Hi all- asking this on behalf of my sister and brother in law who have never cruised before. They want to travel on Celebrity Silhouette with my nephew who will be 17 on the date of travel.
1 - Can he share their cabin?
2 - If they have a drinks package, does he have to have one?

any other advice or information gratefully received.

He would have to be either in a cabin with someone of age, or in a cabin adjacent to our connecting with his parents.

if he shared the cabin with them perks generally include passengers 1 and 2 only.  So he wouldn’t typically have an included drink package.

If you book an All Included rate, everyone in the cabin gets gratuities covered, WiFi and a drink package.

They should also price an inside cabin for him solo, as long as the inside cabin is across the hall/ very close (what that seems to mean varies).  It might not be much more than adding him as a third, and everyone would have more privacy and a second bathroom.

They may want to look at pricing for adding the 17 year old to their cabin, vs an interior nearby.  They may find that the cost is similar for the two options.
If they want a beverage package for themselves, And not the young person, they can book all inclusive (tends to be about $600/person but includes classic drinks, gratuities and WiFi) and they can do a cruise only for the inside room for the minor.  Then they can buy a NA package if desired for the minor.

We have done both.  We always  booked our teenage son as a third person in our cabin until this past spring.  For our last cruise, we booked him in the inside across the hall from our balcony room. He was almost 18 at the time (3 months before birthday).  Having the second room was great. We will be doing that from now on.

In doing that they need to add the cost not only for the beverage package but also the wi-fi and gratuities which the 3rd person gets if they booked AI rate for the cabin.

Gratuities, yes, but they may not wish to provide wifi for the 17 year old, or they may not need both wifi for themselves and can give one of them to the teen.  Also, a NA package is SUBSTANTIALLY less than alcohol, so it may still be less.

Not sharing a room with a 17 year old boy?  Priceless.  🙂
