FPL shows energy usage by the hour and usually the a/c runs 3-4 times a day while we are gone. It shows no usage since 5 a.m. yesterday, so either low temperatures or no power. We aren’t there to be uncomfortable, but we got caught with a lot of food in the freezer. We froze a cup of water before we left and put a quarter on top of the ice. Crossing our fingers that the quarter is not on the bottom of the cup when we return. Since FPL can show hourly usage, I'd think they could also show status of power being on or off. And that quarter idea is pretty ingenious!

Rare twangster Posted September 29, 2022 #178 Share Posted September 29, 2022 Simply put an ice cube in a ziplock bag. If it melts and refreezes it won't be an ice cube but a weird shape flat chunk of ice based on the how the ziplock bag is resting in the freezer.

Surprised that it lasted that long We were very...very lucky (so far) and have not lost power. Weird right now being in the very large "eye" of now Tropical storm Ian. Calm winds and rains have subsided...for now...backside whipping coming up soon.

Me neither...though I think we will get a bit more rain...like we need that! 😮 Funny thing about living in the swamp though...you would think we would have flooding problems...but all that swamp mud seems to be sucking it in. 😄 And the Frogs were singing all night long. So far the Alligators are not roaming about through the back yard...so far anyway. This guy bumped into our bird feeder a few months ago. 1
P.A. Posted September 29, 2022 #184 Share Posted September 29, 2022 Does anyone how Venice, FL did? Have a cousin there. He sent me a video on Wed about 3:30 strong winds and rain. Haven't been able to get a hold of him since. I figured power out.

Probably because power outages are so widespread that the “triangles” referred to are a huge overlapping mess. Will try again later, hopefully after they have made some progress in restoring power and there is less going on with the graphics.
Rare livingonthebeach Posted September 29, 2022 #187 Share Posted September 29, 2022 All cell towers and power is out in affected southwest Fl areas. It will take weeks to restore -- very very sad, Prayers to all impacted. 🙏

Rare crewsweeper Posted September 29, 2022 #189 Share Posted September 29, 2022 Those of you flying in. Port of Miami is open. Pretty sure Port Everglades is too. Haven't heard on Port Canaveral or Port of Tampa. So I'm sure MIA is open or opening. Tampa airport opens tomorrow, I believe. MCO will probably follow suit. JAX is closed, could open on Saturday, But I'd be leery about the port there given it's location.

Rare cruiselvr04 Posted September 29, 2022 #195 Share Posted September 29, 2022 Grandeur arrival into Galveston is going to be a few hours behind schedule. Weather delay stated. Maybe they left Cozumel a little later and the gulf was rough? Does she even have stabilizers?

Update - I tried FPL’s site again and found out our power was back on. Not sure how long it was out. Hopefully the quarter that was on the top of the cup of ice is still there, or at least not too far under the surface. Replacing food is not a huge expense if that is all we have to pay for. The evacuation cruise will be fully covered by the jackpot I won on the little piggy slot machine in the casino, for $35 more than the total of the cruise fare, internet, gratuities, and parking!
