Rare CineGraphic Posted January 15, 2022 #1 Share Posted January 15, 2022 We’ve heard this from several members of the crew. They usually get a two month “vacation” between contracts, but Since they are currently not using the entire fleet and the ships are sailing with less passengers, the staffing needs are lower. In order to give everyone some work, the “vacation” periods may be longer than the usual two months. They may also be transferred to other ships for brief periods mid-contract as sick crew members need to be replaced. Despite all of this, the service has been excellent. Everyone seems happy to make some money even though they don’t know when they’ll work again. 10

That was what we were also told by crew we knew on our recent cruise......happy to be back and working but not sure how long it would last or when they would return.....so many challenges for everyone involved in cruising.......
Ombud Posted January 15, 2022 #3 Share Posted January 15, 2022 (edited) I hope those of us privileged to cruise during these trying times remember this & tip accordingly. Especially at DMW non-fixed tables and room service. I fully understand that they share the tip pool but I also remember how my kids were when they were off in 2020 despite getting unemployment with stimulus money Edited January 15, 2022 by Ombud 7
Ombud Posted January 15, 2022 #4 Share Posted January 15, 2022 Hope so @HappyInVan. I've tried to get to Vancouver in 2020 (1 of 3 canceled cruises that year, 7 total), 2021 (land based trip from Seattle), now hoping for April 2022.
