From Carnival website

All guests, ages two and above, are required to wear masks at all times when indoors, except when eating or drinking or when in their own staterooms and when outdoors if in large gatherings and physical distancing cannot be maintained. As advised by health experts, guests are recommended to use higher-grade masks indoors (such as surgical or KN95) that have two or more layers, completely cover the nose and mouth, fit snugly against the sides of the face and have a nose wire.

Last cruise on Magic in January, carnival provided 2 kn95 masks in the cabin. Also read if the mask you use can hold water, it’s good.

I do the match/lighter/candle test.  Put on your mask and put flame from lit match, lighter or candle in front of your face and blow.  If it doesn't flicker it's good.

Recommended but not practiced or enforced

Required means required. Compliance is different and sad that some won't follow the rules. Carnival shouldn't be placed in a position to enforce.

Exactly right!  There wouldn't be anything to enforce if folks could simply follows the rules...

Required implies enforced.  I agree they shouldn’t have to but their rules, their responsibility to enforce. It irks me too when people abuse and are not corrected but they wouldn’t do it if they couldn’t get away with it.

Some staff on Panorama were excellent at enforcement. Absolutely firm and no nonsense while commanding respect. Some—not so much. In the comedy shows two women were actually fanning themselves and not wearing masks.

I agree that those who know the rules and willingly came onboard should comply, but if as you say Carnival shouldn't be enforcing, then who should enforce the rules? You do realize that there are passengers who will willfully not follow the rules whether you and like it or not.

It seems you posted this just as I was typing almost the exact same thing. As they say, great minds think alike.😊

Carnival does sometimes enforce, as you admit. It is true that unless there is a penalty for non-compliance, some will become more and more bold. Unfortunately Carnival missed the boat on that as mask mandates are likely to be relaxed.

Should another variant escape from Pandora, mask mandates will be back.

It's sad that some people refuse to follow a 55 mph speed limit on the freeway--thank god there are virtuous Americans still like you who follow all rules and laws. Those are the rules! They must be followed! What's the world coming to if people judge their own risk tolerance instead of obeying wise cruise bureaucrats and the CDC and teacher unions. I'm glad that there are honest, law-abiding folks who never exceed the speed limit or who walk alone in a hallway wearing a properly protective, sealed mask so they can get to a crowded bar or dining room--and take the mask off and talk and breathe and eat. They don't have to make sense, they're The Rules! Except on NCL...and just about every indoor venue in almost all states now...and if you're sitting for hours smoking in the casino.

Incredible that you can sit and exhale smoke for hours in a casino and as long as you are actively playing, COVID knows that it can't be spread.

It's incredible that COVID knows it can spread in dining rooms if you are just walking through so be sure to wear your mask, but once you sit down and begin eating it knows not to spread anymore.

Further, it's incredible that COVID can spread between sips of your drink in the comedy club (but it won't spread to the performer) so be sure to sip and cover!

All in all, COVID is a very smart virus.

on my Dream cruise in December, Carnival did a good job making sure everyone wore their masks as they were entering the dining room and lido buffet area.  In the casino, they left the enforcement up to the dealer/pit boss.  Some dealers never said a word to anyone.  Some would enforce the rule.  I got the feeling that the dealers didn't like having to be the enforcer.  The majority of passengers seemed to be following the rules.

It's all about weighing out risks/benefits.

I'm sure you know in some places you can get a ticket for not speeding at times.

It's a shame so much tax money is wasted on catching, prosecuting, and incarcerating criminals. Especially when private citizens are profiting off of owning some prisons.

Don't you know Utopia doesn't exist - where everyone has equal power?

Enjoy NCL!
