morning, thanks for the Daily!  DH isn't bald, but his hair certainly has thinned over the past 10 years.  I walked to school every day from Grades 1 through 12, uphill both ways, and my brother and I shared a boot.  Well I might have exaggerated there just a bit.  LOL  When you forgive someone, your happiness automatically increases - it's good for the soul and blood pressure.

 

@smitty34877 Oh my gosh, your poor Grands!!!  I hope your DGS has only a mild case, and wish your DGD patience as her bones heal.  A friend of ours (a firefighter) broke both of his after a fall from a roof during a fire, and his wife had to do everything for him . . . e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g.   He said he certainly learned humility through that experience.

@TbayI'm sorry to hear about your DH's issues; a friend of ours is also a polio survivor and has recently been diagnosed with post polio syndrome.  He's doing lots of physical therapy by swimming 5 times a week and is doing well.  Might get the doctors to check that one out if your DH had polio as a child.  

 

We're up and at 'em early today, getting the car packed and making sure the timers are all set for the light around the house.  Apparently I set one of them incorrectly, as DH said the lights came on around 5AM.  Oops.  We're off to Calgary in about an hour and so looking forward to getting to see our dear family once more.  When I woke up this morning, I received a text from our DS which read:  "I'm supposed to remind you that you're coming here today."  Apparently our older DGS (age 6) is almost more excited about our visit than we are. 

 

I like today's menu suggestion and will tuck it away for a cool fall or winter's day; for us, tonight's dinner will all depend on what the family has planned.  And wine.   With that in mind, I'll likely not be here much for the next week, as we will be busy with family fun times.  I might get to do some reading late at night to check up on all of you, but that's about it, so play nice!

 

Prayers for everyone who needs them and even for those who don't think they do.  Raising the glasses together to celebrate all on the happy list.  Stay safe, wear your masks, wash your hands, be well, and hydrate!

It's a dessert delicacy in Brest and beyond,  this one was a combination caramel and chocolate, but they have other flavors like pistachio, raspberry etc.

The M&G for those boarding yesterday was this afternoon. It was great to meet Colin, Ann, and Tony. Rich Felding is our next door neighbor on the ship, and we’ve enjoyed our chats with him.

@cat shepard Hope the Pilates goes well today. You are reminding me my reformer needs some attention. Since we took out the carpet and put tile in the family room I seldom sit on the floor, and have lost a lot of flexibility.

 

@dfish Today’s dinner looks great. We’re having the chicken and mushroom recipe you posted a few days back tonight. I’ll save this one.

 

@Cruising-along Where is this? I want to go. (Makes me think of a monastery on a hill that @kazu “took” us to some years back.

Back in the early 1950's, my two sisters and I walked 3 1/2 miles to a one-room school. In 1955 the County opened a grade 1-9 school in a nearby town, but we still had to walk a mile to catch the bus. The bus ride to town took an hour - when the gravel roads were good. My DW had to walk 4 miles to catch a bus - again regardless the weather!!

Today's drink sounds good to me - it is similar to my Planter's Punch recipe but with grapefruit juice added. I will have to go shopping today!

 

I walked to school quite a bit growing up in Pittsburgh. Unfortunately, we lived at the top of a pretty substantial hill! 

 

For a few years, I rode the streetcar to Elementary School. It could have even been this car!

@rafinmd,yes my  son is the father of the twins who brought the Covid to the family first.DdIL became positive next and DS was sick by Monday.Both  grandchildren are much improved, the parents still symptomatic.They tell me their cases are mild.

Thanks for asking.It is certainly  a difficult  time for my New Hampshire  family.

Oh Terry, I’m so sorry your family is having such a tough time right now! And it’s so hard to live far away. Prayers that your DS and DGD have uneventful recovery.

Good morning, all! Will CC let me post today? Yesterday the gremlins blocked me. Specifically, they blocked me from commenting, posting, or liking on the Daily. Strange!

DH is just beginning to explore baldness but hasn’t committed to it yet. I walked to school until we moved to Salt Spring Island in Grade 11. My new school was 12 miles away, so riding the bus became the new normal. Forgiveness and happiness are essential to our health, and closely linked. Who was it that said: ‘To hold onto anger is like drinking poison and hoping the other person will die.’

Chicken stew sounds good, but we’ve had chicken two days in a row so it will have to wait. We’ve never been to France, so all pictures are greatly appreciated.

The weather is cooling, so I’m hoping to experiment with indigo leaves on silk today before I lose the plants to frost.
