emeraldcity Posted December 29, 2021 #5 Share Posted December 29, 2021 I'm probably in the minority position and will get slammed for saying this move makes a lot of sense. I don't see it as a means to manipulate numbers. I see it as a means to put people who should be quarantining in separate rooms onto a ship that can provide that. 28
zpdw484 Posted December 29, 2021 #6 Share Posted December 29, 2021 Onboard explorer now and witnessed this exact thing happen on an unscheduled stop in at Maarten yesterday morning. Watched two tender boats being loaded with luggage wrapped in plastic wrap and crew members covered in ppe from head to toe including tyvek booties over there shoes... Although I understand why royal is doing this, I Feel so bad for the crew members. Being treated like they have the plague or something.. Here onboard the explorer they are truly being worked to the bone... We seen a pool bar waiter working the X-ray machine at Port today.. they are truly anywhere and everywhere.. so obviously understaffed

RoyalC Posted December 29, 2021 #8 Share Posted December 29, 2021 By the time passengers test positive from infection (infection-symptoms-positive antigen test after a few days of symptoms) they will be at home and never counted.
Rare natefish95 Posted December 29, 2021 #9 Share Posted December 29, 2021 I'm on Jewel right now and you can definitely tell they are short staffed in many areas. The production show "Tango: Buenos Aires" was cancelled due to "technical issues" , but we know what that means... I've heard it's a lot of the casino staff, waiters, and bartenders are in quarantine now.

Rare whitshel Posted December 29, 2021 #11 Share Posted December 29, 2021 On Odyssey right now. The captain announced the we will be skipping St Thomas and San Juan due to 53 crew members testing positive and we will be transferring them also to Rhapsody. Not sure if we'll do this tomorrow (at sea) or on Thursday at our new port of call, Puerta Plata (replacement for San Juan) they took the 69 sick crew members from the previous cruise and put them on the Vision of the Seas while we were in Coco Cay yesterday. 2
Rare vacationlover_mn Posted December 29, 2021 #12 Share Posted December 29, 2021 For the crew that share a room (which I think are most of them?), I wonder if both roommates are automatically quarantined to Rhapsody, or just if they test positive? I don’t really care… just curious 🙂

Sunshine3601 Posted December 29, 2021 #14 Share Posted December 29, 2021 As said above this was their plan /agreement with the CSO. It will also help ships that are having problems dock at various islands due to high cases among the crew. Hopefully vision and rhapsody have healthy crew they can swap out to help out on the ships that have crew shortages.

Cruisin4beaches Posted December 29, 2021 #17 Share Posted December 29, 2021 On Jewel OTS now. A sea day Sky bar and Solarium bar closed. Not enough bar tenders to cover bars. Only 3 bartenders at pool bar. I lost 3 of my favorite bartenders ( 1 Sunday,1 Monday,1 Tuesday). Lost my waiter and his assistant Sunday night. I tested positive this morning. Now waiting in my deck 11 balcony to be moved closer to the medical center. We disembark tomorrow in Miami. I don't know what happens to me next. 3
Blizzard54 Posted December 29, 2021 #18 Share Posted December 29, 2021 As was mentioned, having ships on standby to be used for quarantine was part of the original CSO. It makes sense. With new crew members needing to quarantine to 14 days after joining a ship, they only have so many crew cabins available. On all of the recent sailing we have been on they have mentioned that they have a full crew. They do not mention how many of them are in quarantine and not available to work. Long shot, but do you happen to know if Fe was one of the bartenders? She's our favorite bartender on any Royal ship, and is currently on Jewel

xina04 Posted December 29, 2021 #25 Share Posted December 29, 2021 I'm wondering how long it will take for the crew who have tested positive to be allowed back. Is the quarantine determined by a specific length of time or do they require a negative covid test. If they are required to test negative couldn't that be up to 3 weeks if it stays in your system? I'm assuming it is for a specific number of days with no symptoms? Just curious as I hear more and more crew members testing positive and ships becoming more and more short-staffed.
