Does Princess go through hand luggage and luggage dropped at the dock, and look for plastic bottles, such as for sodas and energy drinks, so they can ask you to discard them prior to boarding?

Supposedly Princess no longer allows passengers to bring plastic soda or water bottles on the ship at embarkation.  The policy says cans of soda and water (12 per person) are allowed.

 

I do not know how much Princess actually enforces this policy.

Never happened on my Princess cruise 3 weeks ago and the following cruise my mate travelled on 🤷‍♂️

Came off Sky Princess last Saturday.

 

No checking of any luggage bags for plastic bottles prior to boarding.  
Plastic water bottles issued onboard as part of “Princess Plus” drinks package.

We boarded the caribbean Princess in August in Quebec City-I had a plastic water bottle in my bag and was asked to discard it but they have plastic bottles on the ship....does not make sense.

We have done over 40 cruises on Princess and never once had to discard a plastic bottle.

Any plastic water bottle that has a broken seal will be discarded because the liquid inside may have been replaced. Sealed bottles, however, are not a problem.

I put my spirits in plastic bottles so that there will not be any scrutiny.  I have never encountered an obstacle, but those who like to quote Google and other website information will most likely differ.

Just off the Royal Tuesday. On boarding, I carried 2 530ml plastic bottles of soda and DGF carried 4

in our backpacks. Never a question asked or eyebrow raised.

I have yet to go on a cruise where my bags haven't been checked. I have seen security remove contraband items, so I can only assume they will do the same with single use plastic bottles if told to by the cruise line.

As others have said they are looking for smuggling.  People will bring on water or soda in bottles and some of the bottles will have been filled with liquor, so they just ban all bottles and if you want your own soda or water you bring on cans.  It's stated in their policy and you agree to abide by their policy no matter what their reasoning.  So if you want water find it in cans. 🙂  It's been this way for a number of years with CCL corporation
