You will get all kinds of different personalities  on cruises

We usually share   but some nights we just are not into conversation  with anyone LOL

Never share at breakfast ..I am not a morning person  so I would not inflict myself on anyone other than DH  then LOL

If we have someone  we do not like their personality  we just  do not sit with them again  (if possible)

People are people & it takes all kinds to make the World go round

You do not have to like everyone 🤠

In our early days taking cruises, we had some lovely experiences sharing tables. Lately (although pre-COVID), we had some rather unpleasant ones - not on Oceania - when people discovered we are from Canada we needed to defend our healthcare system, were called 'Socialists', etc. We prefer to stay quiet and not argue, but it isn't pleasant to hear how terrible our country is from others at a table. At our only COVID-era cruise, this past May (our first Oceania cruise), we ate by ourselves for safety as well as sanity. However, I met some lovely people on the few shore excursions I did.

Wow, and here I thought the USA was the only conversational punching bag. On our last cruise (pre-covid, not Oceania) we were routinely seated next to an English couple who delighted in bashing the U.S. in the oh-so-refined way that they have. They did it in such a pleasant way that it took a few seconds to realize you'd taken a hit. On night 3 of this I returned fire in an equally pleasant way (in what my daughter calls Jane Austen-style). Never saw them again. :-)

By the way, I consider Canada and Canadians above reproach in all things. :-)

Considering someone "beyond reproach" is a compliment.

I'll assume that @LHT28 misread your post. After all, being above reproach should include our vocabularies! 😈

Thanks for the compliment - even if it's not universally warranted! 🍺🥌

I still remember all the "Thanks Canada" bumper stickers at the time of the Iranian hostage crisis. Not to be overly dramatic, but that will truly never be forgotten.

Now, back to cruise issues...:-)

Well this has proved an interesting post, I am English and have never berated a fellow diner and I’m not oh-so refined , but perhaps I should step up to the plate and be like ALL my fellow countrymen !
In my experience as a well seasoned global traveller I’ve found that the world is made up of good, bad, rude, snobby people etc… no matter where they come from, I’m not bothered if you’re gay, trans , black, white , green with pink spots I’ll share a table with you as long as you’re pleasant company.

just a final note to add something else to the topic my husband sometimes wears jeans to dinner as do I , !!!

Rosrov couldn’t agree more. I’m just a simple non university educated,  nurse from England. We too have never berated anyone we sit with or judge them. The one group of people we get on with so well, is gay men. Seem to make friends with them on most cruises.

Avalong, , I have to ask why you sat with them 3 times if they were so refined and not your cup of tea?

It was the oddest thing. We were actually at a 2 top and the other couple was at an adjacent, very close,  2 top. It was open seating, not assigned, yet we were seated at the very same table each night right next to these folks.

I've perhaps left you with the wrong impression though. My father was born in Scotland and I still keep in touch with family there. I did Highland dancing competitively as a child. So to say that I have an affinity for the British Isles and its people is putting it mildly.

+1.  And more recently, the overwhelmingly gracious hospitality shown to thousands of Americans and others, whose airliners were diverted to Newfoundland owing to the closing of U.S. airspace in the immediate wake of 9/11.

Which we are now stealthily recouping through exorbitant ticket prices for "Come From Away" 😁

Kidding aside, it's very encouraging to see that folks still remember our occasional opportunities to lend a hand to our good neighbours (Cdn spelling) ... Gracias! 🍺🥌

Let's not forget the response from Boston after the Halifax explosion over a century ago.

You don't think only Canadians know how to Curl, do you? This is really from my spouse. His family has been involved in Curling for decades.
