Aurora in Hamburg

Hi All.  Due to sail on Aurora for 21 nights in August.  Tracking her position, she has been in Hamburg since 11th June. Does anyone know the reason.  I cant find any reference to her going for refit and her next advertised cruise is on 5th July. There appear to be gaps in her schedule until after our cruise. Just curious as to the lack of information.  Cheers Les

Not any more, R208 cancelled as dry dock works running late…..

We are writing to you regarding your up and coming cruise on Aurora departing 5 July.

We are very sorry to inform you that Aurora’s three night cruise R208 has been cancelled and Aurora will now begin sailing on R209 on July 8, 2022 for the 16 night Scandinavia & Baltic Sea itinerary.

Aurora is currently in dry dock in Germany and the yard has been affected by the widespread global labour shortages and specialist contractors in Europe. This has necessitated the extension to the dry dock period, which sadly means your cruise on R208 will no longer go ahead as planned.

So sorry to hear of another cancellation.  I know how you must be feeling as we should have been cruising Norway & Iceland on her now!

Thanks - yes mine was only 3 nights which is bad enough, so very sorry for you also. I am just looking to see what else is available next week but can’t see any other short break cruises. Ventura is going to Amsterdam on the same day but it seems full. I don’t know if any point calling if they get cancellations last minute?

Thanks, it was very disappointing but such is life, especially at the moment.  We have a cruise booked for September, so at least we have something to look forward to.

Do hope you manage to find a suitable replacement cruise.

Do we have any info. on what the dry-dock works were? Are they just checking out an old ship (an MoT) or are there any improvements/upgrades/changes happening? (I do not read the level of German in the posted link)

I ask because we are sailing on Aurora in September to Canada and back.

Hamburg - Welcome, dream ship "Aurora", for "shaving and hair cutting" (shipyard jargon for grinding, colour up)!

Delivered 22 years ago by Meyer in Papenburg, the 14 decks high 270-metre ship with waterfall over three floors in the atrium, was last at Blohm + Voss in 2014 for the installation of more than 30 million Euro expensive chimney exhaust gas washing system.

According to the industry platform "anbord.de", the shipping company P & O Cruises actually planned the beauty treatment dock in Belfast.

Now the "Aurora" is in Dock 11 (320 m).

From shipyard circles it is said that old contracts will still be fulfilled.

I believe Brexit supply chain issues were causing problems with the dry dock in Northern Ireland so that was 'abandoned' late on and Hamburg was found as a suitable solution.

Sadly, its still not been possible to finish the works in time.
