FOPMan Posted April 3, 2022 #1 Share Posted April 3, 2022 Does a day start (end?) at midnight (ship’s time), or is it later? (Yes, I know that people don’t party on HAL to 2am).
Sharon in AZ Posted April 3, 2022 #2 Share Posted April 3, 2022 Good question. I always thought it was midnight.
Rare kazu Posted April 3, 2022 #3 Share Posted April 3, 2022 I was told it was midnight pre-covid. I think that is sill the case but my cruises keep getting cancelled so I can’t vouch for AC (after covid). 1
Petronillus Posted April 3, 2022 #4 Share Posted April 3, 2022 It's an interesting question, theoretically. Practically, though, I gotta wonder how many folks drink their daily limit under the beverage package?

highscar Posted April 3, 2022 #6 Share Posted April 3, 2022 Speaking of. Because the soda card is gone I purchased a beverage card. Curious to know if there is a discount involved. The soda card was 50p/c off soda.

The value is in the simplicity of the card vs. having a separate charge on your bill for every purchase.
CruiserBruce Posted April 4, 2022 #8 Share Posted April 4, 2022 Is this REALLY an issue?
FOPMan Posted April 4, 2022 Author #9 Share Posted April 4, 2022 My wife likes fancy coffee and smoothies- 3 drinks gone by 9am, 5 more drinks (water, soda) by 4pm; 2 @ Happy Hour; glass of wine and expresso at dinner, and evening drinking (alcohol/soda) at Music Walk. The non-alcoholic drinks sneak up on you 🙂

I check at rare intervals during the COVID-19 lockdown, and imho there wasn't much useful traffic. It gladdens my heat to see an uptick.
strickerj Posted April 4, 2022 #11 Share Posted April 4, 2022 Yeah, this is definitely more of an issue now that non-alcoholic beverages count toward your limit. :(
Rare POA1 Posted April 4, 2022 #12 Share Posted April 4, 2022 I was told that it was when the system was closed out for the night. This is vintage 2018 information, but we stayed up late enough to verify that it wasn't midnight on the dot. It was a little after the last bar closed and the ship ran its daily reports. On HAL, that's never super late though.
jimgev Posted April 4, 2022 #13 Share Posted April 4, 2022 I have never come close to seeing midnight on a cruise so I have no idea.
Rare nyold Posted April 4, 2022 #14 Share Posted April 4, 2022 Is there a way to check your quota, say around 10pm? I also might get close to 15, not due to alcoholic drinks but due to soda and water in the afternoon

LadyBerard Posted April 5, 2022 #16 Share Posted April 5, 2022 We sailed on the Rotterdam on 3/20. We found alcoholic beverages extremely weak; therefore, we were ordering doubles. Although I never went over my allotted 15 drinks per day, my husband did by a couple on a few days. No biggie though. Drink prices were quite reasonable compared to other lines. Lowest final bill we have ever gotten on a cruise. 🙂
MellyMel612 Posted April 5, 2022 #17 Share Posted April 5, 2022 Haven't sailed on HAL yet but on other lines we have had no problem drinking water from the tap as it's all filtered. I am assuming it's the same on HAL ships?

Rare albingirl Posted April 5, 2022 #19 Share Posted April 5, 2022 We met another couple recently on the ship who hit their limit midafternoon several days. It was surprising that they didn't fall off the bar stool.

Rare nyold Posted April 5, 2022 #22 Share Posted April 5, 2022 I actually kept a tally of the drinks when I sailed with a different line 3 years ago, just you know... out of curiosity if I got my money's worth. Turns out that on sea days, I can easily hit 15 mid afternoon, from mocktails and sodas and sweet drinks and what not.

I have always thought the same on any ship. I don't ever come near the daily limit alcohol-wise, but I sure wouldn't want to be keeping track every time I had water.
