How do the prizes work and what do you get?

Only when the Casino is open is when you should be receiving messaging regarding Princess Prizes. I do not understand why they discontinued showing message ‘Game Closed Try Again Later’.

 

Please check when the Casino is open and touching your Medallion on the door panel to unlock, do you get message, Better Luck Next Time, or Try Again Later.

 

These were being displayed while I was on Enchanted last month, disembarked on June 29. As I noted previously, was told ‘sometimes’ for safety/security no message will display.

Exactly, no message all day today nor last night.  We're at Sea since yesterday afternoon.  The fact that there is no message at all is precisely why I was bugging the chat folks.  I was convinced that I wasn't registered for Prizes.  They told me I was and only after mutiple proddings fessed up with the statement I posted above.

The door panel on Emerald also showed my BIL that he won. This was June 15th. It didn’t state what he won, and stated Congratulations for a few seconds with fireworks.

@PATRLR, sounds like a very recent change since as of last month, messages of Better Luck Next Time and Try Again Later were being displayed.

 

I was also concerned when sometimes I was getting no messages,  and shared my concern that how do I know I am getting Prizes  ‘credit’ or ‘entry’ when I activate door panel by touching medallion or initial approach to cabin to unlock. Does not give a high level of transparency or confidence game is operating as should be.

 

I will be on Emerald next month, so will look to see if this ‘change’ of displaying messages is still in effect.

We’re currently on Caribbean Princess and have won two prizes so far. The first was a chefs table dinner with wine pairing - I thought I’d seen on the door panel something about a table for two, but the next day we received a call to the room to book us in. The second time we won $25 obc which we only saw when we looked at our folio on the app. That will help pay for the soft toy Stanley bear we’ve been made to buy!

The APP has a link that will ‘list’ any prizes you have won also your stateroom TV has a link that will display any prizes AND the date and time stamp of the award.

All I can say there were 8 of us (not gambling), just going in/out of our rooms, and none of us won anything. It is just a CHANCE a person takes.

Princess website has a list of the current prizes and approximate odds of winning such prize. Like the lottery many will play, few will win.

It is gambling. You are paying for a “chance” to maybe win something but odds say you will not

My last experience with Princess prizes was in June on the Enchanted, the P is still being displayed in the upper right corner of your door panel and you got messages of Better luck Next Time or Try again later when you have Maxed your entries for the 24hr rolling time period. I also saw flashes of the prize you won.

 

Now I am on Emerald Princess for 8/11-28 sailing. We were delayed leaving BOS because of refueling issues and stayed in BOS an extra day to get this completed. Since we were in port, the Casino did not open till after 6pm on day2. My door panel was not displaying the P, I went to GS to enquire. Was told once Casino opens, enrollment to Prizes should be automatic. When I came back from dinner I saw the P in the upper right corner of the door panel. So I tapped my Medallion to see if any Prizes messages would appear. I believe my first 5 tries, no messages. Finally, I did receive a Better Luck Next Time message, so on the Emerald, Prizes messages are still displayed, although a lot LESS frequently.

 

I guess it is possible the Sky has tweaked the game, but at least I know, Prizes messages will still occasionally show here on the Emerald. Before going to bed, I did a couple of entries and saw a Congratulations message I won a bouquet of Flowers. I checked the APP and TV and the Prize was displayed. When you have a Prize, when you check your stateroom TV, it will not only show the Prize, but also the date and time your Prize was awarded.

That would make me wonder if it actually only worked one time out of the 6.  I suppose one will never know.

Does anyone know what the maximum entries are for a 24 hour period?  I doubt I will ever reach it, but am curious.

There is also an hourly max, as once you have reached, you would get the ‘try again later’ message. None of this is explained, as I had to ask. Now it seems very inconsistent, so you could reach the max and not know it, since the try again later message did not display.

Just off Caribbean Princess with Premier package - daughter won a flower arrangement for her room. The message was displayed on the door panel.

I usually stand in the doorway with the door open and tap the panel a few times.

I don't remember getting any messageson the door panel at all on Enchanted in June. We won $25 OBC total among the 4 of us with Premier package (2 cabins) on a week long cruise. I found out when I was checking my husband's folio as I did every day.

Currently on Emerald, do not get the messages consistently, but only sporadically now, whereas before, would almost always get 1 of 3messages, Better luck next time, or try again later or Congrats you won a specific Prize.  Now mostly no messages and door panel returns to home/welcome state.

 

The APP will show any Prizes won, but your TV will also show the date and time the Prize was won.

We went to Guest Services on our cruise earlier in the year because there were never any mention of prizes on the door panel when we entered (when casino open). They said that we were registered but I'm not sure that I 100% believed it. No idea why it doesn't show you a message every time like it used to.

Sorry, I’ve not tried to play if we didn’t have the premier package.  From what I have heard, it’s like $10-$20 per day and not sure if it has to be bought for the entire cruise or by day.  I’m also not sure if only one can purchase it or not.  
I really think it’s all predetermined and has nothing to do with opening your door or not.  That is my assumption, though.

It's still a thing. We won AU$34 credited to our account last month on the Diamond. The 'better luck next time' message did show up occasionally but not every time we opened the door.

Just off Majestic and was on Sapphire last month. Nothing displayed on door for either ship but guest services insisted I was registered. No prizes on sapphire but I did win wine tasting on majestic. I only knew because I saw it in the prizes section of the app. No one ever called about it. I already get free wine tasting as elite (which I rarely attend) so didn’t claim my prize but I’m sure folks are missing out if they don’t know they can check in the app…
