Concierge Lounge on Sky Princess

We are on the Sky Princess in October for the first time and wondered if anyone could tell us anything about the concierge lounge.  We are in a suite and so know we can use it but can't really find out much about it. Any other information on being a suite passenger on the Sky would be appreciated. Are you able to have afternoon tea (scones and cream) delivered to your suite?  Is there a separate embarkation area for suite passengers at Southampton? Many thanks.

Yes, you are able to have afternoon tea delivered to your suite.  This needs to be called in ahead of time (check with room service).  If you want just scones and cream, you can request just those.  IF you decide to have full tea service, keep in mind that A LOT will be sent.  I usually request tea service for one with an additional carafe of hot water, cup, tea bags.

I was on the Royal a few months ago (similar ship) and (from memory) the Lounge has several large TV's, maybe 5 small tables, a human concierge, and food/drink area.  Overall, I guess it could hold 15 people (ish), but the most I saw in there was maybe 5.  There's always a selection of snacks, coffee, and soft drinks.  I think they have a designated time when there are more drinks (beer/wine) available (something like a happy hour).  

 

I think the lounge itself is open 24/7.  The in-person concierge can be really helpful...ie, I don't think you'll need to go to the regular guest services desk for anything.

We found the Concierge Lounge a little oasis of calm and especially nice during not so nice weather when everyone is crowded around the Piazza. Once in your suite, you are provided with a swipe card for gaining entry and details in a welcome letter on general perks including the evening Aperitifs in the lounge.

 

 

You can pop om to grab nibbles, soft drinks and use the coffee machine at any time.

We've only found a suite embarkation lounge at the Mayflower terminal in Southampton - we were not directed to a specific location at Ocean terminal although I know there is an elite area on one side of security. However, both terminals are letting Suite and Elites board earlier now.

As someone mentioned the concierge lounge is an oasis of quiet. They have food out all day -nuts,  small sandwich rolls, salads and mini desserts. We go there for lunch most days. At happy hour (5-7) they open up into the chapel for more room.

One of the best benefits for a full suite passenger is the special full suite breakfast served in one of the specialty restaurants. On the Sky, believe it is Sabatini's. Breakfast is prepared to order. You can order whatever you want, not just what is on the menu. If they have the ingredients it will be prepared for you. If they don't have the ingredients they may be able to get them for the next morning. It is so much better than room service and club class or any other dining location. There will be information in your cabin when you board. Don't miss it. Don't forget that you can have Club Class dining for the evening meal each day and for lunch on sea days.

We had our first full suite experience recently on the Enchanted.  The Concierge Lounge was very nice to have available to us.  The Concierge himself was helpful in many ways.  He made dinner reservations for us, helped take care of problems we had in our suite, and even escorted us to the tender boats in order to bypass the lines.  The lounge was always open but not always manned by the concierge or his assistant.  Even during those unmanned times you could get coffees, sodas, or snacks.

I have to admit, I am curious about the advantages of the concierge lounge.  We will be in an aft corner suite on Sky in November and it never really occurred to me that we would use the lounge.  When we need time out to relax I thought we would enjoy our balcony and look at the view of the wake.  We have made all of our dinner reservations at speciality restaurants for 3 nights and will use club class dining for the other evenings. 

The only thing we want to try to book onboard is the Winemakers dinner if they have one.  There is so much food everywhere you look onboard and we have our mini-bar and premium drinks package so would not go for food or free alcohol.

I would love to hear opinions on why we would go to it if we do not want the food or drinks.  After reading reviews here I would like to try it one evening, but my DH may need some convincing.

Given your plans, I guess I'd treat it as a way to get away from the crowds, but also not be in your room.  Maybe if the weather isn't ideal, and you want to meet a few friends for a quiet chat, or just change up the scenery.   I wouldn't treat it as a 'main event' but more of a 'crack filler'. 

 

I found the coffee quite good and a bit more convenient than the IC.

Have been in suites aboard royal class ships multiple times and honestly, don't find it to be all that much of a muchness. The wine available during the happy hour is average at best - although not charged towards your drink package, so there's that. The snacks are what's in the buffet also. Sure coffee machine if you want a cup - although not as good as International Cafe, which can be delivered to cabin! 

We rarely if ever go. When there's been a problem - we see the suite concierge - but they're only available certain hours a day.. when we've had aft suites, we basically don't bother. Last holiday season we were literally across the hall and popped in for cookies and glass of wine a few time. 

We prefer relaxing in our comfortable cabin with the ocean views versus the smaller dark sort of cramped feeling enclosed lounge. 

Like anything else aboard, some people love it, some don't and some are ambivalent.
