Whew, just checked my airline and they are ok with aerosols in checked baggage, however will definitely get some Australian recommended sunscreen in addition to our own.

We have our own rash shirts but love the ugly ones!
Rosalyn

I'd put in s zip lock bag, as I've had spill accidents in my luggage.

  • 2 weeks later...

There was a study a few years back about level of sun protection in the various brands, and many were found lacking, even if they advertised as 50+. Cancer Council's were deemed the best then, so I've stuck with them since.

Agree with previous posts.

The "Chemist Warehouse " chain is by far the most inexpensive option to buy such stuff. Lotions and potions galore. Shampoos, moisturizers, protections galore (from mosquito to birth to sun), vitamins, over the counter medications.  All there. Check their website. Unless you have a very specific favourite American brand of stuff to slap on your body,  perhaps save some weight and luggage space and buy what you need here.

Leave any leftovers on the ship.

Many cruise lines collect stuff and put it on a shelf in the crew area. *seen that on multiple occasions.

As for greasing up before going for a swim.

PLEASE put on sunscreen half an hour before going in the water, so that the substance can be absorbed! Otherwise you leave an oil film like the Exxon Valdez on our reef! 😎

Re-apply after the swim!

Check your prices, Chemist Warehouse isn't always the cheapest.

I use Cancer Council 50+.

Remember to put it on your ears. Very tender. Earlier this year, fortunately benign.

MY wifey once managed to get a sunburn on the bottom of her feet, after falling asleep on the beach.

Everything else was well covered, but....

I said that it would have surprised me had she caught sunburn on her tongue.

😉

That would have been painful.  My cousin fell asleep on the beach and got sunburnt on back of her knees. She couldn't bend her legs, very painful.

I remember in the late 60's after a night shift I went to Maroubra Beach, fell asleep and woke up in Prince Henry Hospital, severely dehydrated, nearly died with tubes in me. I learnt my lesson.  I still like the sun, in moderation. Had a few big skin cancers cut out in the last couple of years. Every time I go to the Doctor now he checks for more, so he can cut them out and charge me $300, lol.

Don 't you have bulk billing doctors?  I have been to a doctor in a medical practice and ultrasound specialist since I've been here and it has ask all been bulk billed.  Even the chemist is cheaper than my local chemist.  Impressed.

I have a Commonwealth Low Income Card, but they didn't want to see it.  They just wanted to know I had a Medicare Card.  A young couple came in with a baby when I was there.  Receptionist said the doctor won't see them without a mask.  Masks were $1.60 each at chemist in building..  I was surprised they didn't have some spares under the counter.  They just sat there and looked worried, so I asked them did they have enough money to buy the masks.  Oh yes, they replied.  Then the receptionist asked did baby have Medicare, no, not yet, but parents did.  Cost them $80 for appointment.

With the ultrasound, the first place cost just over $100.  The second place, which was within walking distance, was free (bulk billed).  Pays to shop around for same service.
