canadarocks Posted October 30, 2022 #1 Share Posted October 30, 2022 The Friday night special at the Canaletto on the Rotterdam is now Veal Florentine Cannelloni (used to be a Chicken Curry I think). Has anyone tried the Cannelloni?
canadarocks Posted October 31, 2022 Author #2 Share Posted October 31, 2022 From the resounding response... I have ascertained that the Friday night special at the Canaletto past and current is not remarkable in any way. 😆
CruiserBruce Posted October 31, 2022 #3 Share Posted October 31, 2022 They have a different "special " every night.
AncientWanderer Posted October 31, 2022 #4 Share Posted October 31, 2022 I don't know about the new Friday cannelloni, but I recall the old menu having cannelloni -- or perhaps as a "special" -- and it was really good. So maybe this new Friday night special will also be good. For those who like veal cannelloni. I do like it.
Rare cruisemom42 Posted October 31, 2022 #5 Share Posted October 31, 2022 I've not tried Canaletto in a long, long time but I'm curious how in the world chicken curry would fit into an Italian menu? 3

There is curry in some Italian food. I remember a pasta dish at a restaurant we used to dine at before it closed. It had curry in it.

Just fired a quick text to a friend in Italy to confirm -- she basically said there is no such thing as a curry in Italian cuisine. They have Indian restaurants of course, but no one would ever go to an Italian restaurant for a chicken curry.
Seasick Sailor Posted October 31, 2022 #8 Share Posted October 31, 2022 Well, I for one enjoyed the chicken curry on Rotterdam during our 30 day cruise this past Dec/Jan in Canelletto. It was our special on Friday's. I also love the veal liver special!

We spent 3 months traveling Italy and found many restaurants that served curry dishes. Especially delicious in Rome and Florence!

Nodakboiler Posted October 31, 2022 #12 Share Posted October 31, 2022 We went to the Canaletto this past Saturday night for the grilled jumbo shrimp special but they didn’t have any and had lobster as the substitute for no additional cost. We are currently in the Med so it was strange that they couldn’t find shrimp!

I was speaking of my experience. So happy to have all the expert’s available at our fingertips on any subject 🤪. Maybe you should contact hal to let them know there is no such thing, according to your friend. Rare cruisemom42 Posted October 31, 2022 #14 Share Posted October 31, 2022 Sheesh, I just found it very odd and wanted to hear more. In my experience I have not encountered a curry dish in an Italian restaurant (either in the US or in Italy), and I also have spent a significant amount of time in Italy over the years. It seems an odd choice to put on the menu of a restaurant like Canaletto. That's all. Not calling anyone else's experience wrong.

I spent two years living in Italy and never once saw curry, except for non-Italian cuisine restaurants. Weird.
