Casino tipping

It throws off nothing, it is all totally a luck of the draw.  When a player seated next to me says, blah blah blah, I say then move to another table

Oh I’ve seen a good shoe go bad because a player was playing completely inconsistent. Yes one or two hands won’t necessarily make a difference, but being completely random will, and yes I will get up.

Since Casino Tipping is the topic. I only play slots, so I tip the casino cashier a few dollars when I cash out my tickets. And they ring the bell and are happy (and sometimes surprised) to receive it. I also tip on my infrequent hand pays.  I think I just like to hear the bell.

What I can’t stand is the inconsistency of some players.  We all occasionally may go “against the book” occasionally.  Every once in a while I’ll not hit a 16 agains a face care or higher card, which the book says to hit.  Or something similar.  What I can’t stand, and yes I’ll get up, is when they are super inconsistent with their play.  Hitting here, not hitting there,  yes if a shoe is going well, it can ruin the shoe.   I know not everyone believes it’s, but it’s what I feel.  There are certain plays I will never understand, like not hitting on a soft 16 or soft 17.  Never hit against a 5 or a 6 when you have a bust hand, let them bust.  And never ever split 10’s.

Generally I agree with everything you said, but I will split 10s in a tournament 🙂gotta get that chip count up!

Ok, so this I have never seen.  I get black jack or have a good run or whenever I decide a tip is appropriate... so I put $5 chip in front of my little circle where my bid is. Do they then play a hand on their own separate from their "dealer" hand? Potentially winning against themselves? Also, what about tipping at the end of the session.  Is that typical?

That is how I tip.  I place the tip on the dealer side of my bet circle.

That means I am playing that tip for the dealer.  If I win, the dealer wins.  If I lose, the dealer loses, but they know I made an effort.

The dealers seem to be fine either way.  But I like them to have some skin in the game. 😄

This is also the recommended way in most of the black books I have read.

And I only tip during play when I am winning some.

But . . . You also have to leave the table when ahead.  A certain amount “a do not touch pile if you will” is a good idea.  Let’s say you are up $150 playing a $10 table.  By putting $75 or $100 aside and saying I am leaving the table with this, you can start to build a winning amount.  Just playing until you lose a set amount is not a winning strategy.  Managing your winnings is a strategy too.

I say all this I know how hard it is to leave a table when having fun.  😀

I have a personal limit of losing $100 per day.  I figure that is the cost of a day at Disney, so that is my entertainment budget.  If I am winning, I keep playing.  If I lose $100, I quit until the next day.

And I also set aside stacks.  Normally 10 chips at a time.  I get about 25+ chips, I push a stack of 10 a bat away from my playing stack.  If I get up another stack or two, I push more aside.  At times, I will dip into a stack, normally only to double or split.

One thing is, in Vegas, I tend to color up and just hold my chips.  On board, they log buying chips and every change in bet amount.  So cashing out, then buying in the next time with cash earns you more casino points.

I'm so glad you posted this because I was going to ask. I've played Blackjack a few times on and off over the years, either just me or with a group of family&friends. I'm still a newbie and may not always follow the rules, such as when to split.

One thing I've been told is that hard-core Blackjack players absolutely hate when an inexperience player - such as myself - is at the table, for if they make the "wrong choice", it throws off the deck for the rest of the players, affecting their strategy and their odds of winning.  Hence, I rarely play at a table with strangers.

For the serious blackjack players: Any truth to that?

I don't think so -- you're as likely to help them as hurt them by not following the correct (or at least their expected) strategy.

It's just that people tend to remember the times that the player before them took the card they wanted, and don't notice when that same player took a "bad" card and left them just what they wanted.

Good players know this.

And one of the books I read had done the statistics and found it to be a wash as you say.  You win as many more as you lose by them playing whatever way they do.
