Bermuda assesses a departure tax of $25 per 24 period on each passenger. https://www.gov.bm/passenger-departure-tax
As pax were only in Bermuda for one 24 hour period not three 24 hour periods, it seems that they were overcharged by $50.

As those taxes are not individual line items in the quoted cruise fare and absent any contractual provision requiring the cruise line to make a cash refund the issue is purely one of customer service and goodwill. Apparently NCL decided OBC is sufficient.

As I said, there are cruise lines that never refund a penny when a port is missed and others that are inconsistent.

I'll wager there are a substantial number of passengers who are happier that they got the OBC rather than a cash credit. Of course they're not going to come on here and say how wonderful it was for NCL to give them that much OBC because it paid for their onboard expenditures. We're only going to hear from those who couldn't make use of the entire credit.

I used a good chunk of the OBC to purchase clothing for the homeless. I had no use for most of the credit. Now others can benefit.

This was not the vacation I imagined. I adapted, had fun and enjoyed myself.

I appreciate the gesture by NCL. They cannot control the weather. I had no expectations for any type of credit, etc from them.

My opinion may be the minority. I don't care.

🌟 for your positive attitude and for buying clothes for the homeless with your OBC! I wish you a smooth next cruise!

It is a tight, precision approach through the reefs to get to the dock. And the Breakaway is a giant sail. If she gets pushed a bit off course, she could be making the news like the Dawn that ran around on the reef in 2015 after a temporary malfunction.

I was on that cruise.  It was a bit of an Adventure.

Doesn't travel insurance plans cover missed ports?

Some do, some don't.

I think that depends upon what is meant by whether travel insurance "covers missed ports".

There are (or used to be) some policies that would pay IF any ports were missed.  Sort of a consolation prize, in my mind.  You miss the port, but get some money instead (which may not be at all comparable, of course).

OR... there is travel insurance that will pay for non-refundable travel costs that were missed or "wasted" somehow, or some extra expenses...

You get sick, and the entire vacation is over before it starts.

Your flight is cancelled and you need to spend the night at a hotel (years past, the airlines picked this up; it's not always the case now).

Your flight is late, and you miss the last ferry to your hotel, which you already paid for.

Or... your ship misses a port, and you miss that non-refundable excursion.

Etc.

Which type of "missed port" coverage is the above question about?

I'm not the person who posed the question, but in the context of this thread (I'm the OP), it referred to the two days (of three scheduled) that we were unable to dock in Bermuda because of the weather.  That is, two days of "missed ports."   Travel Guard Preferred, for example, has a small benefit (what you called a "consolation prize") when a cruise ship "does not stop at a scheduled port of call" because of "Inclement Weather."

The guy at guest services explained no casino ,cruise next or grats. That's when I started thinking of every little possible charge I could and asked. He called the boss when he needed the arcade answer.  I just was happy he put my gfs stuff on my account to burn mine up. So we got the full value and made me a bit happier.

catching up on this thread, I would have been ordering some expensive shots of LOUIS XIII Cognac LOL

Ironically, AIG's Travel Guard Preferred is offered in all states except... New York 😞. I can't find any New York version of their policy fine print that includes the "travel inconvenience" benefit.

From Travel Guard:

"The Deluxe, Preferred and Essential plans are available in all states and the District of Columbia, except NY."
