Just as SueKel reported, my cabin was neither ready nor accessible at boarding time.  There was an announcement that cabins were accessible, sometime between 1 and 1:30.

Same here. The hallway doors have also been shut without access to the cabins.

It can depend on the ship. We were able to access our cabin immediately we boarded on 9 out of 10 cruises. The one we couldn't was on Ruby Princess.

How were the people doing a B2B able to get to their cabins?

Are cabins normally ready upon boarding,  and, if not, can you access them to put your bags down?

Depends on when you board. If in the first group so to enjoy lunch onboard, then no. If later in the afternoon near departure time, then yes. Generally, expect cabins to be unavailable until around 1:00 pm.

It's important to note that the people who indicated their rooms were available upon boarding did not say when they boarded. I suspect they boarded later in the afternoon, a crucial detail that was left out.
