Earliest flight out of Miami

Recommended Posts

I know this has been answered before, but I for the life of me cannot find the thread.

I just found out that my departure time from Miami airport has been changed in September.

How early, is the earliest, flight that I can make if I do a self departure and walk off my own luggage?

I know the airport is fairly close to the cruiseport.

If I have to change the flight, the next earliest flight I could get home is at 5pm.....that's a lot of time to do nothing!

Thank you in advance.

We normally try for after noon so we can linger over breakfast and do a nearly last call escape with the concierge. But the only flight semi reasonable for our next cruise from Miami was at 10:20 so we grabbed it. We will at least have the concierge escort on the way out and with Clear and TSA pre check Miami was a real breeze even on Easter weekend. I have known people to manage much earlier ones, fingers crossed

You can get to MIA in under 30mins from leaving the ship...lots of cabs...ubers...shuttles waiting for passengers. If you can walk off with your luggage at 7am you will be there before 8am. If this is an internal US flight I would think you should be good. We normally book a flight around 11am to Canada and get off between 7.30am - 8am and have never had an issue.

If you have passports, the facial recognition technology makes going through Customs super fast.

You have to wait in a line to see a Customs official if you don’t have passports.

We usually book a 10:30 flight. We use a regular, flat rate taxi back to the airport (don't bother trying to save a few bucks by waiting around for an uber). Normally, as fast as you can walk down the gangway, through the terminal, through the baggage hall, there is a few second stop at the customs video scanner and you're on the curb.

We made a 950am flight in March out of Miami.  We left our room on the Symphony at 730am and were at the gate at 830am.  We also had notified Royal of our departure time prior.  Self check out.  Facial recognition. TSA pre check.  Priority on AA.  Went to correct area for our Uber driver.

As long as you are organized, it can be done.  Airport is far less crowded in the am then for the 12pm and on flights as that's when EVERYONE goes from the cruise ships because they feel safer.  Im glad they do as it makes my experience better. 😄

I'm booked at 1020. Out of FLL a tad further. I plan on earliest walk off.

The next flight is around 5 pm like you. I will go and ask for group 1 walk off at customer service.

The ship has for the past few cruises left paper in cabin to tell you how to give them your flight info.  We did this on the Symphony on day 5 of a 7 day cruise, and were given the earliest available.  I dont think they checked though.  And the ship had about 3000 on it at the time.

I am a risk taker on return flights but in my opinion unless the ship is delayed you can easily make a 10:00am flight and maybe even a bit earlier if you walk off self assist early as possible and the ship is not late.  In Nov we walked off the Symphony by 7:20. More recent we arrived in Miami on the Explorer Sunday.  There was a customs delay but we were and outside by 7:45.  We were going to FLL which is twice the trip of Mia. Our shuttle picked us up and we were at FLL by 8:35 for our 10:45 flight.  My brother made a 9:50 flight from The Ft Lauderdale port.

The question should be, what’s the earliest flight time you missed and what was your plan B? In October 2019 we were in the middle of a B2B out of Miami. After a leisurely breakfast, we took a walk through the ship and it was a madhouse, apparently there was a computer problem and they had just started the disembarkation about 8:30 or so. The line was huge, walk offs and everybody else intertwined. I’m sure many people missed their flights.

We haven’t flew since the pandemic but from I heard, and read, most plans are lying full, or close to it. It might be awhile before you can rebook, and it will probably be expensive.

Your choice….
