Rare CruiserKris34 Posted December 24, 2021 #1 Share Posted December 24, 2021 So, I've been on 5 Royal Caribbean cruises, but I'm considering Celebrity in hopes of less unvaccinated kids & issues with Covid. Looking at a 2/26 sailing. I love the "no worry" I feel with RC (transfers from airport, all info on the app, booking air & excursions on website, etc.). We are empty nesters and just want to relax. We don't need the rock climbing wall, water slides, etc. Is Celebrity similar with the ease of booking, etc? Thanks! Kris
TeeRick Posted December 24, 2021 #2 Share Posted December 24, 2021 Kris you are like many of us now cruising Celebrity that started with Royal C and enjoyed those cruises with our kids. But now retired, the switch to Celebrity means a more tranquil environment on the ship and less amusement park features. There are a lot of threads on this difference and you can do a bit of searching. I'm sure others here might respond if you have specific questions that would be most helpful. Ease of booking is the same- I think they use the same on shore staff for bookings.
Rare DCPIV Posted December 24, 2021 #3 Share Posted December 24, 2021 The online booking and cruise planner for Celebrity is quite similar to RC's.
MightyMike Posted December 24, 2021 #4 Share Posted December 24, 2021 I would go a step further and say that Cruise Planners are nearly identical for both cruise lines--same user interface, same policies, and often, the same excursions. In general, I think you will find that everything Royal Caribbean does, Celebrity does a little bit better. Food is a little better. Service is a little better. The only thing you will lose is activities and entertainment. Don't expect the same big production shows on Celebrity.

However, expect better smaller acts in the lounges (something I prefer over the production shows in the first place).

When you log in click on your name in the upper right hand corner. A dropdown menu will appear with your Captains Club number and different options to click on. Click on "My Tier and Points" to view You Captains Club tier level and cruise points. If you don't see any of that call the Captains Club (1-800-760-0654) and give them your RC C&A number(s). Only tier levels are reciprocal up to elite on Celebrity. Cruise points aren't. Edited December 24, 2021 by davekathy
CHEZMARYLOU Posted December 24, 2021 #7 Share Posted December 24, 2021 Depending on the ship you are looking at, your cruise might not be available in the app. It does not support all ships, unless this has changed recently. The CVP at Celebrity cannot book RC cruises so if you have a vacation planner at RC you cannot use her/him to book Celebirty. You can book air, excursions, specialty dining, spa, etc. on the web site.

Kris We are diamond plus on rccl but celebrity is now our favorite line , way less children. Ideal line to relax, if it’s in your budget try booking a suite , suite perks are so much better than rccl, excellent suite dining room and lounge. Love the new edge class but nothing wrong with the other ships. Booking. Air and excursion same as rccl. Rccl does have better entertainment. Thank you!

I'd call the Captains Club and ask.

If you book a suite you normally get 300 each OBC , drink package, tips etc. I also love to gamble celebrity has a great deal if you buy 50 in chips or slot credit you get 55 credit, I spent my entire 600 on chips so I got 660 in chips.very handy that this allows you to carry less cash.
4774Papa Posted December 25, 2021 #13 Share Posted December 25, 2021 We have done 11 cruises on Celebrity, 2 on Royal C. and 7 on NCL. Celebrity is our favorite with Royal being second. Still, we compare prices and Celebrity's jumped way up compared to Royal in the past couple of years, but recently Celebrity has cut prices and finally allowed booking without the perks like drink packages that we don't want. Celebrity's MDR dining is a cut about other lines. Also, they still have good entertainment (not as good as Royal or NCL, but still good). The ship designs are the best with Celebrity. Like you, we don't need the water slides and rock climbing.
Rare Terre Posted December 29, 2021 #14 Share Posted December 29, 2021 We love Celebrity and are Diamond with RCCL. We switched a few years ago and are Elite with X. I think the shows are at the very least equal unless you are on one of RCCL'S bigger ships like the Oasis. Come back and let us know what you think. davekathy Posted December 29, 2021 #15 Share Posted December 29, 2021 We like the similarities and differences between Celebrity and RC. We have never cruised on RCs huge ships (Oasis or Quantum class). Freedom class, Voyager class and Radiance class.

woneill63 Posted December 30, 2021 #18 Share Posted December 30, 2021 We are heading in the exact same direction, moving from Royal to Celebrity as we get on in years. As we have a 15 year old son, two out of three of our cruises are on Royal, we all really enjoy the large ships and entertainment, it just feels like home. The prices are higher on Celebrity, but the food and service are also at a higher level, it is becoming a better fit for us. By the time our son leaves the nest, I can see us cruising sailing exclusively on Celebrity.
