Pictures taken between Monday, October 25 and Sunday, October 31.

Sunday the 31st might be a good time to take some themed pictures!

Rules: See above

That's it. This isn't a contest.

All photos taken this week are welcome (not just cruising).

Prizes will not be awarded. Discovering the joy of photography is the prize.

The idea is to get folks out using their cameras for more than vacations and toddler birthdays.

Post one. Post many. Up to you.

Have fun with your camera and share your fun with others!

The week ended on the last day in October and as usual, family fun ensued. Last year’s usual gathering of family for pizza and trick-or-treating was pretty reserved due to all the restrictions but things seemed pretty much back to normal this year. Hundreds of people crowded the streets in our daughter’s neighborhood marveling at the decorations and collecting enough calories to ruin every diet in a medium-sized city. Any week including Halloween ends up with a picture related to the family favorite event as Picture of the Week. This year was no different but was problematic as I ended up with several shots that would qualify, including several from the new phone. This one, in bad light at ISO12800 took the cake. Beauty and the Beast, indeed!

Took a few days to get around to loading photos from the weekend.  I got a small window of a few hours just before dusk on Saturday to run out to the local wetlands - had to help get my stepfather's SUV detailed thoroughly to prepare to sell to Carvana, which took up most of the late morning and early afternoon...then on Sunday I helped him with the sale to Carvana, had a few hours again to run out to the wetlands, then had to get back in time for trick-or-treaters...no time over the weekend for downloading and sorting shots from the two days!

But there were some nice wildlife encounters and some nice light on both days, making those brief visits worthwhile.  Here are some of my weekend findings...

A palm warbler, nicely backlit:

An ibis coming in to land around sunset:

The sun had dropped below the trees and light was fading, so I headed back to my car and found this northern mockingbird sitting on a tree right in front of my car, on parking lot watch...nice that he chose to watch over my car:

The giant, and loud, pileated woodpecker flew in to this tree and cackled his silly laugh:

A male common yellowthroat peeking out of the reeds and showing that lovely masked face:

A female painted bunting was searching a tree for bugs, less than 10 feet from me, and she didn't seem to mind my presence at all:

This Florida softshell turtle was taking a break and resting on a partially submerged log:

A young raccoon was rummaging through the downed leaves looking for fruits or seeds, pausing to look my way for a beat:

This green heron was looking straight up - he was actually tracking a dragonfly in flight, hoping to snag it out of the air if it came close enough:

Beautiful late afternoon golden light for this female blue-winged teal, posing proudly:
