NW Pacific Posted April 21, 2022 #1 Share Posted April 21, 2022 Anyone cruising after March 1, 2022, can you confirm if NCL did provide testing at the Pier at your cost prior to boarding, if unable to get test on your own???????????Specifically in the US. I recall that one person reported getting tested at the pier in Miami for, IIRC, $99 .

There were signs at Terminal B in Miami. But why wouldn't you just do a eMed proctored home test. Do your test at the kitchen table while sipping coffee. You have your report seconds after the proctor verifies your negative results. And your insurance company should cover some if not all of the cost of the test kit.
complawyer Posted April 21, 2022 #4 Share Posted April 21, 2022 we just got back from the jade cruise. round trip athens to athens april 8 thur 17th. we had a local covid test on the 5th, to comply with ncl requirement negative test 3 days prior to departure. 1st stop was jerusalem. we got to the athens port and there was a sign that said " europhins" yes or no. we entered the yes line. it led to a group of stations. at that point our passports were checked, and we were given the covid vial the Qtip. we were then sent to wait and were given colored stickers. when our color was called, we were sent for a covid test. the vial also had a letter number (like a bingo card). we then went into another room until our number card was called. you then went up to the desk and was advised as to whether or not your test came back + or -. if it was - you were given a color band for your wrist, and allowed into the check in area. while this entire procedure was a major pain in the a**, it took about an hour from start to finish. so yes, ncl tested at the pier. the 1st day out was a sea day, but the israeli ministry of health sent out their own personnel, and we were required to take another covid test on board the ship before it was allowed to dock and disembark passengers
Rare mking8288 Posted April 21, 2022 #5 Share Posted April 21, 2022 Yes, it's available from "eurofins" as an option on the spot, at your own expense, fees-based services in partnership with NCL - here in NYC (March 27, 2022) for the Getaway ... Pretty expensive but on the spot rapid results if you can't find another way to get tested, for whatever reasons. Cruises sailing to Bermuda & Travel Authorizations required will keep the vendor there for a while until 🤔
NW Pacific Posted April 22, 2022 Author #6 Share Posted April 22, 2022 BirdTravels: uncertain if we would have capability to do online testing, would be leaving home more than 2 days before cruise. Don't think our old phones would support testing. SO, that is why I prefer to test at Pier. did it in January, worked well for us!!
Rare mking8288 Posted April 22, 2022 #7 Share Posted April 22, 2022 @NW Pacific FWIW, some of the NCL embarkation ports are charging less than $250 per cruiser to do testing ... but, even at $100 p/p x 2, that's still pricey, IMHO for convenience. If your old mobile/cellular phones are several generations behind or one of those AARP style jumbo flips - time to upgrade to a newer & better device, for much less than you think - depending on your carrier & their offers. Spend a portion of that money destined for a one-time rapid testing services - NOT. Instead, do an upgrade at least one of your old phone - be nice and treat yourself to an upgraded device ... catch up a little with the newer technologies (especially if you plan to and will be doing more cruising in the coming years.) Of course, that's your choice & money. Happy, safe & healthy cruising !

GreenValleyDogWalker Posted April 22, 2022 #9 Share Posted April 22, 2022 Would like to hear if anyone has experience at the pier testing in Miami - we are sailing out of there (but not until January 2, 2023) and will be looking for a testing site that is open on the days prior (New Year's Eve and New Year's Day) THANKS

But you're not cruising until 2023 so whatever procedures at whatever costs that are in place now will probably change numerous times between now and then so it makes a lot more sense to start checking when there's a couple of weeks to go until your cruise. Any information you may obtain now has a good chance of being useless in January.
Rare Rick&Jeannie Posted April 22, 2022 #11 Share Posted April 22, 2022 as @njhorseman states...it is WAY too early to be overly concerned about 2023 dates. Mark my words...anything said about today's protocols will be different come time for you to worry about a test...if you even need to be tested at all by that time! NW Pacific Posted April 23, 2022 Author #12 Share Posted April 23, 2022 mking 8288: lol, no AARP Jumbo phones. When technology fails, you are up a creek. Flying back Januray 2022 from Cruise from LAX to PDX. checked in with Delta, already had our online check in on phones. Asked for a paperticket at the counter, we were in first class. got on plane, gentleman behind us used his phone to check in, well another passenger had the same seat assigned. Gate agents come onboard. Passenger behind us , trying to find his online confirmation on phone, well he cant. Other passenger has paper ticket. guess who got Seat . Absolute true story! think we could figure out testing online, but just would prefer to do it at Pier. thanks for your suggestions though. old habits die hard, safe sailing for you!
