I paid $900 cdn for a Superior Ocean View Balcony (and that is sailing SOLO!)  The GS when I looked at what it costs to book outright was about $2400/PP.   Yay me!

So your now sailing solo in a GS??? Hard for me to believe RCL would do this...but Congrats!! Probably has has a light passenger load?

OK thanks.  I am still trying to figure out how this works. So you won a bid for $30 over the minimum for the GS.  What was the minimum bid for the GS if was not $2400/PP? And for solo too?

We didn't find out that we were denied until after sailaway and multiple visits to the Ambassador..boohoo.

The one time we succeeded in getting an upgrade after we boarded we went directly to GS and asked them if they could make it happen. Finding the LA on boarding day is virtually impossible until late in the afternoon (at best).

We have won upgrades multiple times, and have never bid anything more than the minimum bid.

We currently have a bid in to upgrade from a JS to a GS on an 8-night Jewel in December @$300/pp. The cost of a GS booked directly is $4,200 more than we paid for the JS

Yes understood.  I am asking about that.  What was the minimum bid for the GS in this case?

So you are bidding $300 pp over what you paid for the JS if you win the bid on the GS.

Thats how it works... If you bid $95pp to upgrade to a GS from a Balconey...You would be charged $190 additional.Thats it.   I just put a $95/pp bid in to upgrade to a 1 BR GS.... Don't really care...but if they are willing to take a low ball offer....Happy to oblige

Yes, I am sailing solo.  My bid was x2,  so I paid as if there were 2 in the cabin. What is so hard to believe here?

The minimum bid was $300.  I bid $330 - In Canadian dollars, so that would be roughly $235 USD. I paid double, so $670 CDN which would be about $480 USD.

That is correct. That works out to about ~$3,600 less than if we had booked a GS initially. BTW, we love the JS on Jewel, so if we don't win, we will be very happy where we are now. We also have a bid in on an OS @$400/pp, which works out to about $4,000 less than what an OS is going for on that cruise.

Good point...my bad... solo or 2 is irrelevant since your paying double. Enjoy the perks and extra space!!

Low key freaking out!

I sail in 9 days, on the Explorer. Just found out today I won my bid!

my bid was $30 over the minimum.

I was in an ocean view balcony and now I’m in a Grand Suite 🎉

I did not bid on a Junior Suite.

Miracles DO happen!

That's great.  I have never been in a grand suite, just a junior suite a couple of times.  That should be a lot of fun.

As a gamble I put in a bid on a 7 night cruise leaving this Sunday/

Bid to upgrade from a large veranda to a Junior Suite.

Here is today's response:

"While we have not selected your offer yet, the team onboard the ship is still reviewing, and may choose it for upgrade based on availability at departure time."

What are the odds ?

I got the same message for our Harmony cruise a couple weeks ago, I deciphered it to mean I might get upgraded only if someone didn't show up. Boat was nearly at capacity and I got my rejection letter as we were setting sail lol

I wonder if they re-route your checked bags to the upgraded room. Sounds like a P.I.A.

What are the perks to GS instead of balcony? I know the room is larger.

Depends on which ship.  On the Oasis and Quantum class you get access to the Suite / Concierge Lounge and Coastal Kitchen.

What a nice present for you.  Grand Suites are very nice; and so are the suite benefits

Hmm... Not on explorer.   Shame it wasn't Oasis/Quantum.   Basically a nicer room on any other class plus double points (which she won't get.)   Really wish RCL would standardize on suite benefits across classes; even without Coastal.

I beg to differ. She'll have the suite lounge for a quiet continental breakfast, happy hour free drinks and hors d'oeuvres, concierge assistance, free room service, daily breakfast in Chops with escort off the ship at departure.

Pails in benefits to the newer classes.... not getting "free internet, coastal kitchen, a real suite sun deck, 24 hr lounge WITH free beer, wine, champane, soda, and water between 11AM and 11PM."   It's not a comparison.   Not even close.   That little bitty suite loung with 3 hour "free" beverages doesn't cut it.   Royal doesn't charge that much less on those classes for suites but offers much less.  Just my opinion.   Did suites 1x on Freedom class, nothing but Oasis+ since.
