Laplayaperson Posted June 1, 2022 #1 Share Posted June 1, 2022 What is this non-sense I'm seeing about guys fries changed? Weren't they fresh cut fries, and now something different? Please explain/share experiences.
Tiger0613 Posted June 1, 2022 #2 Share Posted June 1, 2022 From my experience, the seasoning is different. November and December 2021 on the Valor were blander than December 2019. The Freedom in January 2022 was only a little bit better.
UpstateCruizer Posted June 2, 2022 #3 Share Posted June 2, 2022 On my last 3 cruises since the restart the fries are no longer the fresh cut fries at Guys. They were a typical frozen type fry with the same seasoning that was previously used for Guys fries.
Rare Saint Greg Posted June 2, 2022 #4 Share Posted June 2, 2022 They were different on splendor last week. Not as good. Didn't eat them.
icft Posted June 2, 2022 #5 Share Posted June 2, 2022 They have been all over the place on our five cruises since reopening. There is no longer any such thing as "Guy's Fries," just things called fries available at Guy's. 1 2
Rare jedi bobs Posted June 2, 2022 #6 Share Posted June 2, 2022 Honestly I hated the old guys fries, I like the regular ones you can get now especily with no seasoning(cutting salt where I can)

Perhaps we needed to ask, IDK.
vwrestler171 Posted June 2, 2022 #8 Share Posted June 2, 2022 Fries have been garbage on both cruises I have been on since the restart and I used to get a plate of them each day.
Joebucks Posted June 2, 2022 #9 Share Posted June 2, 2022 I had them in January after hearing they were different then. They were the same as always.
mz-s Posted June 2, 2022 #10 Share Posted June 2, 2022 On my first cruise since the restart, they were serving frozen fries but similar to the old Guy's style. On my most recent cruise, they were serving the Deli fries but lightly tossed in the Guy's seasoning. Frankly I like the Deli's fries anyway so to me it's an upgrade. I like fries to have a little crunch to them.
Pyrate13 Posted June 2, 2022 #11 Share Posted June 2, 2022 On our last cruise which was on the MG back in Feb, Guy's fries were awful. Certainly not the same as those we've had before. Different fries and different (as in hardly any) seasoning.
Rare talkorpi Posted June 2, 2022 #12 Share Posted June 2, 2022 (edited) True, on our cruise on Vista two weeks ago the fries were regular frozen fries with the old seasoning sprinked on. The burgers were also different - much drier meat with a giant, chewy, super dense bun. They also didn't have the signature sauce for some reason! It was very dissapointing - I was so excited to have a Guy's Burger for the first time in four years, but what we got was significantly worse than our last cruise in 2019! Oh well - it is free, but I ate there after getting onboard and never went back because it was downright gross. 😞 Edited June 2, 2022 by talkorpi
skridge Posted June 2, 2022 #13 Share Posted June 2, 2022 On my March Cruise on Sunshine the fries were as good as they have been since the first time I had them.

They were good on my cruise in March too, but the change seems to have apparently happened since then.
mz-s Posted June 2, 2022 #15 Share Posted June 2, 2022 It has to be a supply or price issue. Baked potatoes have all but disappeared from the MDR menu as well.
MalleyCat Posted June 2, 2022 #16 Share Posted June 2, 2022 On the Magic in April, some days they were the original fresh cut. Some days they were frozen fries. No rhyme or reason.
Black Magic Posted June 2, 2022 #17 Share Posted June 2, 2022 We cruised the Breeze early May and the fries were the frozen type.

On one cruise the deli had great fries. Got the burger and then got the fries at the deli. Hopefully our up and coming cruise on the Liberty will have good Guys burgers. Not the paper thin ones on our last Carnival cruise 2 years ago. I hate asking, but you can have them make a burger your way.

For our December Glory cruise, they still had the fresh cut fries.
CorbinCatFan Posted June 2, 2022 #23 Share Posted June 2, 2022 Returned to Carnival in April on the Magic and the times I had Guys, it was the fresh cut fries and normal buns. I was so pleased after two RCCL cruises where their hamburgers were really disappointing. I hope this change in Carnival is only temporary. I'm looking forward to the next few Carnival cruises.

They're still served on Lido but have all but disappeared from the MDR at least for now. Even on elegant night, no baked potato with the prime rib - just half a potato with cheese cooked onto it. I think they'd bring you sour cream and bacon bits if you wanted it though.
