Guest Posted January 20, 2022 #1 Share Posted January 20, 2022 We are desperate to cruise, as must be thousands of others. When do you think that Royal will let the natural immunity/non vaccinated on board again? Why couldn't we have just one cruise, any ship, for all those people? Please don't get this thread shut down by not following the rules.

kruzerci Posted January 20, 2022 #3 Share Posted January 20, 2022 Because they are also concerned about their crew. Good luck.
rockmom Posted January 20, 2022 #4 Share Posted January 20, 2022 This is anyone's guess, no one will know, but you're asking for opinions. My opinion is it will be a long time. At a minimum until all the countries where they have port stops are ok with unvaxxed coming and going as they please. And probably also when there are very, very, very few cases onboard for both crew and passengers and it becomes a 'rare' occurrence versus positive cases showing up on every sailing, even with the vax requirement. firefly333 Posted January 20, 2022 #5 Share Posted January 20, 2022 Imo rcl will never take on the role of having to decipher doctors notes that you were positive and recovered. Imagine this for a full cruise of pax. Hard enough just looking at vaccination cards.

The optics of 2 bad cruises in the beginning of the pandemic shut the industry down for 15+ months. Your money (and thousands of others) is no where near what they would lose, if things were to go bad on that one ship. 4

There is too much risk to the crew, and there is the issue with dealing with the foreign port's government to allow a port stop. And with current law, you need to have a foreign port stop. Maybe next year if things start to quiet down for at least a 6 month period of time, with respect to viral transmission and hospitalization. So, if Bahamas (and all other islands) tomorrow said you don't need a test, nor vaccine if you already had COVID, RCI will drop those two requirements?
foxgoodrich Posted January 20, 2022 #10 Share Posted January 20, 2022 Keeping the crew and staff healthy is a major concern on ships, but, more importantly, I don't think cruise ships have the medical resources necessary to handle the potential needs of passengers who get severely ill with Covid. Quarantining people with mild symptoms is one thing, but treating seriously ill people is something else. Unvaxed passengers represent a much greater risk of serious illness. The onboard Medical Center is not a hospital. Ships don't really have the ability to provide long term care or a proper ICU facility, and having passengers who need to be on ventilators would require a level of care that just isn't available on a cruise. Royal does require its medical personnel to be specifically trained in treating symptoms of respiratory illness now, but unvaxed people are more at risk for severe illness. A person who becomes seriously ill with Covid on a cruise would most likely be stabilized, then disembarked in a port with proper hospital facilities. Someday the vax requirement will be dropped. Historically that has been the case...like there is no longer a mandate for smallpox vaccinations as that disease has effectively been wiped out since that first vax mandate in 1777. It took awhile though. In the meantime, perhaps people who choose not to be vaccinated could come together and charter a ship for their own cruise. spooky981 Posted January 20, 2022 #11 Share Posted January 20, 2022 I would love to see a ship dedicated to the unvaccinated. It would be a perfect opportunity to study the spread of the virus among people who aren't vaccinated. Unfortunately everyone's opinions in this regard seem pretty set in stone so I doubt it would sway anyone.
