Good afternoon. Thanks for the Daily.

I had to laugh at the first day listed. I'm not much of a tea drinker, preferring coffee. A salute to pharmacists, especially these days when they have to give injections in addition to all the medication work.

Interesting and true quote.

The meal sounds ok, although I'm not a pesto fan. I'll pass on the drink and wine.

I have been to Rome, but not on a ship; never was in Cittavecchia.

We've warmed up a bit, and are above freezing for a change. Possible heavy snow on the weekend.

@kazu Prayers for Jose and you.

@smitty34877 Continued prayers for Tana.

@msmayor What a nice surprise for your DD to be there in person for her shower.

@mamaofami Hmmm, I hope things work out. It sounds like Sam is doing more, which is good.

@marshhawk Good news on getting hours back again!

@JAM37 I'm glad you're feeling better.

@Navybikermom Welcome to the Daily!

@Mtn2Sea Good luck with your procedure today.

@StLouisCruisers Prayers for a good outcome for DD's surgery today.

Prayers for the Care List and Cheers for the Celebration List.

Stay safe everyone.

BTW, Rich, @richwmn, NavArch has just posted on another thread (the Zuiderdam Quarantine thread) -

"I just learned that Nieuw Amsterdam is the new hospital/quarantine ship at PEV ... Noordam is on her way to drydock after all transfers to NAdam are completed."

I have a cruise on the NA scheduled for March. Hopefully she will be available by then!

Hours after these photos were taken, the seas looked a lot rougher.  There was a group of guests at the hotel getting on the the Celebrity Constellation the following morning, including us!  We started hearing discussions going on about an email they had received saying the Celebrity ship was not going to be able to get into the Civitavecchia port, so it would stay in Naples and we would board the ship there the following day instead of Civi.  What?  How are we getting there?  The cruise line was sending busses to Civitavecchia and Rome's airport to pick up people and get them to the ship.  We had apparently been receiving emails every 30 minutes for a couple of hours, which were in my spam folder.  This was shortly after we'd gotten our first IPhone and I didn't know much about it, therefore I hadn't looked in my spam emails.  Celebrity was asking us to please reply back that we had gotten this message.  Goodness, there were a lot of nervous guests wondering how this would all turn out, but somehow it did.  Next morning, the hotel shuttle dropped guests at the dock where the ship was supposed to be.  Names were checked off, luggage loaded onto busses and guests were driven 3 hours south to Naples and we boarded the ship.  We had just been there on Prinsendam on Nov. 3 and here we were back boarding the Constellation on Nov. 5!

Ah, yes, the spam folder.  22 months ago I was unceremoniously dumped off Queen Mary 2 in Perth with a promise that they would put me up in a hotel and get me a flight back home.  I was in the hotel about  3 days with no word and finally on the 4th morning found a flight in my spam folder (It had only been sent a couple hours earlier),  It was that evening and I had to throw things in the suitcase pretty quickly to get everything to the airport.

Good afternoon.  I'm just now getting back to the Daily.  There have been so many great pictures posted in the meantime, that I doubt I will find any different ones.  Plus, I'm am seeing pictures of places we have not visited, so I'll keep them in mind for the next time we're in Civitavecchia.

We stopped in Civitavecchia twice in 2018. First as a turnaround day after the transatlantic segment and then to disembark after the Mediterranean portion. For turnaround, we took a tour to the necropolis and museum in Tarquinia. Upon disembarking, we did a couple of days in Rome at the Savoy. It was a great cruise on the Koningsdam!

Thanks. I was supposed to be with 3 friends but they cancelled so now I need to figure how to do things on my own (where I’ll feel safe being solo).

My back is doing better, thanks for everyone’s concerns. Lots of rest/breaks, no lifting, heat helps. I work a partial day today then I’m off. I’m cooking a lasagna for my DD and her DH tonight (his b-day is Fri but I’ll be in NOLA). Covid test is tomorrow. 🤞

Sorry your firends canceled on you.  I know you'll still have a good time.  Glad your back is better.  BTW, hope you fail the text tomorrow.

I like cold tea - I make my own with 1/2 Lipton 1/2 Twining's Irish Breakfast.  It would be great to make it with all Twining's but finding it on a regular basis at the grocery is a problem.     @dfishthe chicken recipes and pictures made me hungry - especially the second one with the cherry tomatoes.  I live with a wild man - he keeps badgering me to ask members on CC to find out what the "hot" slot machines are on the NS.   If he keeps it up I may just post it on the HA for Dummies.  🤑 The wine sounds lovely.   I spend too much time at the pharmacy it seems.  I go to a small independent pharmacy so I know everyone there.

We had a beautiful sunrise this morning.   I will try to post some photos from the end of our Iberian Adventure on the Kdam in 2018.   They will be of Rome not the port city.  Hopped right onto a bus to Rome.   Borghese Gardens and the remainder were from the Vatican Museum.

Prayers for those who are sick and those supporting them and to keep us all safe from Covid.   🙏

Civitavecchia is always a nice destination to start , finish or be half way on a cruise and like many of you we have also been there quite a few times . Because I am expecting a lot of pictures of Rome today I will show some pictures from after disembarking our 2015 cruise on the Zuiderdam which finished in Civi and we than stayed a couple more days in the town of Fiumicino near the airport before crossing the Atlantic . While we were in Fiumicino we took an adventurous trip on a local bus to Ostia Antica the archeological site of the well preserved early Roman Harbour City near the mouth ( Os , latin ) of the River Tiber  which is now a few km’s land inwards .

Most of the buildings , remains , are from the 3rd up to 4th century BC . It is a very nice and fairly easy place to visit , even because of its large size and it is very nice to stay there for about 5 hours to take it all in .

Tony, thanks for the pictures of Ostia Antica.  We enjoyed our day there, but didn't have too much time.  A friend dropped us off since he had rented a car to pick his wife up at the airport, as she had to join the cruise late.  We also found wandering around the ruins was easy.  When we left, we took the metro into Rome and the train back to Civitavecchia in time for sailawy.  I think my pictures are just about the same as yours.

Good morning and thanks all!  Yay, I can react so I though I better post quickly!
I love hot tea,  just had my first cup of honey mango green tea, followed by Cinnamon sunset Harney and sons,  next up will be earl grey London fog, followed tonight by ginger lemon twinnings.  I too am a tea granny with countless, seriously plus 100 types.  I find them easy to purchase on my trips, and they are a lightweight souvenir.  France has some excellent ones, as does of course the UK for a reasonable cost.   Unless you happen to be in Uji, Japan where the really good green matcha is from;  a nice one, not the most expensive may set you  back 70$ for a very small tin.

Plus one,  yum on the Murchies!

We’ve visited Civitavecchia numerous times so I thought I’d share some photos from our last cruise when we visited The Bracciano  Castle where Tom Cruise was married, Cerveteri with its excellent Etruscan tombs and a great lunch.  Also caught a photo  from the air.

Good morning, Daily family, best wishes to all!  I am having problems with the CC gremlins too.  I'm fine on my laptop, but later in the day, when I switch to a smaller device, I keep finding CC is telling me to log in, but then won't let me, and then I can't like or respond.

Welcome, @Navybikermom!  We did the same as you, once, wandering in Rome, we ran into a Mass being said by the Pope (Benedict, then) outdoors at St. Peter's.  Huge crowds!

Ann, it will be interesting to see what happens next.  Hopefully, Omicron will die down, and they won't need a hospital ship much longer.  Wonder which ships will get the passengers from the NA's canceled cruises after the two already canceled.

I have a unique story of one of our Civitavecchia visits.  We disembarked the Prinsendam on Nov. 4, 2014 after a fantastic Black Sea and Holy Land cruise. It was our first HAL cruise!  The day before we had docked in Naples (Nov. 3) and enjoyed the Amalfi Coast.  When we got off the Prinsendam on Nov. 4 it was quite a windy day.  We checked in the Hotel Miramare (no longer open) which overlooked the sea.  The winds were extremely high that day but we went out and did a little wine shopping, etc.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVIWOZVDVTpZnCoEnWO8DRML?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1416779074

The previous week's guests had to start disembarking around 3 or 4 am so busses could drive them to the Rome airport or central Rome.  Then the busses were picking up people just arriving at the airport and those of us waiting for the ship in Civi.  It somehow all got accomplished and the ship only left Naples about 3 hours late that day.  We had to give them props for this crazy last minute change in plans and getting it done.

Too bad we didn't enjoy the TA cruise back to Ft. Lauderdale very much.  We were disappointed because we thought we'd love Celebrity.  But I still am in awe of their ability to round up so many busses in a few hours to get this job done.

Sandi, what a mess, but glad Celebrity came through.  We have cruise them in the distant past, but only once since RCCL bought them.

Every day is tea day here! And coffee, the more the better. I agree with @ger_77 and neighborhood chats, yesterday I met a new person while walking in the neighborhood. I enjoyed the 30 minutes of chat.  We have both lived blocks away from each other and had never met.  Perhaps my life is more eventful than I imagine.  After all, since the beginning of the week, DH and I have traveled to Target, Vons (Safeway), Dixieland Lumber, Staples, CVS for free & easy Covid tests (negative!), Sprouts, a quick visit with our financial advisor, and spoke each day with DM who had a successful Mohs surgery this morning. Hopeful that when I am nearly 102 years old, my surgeries will be infrequent and successful. This afternoon, I will walk to school and walk home with 3rd grade DGD. Life is full and life is good!

Good afternoon all. Thanks Rich for the Daily and Ron for the care list.  My last day at my sisters and I will be leaving early tomorrow for the long drive of almost 400 miles over the passes and across two states. It will be good to get home but I am still glowing from all the attention of the crew on board and will miss them. I am so glad I got to meet all the Dailyites I did.   My sister and I are still working out the details of our Alaska adventure in May before I head home. It will be fun to travel together. We are planning to take the train to Vancouver.

I am definitely a tea drinker. My favorite was A&P tea ( the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company) but sadly they are no longer in business. I had a box of A&P tea I found in Frankfurt! that I kept for emergencies. Sadly they are also gone. Now it’s Lipton or Tetley. I collect the “weeds and perfume “ ones from lounges and restaurants when I can for company. I dread when I order tea out and they bring out the box 😱

cheers and prayers for those needing them.

Take a deep breath. Pour a glass of wine or something stronger. Snuggle with Marley. Hope Miko’s vet visit is just a routine one.

Your situation is worse because you have no control over it. None of it. I wish I could change things for you. But all I can do is let you know I am pulling and praying for you.

On one tour to Rome about 15 years ago we were pushing Pauline's mam in her wheelchair near the Vatican.

We were waiting to cross a very busy road next to the Vatican when we spotted the pope in the popemobile.

The traffic kindly stopped for us to cross and Pauline's mam who had Angina and could only walk a short distance jumped out of her wheelchair and hurried the short distance across the road to see the pope.

A lorry driver had his mouth open in amazement and out of embarrassment we put our arms in the air and shouted

Thanks.  Sorry, things are not good in so many ways.

Our light snow turned into a nasty snow storm with risky roads and I got on them like an idiot to get Miko to the vet.  He’s staying overnight.

My life is going to Hell in a hand basket. 😔 😢

Many Prayers 🙏 sent your way Jacqui that things will improve quickly for you.

I second the recommendation for Ostia Antica - Lots to see / well documented for a leisurely exploration. An easy train ride from anywhere in Rome.20191201_114009.thumb.jpg.fea79c6b01b73bde4b324c06709b38f5.jpg

Also did a day train trip to Orvieto. Small town on top of a "hill" with interesting underground tour and an amazing well with a double helix staircase that allowed one way traffic down and then back up for the mules that would carry water,

Roy

It was a lesson learned.  I check the spam folder every time I check the email, which is several times a day, either on the phone or the laptop.  Spam is cleared out of junk mail each time.  Sometimes important things end up in there!

One thing I notice about my spam is quite a bit of it comes from England.  It will mention pounds instead of dollars, or the sender has a UK at the end of their address.  And it never stops coming.

Glad your DM had a successful MOHS surgery today.

Hmmmm.  We’re still planning to board NA on January 29th.  Fingers crossed

Pat

🤞 fingers crossed for you too.  I bet they'll find a cruise for you if the NA is not back in regular service.

Praying all is well Jacqui, and that you are just busy. Continued prayers for Jose, you and the medical team.❤️

Ann, I was wondering and hoping she was just busy, too.

Linda, have a safe trip home tomorrow.  I know you and DS will come up with a lot of wonderful things to do on your Alaska cruise.

Oh, Jacqui, how awful you are now having to deal with Miko needing the vet too.  Hope, it is nothing serious and a night in the vet will take care of it.  Please be careful on the roads.  Like everyone else, I wish things were better for you and wish we could do more than just lend support here.  Sending positive hope and thoughts that things will turn around soon.  ((((((((((HUGS))))))))))
