Sports TV on Princess Ships

Rather than comment about the restaurants, excursions, cabins, etc...I am writing with a singular focus on Sports viewing aboard the ship. My complaint is the limited live television sporting events that are available on your cruises. The VIP Casino Bar on the Majestic was a ghost town cuz all they ever showed was European soccer. The bartenders there said it's always like that and the only time people enter the bar is to walk through it. If you guys are implementing sports book betting, it would be great to offer access to viewing events that are "relevant" to the country/region that you are servicing. I found a website that said that Princess offers NFL games fleetwide EXCEPT Diamond Princess, Sapphire Princess, Ruby Princess, Golden Princess, Majestic Princess, Pacific Princess, Sea Princess and Sun Princess. Not sure why the cut-out for those ships or if the information on the website is accurate. Pay the licensing fees so your customers can actually enjoy a game that they bet on. It's 2021...just too much technology available not to make this happen. Really surprised it isn't already a feature.

Since not all of those ships are still in the Princess fleet, the web page you found is definitely obsolete.

What is the $$ advantage of sports betting to the ship? If you bet on line don't believe the ship would get a cut, and I wouldn't think the cruise line could support sports betting. I think many sports leagues do have streaming available. In Alaska the internet is slow so I would not expect streaming to work too well their, but in lower latitudes it should work.

In the past certain NFL, soccer, NCAA and some other sports were shown on TV. I would not expect that to change very much.

That is old info and the list is likely because those ships were in Asia or Europe, etc.  NFL is being shown on ships now cruising out of USA ports.  May not be as many choices and not necessary on MUTS all day Sunday.  I would expect they will be showing playoffs come January when Caribbean 2022 season is in full swing.

We cruised many times during NFL playoffs and super bowl. They were shown.

While a ship or two may no longer be on the list, the underlying point is current and accurate. I just sailed on the Majestic Princess on an Alaskan cruise with no foreign ports. This is an issue that even my Princess cruise planner acknowledged and said routinely gets a lot of complaints. Cherry-picking a ship here or a ship there, or that play-off games are more likely to be shown, misses the point entirely. If games are shown on some ships, but not others, the question is, "Why?" Is it geographical, satellite range, licensing fees?? If there is a logistical explanation, fine, but this information should be readily available to a customer when booking their cruise and not a crap-shoot after you board.

Were there no NFL or college football games on MUTS or on the cabin TV on the Majestic?

There are some NFL games being currently shown on Majestic on MUTS, in Double Down Bar and on stateroom TV. There were 2 on Sunday (one each in morning & afternoon) plus SNF & MNF games. On Saturday night a CFB game was shown in a bar (Double Down) but it wasn’t a marque game matchup (Nevada vs Fresno State).

I’ll know tomorrow if the World Series will be shown onboard. The NFL games were listed in the Patter however tomorrow’s WS game is not listed so it apparently is not being shown. The TV shows a live channel for NFL games but none for MLB & on Saturday don’t think the NLCS final game between LAD & ATL was shown.

That was the standard practice pre-COVID so that's good. Thanks

No World Series broadcast because Princess won’t pay the licensing fee. Instead they said to get their unlimited MedallionNet package to watch it on our mobile devices. 🥴

The same plan Princess has said receives a 50% refundable credit but are not showing it’s refundable on shipboard folios.

There were NO games on MUTS or in your stateroom during the Alaska cruise on the Majestic. MUTS was basically rained out most of the cruise anyway.  The wifi aboard many cruise ships are very hit & miss and often not strong enough to stream sporting events. In my opinion, this shouldn't even be a topic because it should be a given. The bars, especially the sports bars and casinos would be much busier and livelier if they showed more live major sporting events.
