Purchasing ahead of time: Cruise Cash -or- Cruise Cash Bar

Looking at this for our upcoming Liberty sailing. If I purchase Cruise Cash Bar, will charges automatically be drawn from that bucket when I, for example, purchase a bottle of wine in the steakhouse?

I've never purchased either of these ahead of time but, since I now have started to utilize AARP Carnival Gift Cards (@ 10% savings), it seems a good option.

I'm interested in how you guys have used either of these. Does it basically apply to your account as OBC?

Cruise Cash and Cruise Cash Bar both show as credits to your S&S account.  Cruise Cash Bar will automatically be used when you make any bar purchase until it is depleted.  General Cruise Cash will be used for any purchases.

Don't forget that both are non-refundable and are limited to $500 each for the cabin.

We normally will purchase a small amount of general Cruise Cash to get us started and then apply our gift cards to our S&S account, using the casino trick to cash out anything left at the end.

Well, since we're not going with CHEERS this trip, I'll probably max out the CCBar and CC. We can easily hit the $500 point with bottles of wine in the Steakhouse and some trips to the Alchemy Bar, and I can look at the regular CC as an effective way to cover gratuities and perhaps some chips in the casino (more than making up for any service charge).

THANKS,

Tom

Update (again) ---

So, I purchased the $500 CC, then logged out, signed back in, and was able to get $500 CCbar.

🙂

You could have done it with one transaction, you should be allowed $500 of each type of Cruise Cash. 🙂 I read your other post right after posting this.

Bar Cash is no refundable.   You would need to spend the entire amount on the bar.   Cruise cash can be used anywhere on the ship- including the casino so you dont leave any money in your account

Considering you have priority boarding and guest service line access, you may be better off simply going to guest services when you board and adding any gift cards to your folio as "credit". This would allow you to load as much as you want, spend freely, and also be able to have any remaining funds  mailed to you or cashed out via casino cage. I'm sure you'll have zero problems spending either the CC or CCbar but it's a way around the $500 limits and ensures a return of any unused funds.

Yeah well, considering this fella drinks Dom P, Caymus, Goose and such, I'm sure this won't be a problem. 😄

Yeppers - might as well live it up from time to time (while at sea), as my non-cruise routine is quite mundane !!

Cruise Cash nonrefundable? Can you not just go to Cherry on Top and buy a gift card with your cruise cash for any remaining balance to take home?

Cruise Cash IS non-refundable.  In theory, I suppose you could, as long as you have enough remaining to purchase a gift card.  I normally will use the casino trick to cash mine out, if there is any left.

If one is buying a gift card or "gambling" at the casino it's not being refunded, it's being used for the onboard account.

My understanding is that the go around is putting what's left into a slot machine and cash out. Now its refunded.

Why do you need to buy either of these? Why not just put the carnival gift cards on your account and the remaining balance will be refunded. Are you just trying to keep from having to do it once onboard?

Yes, trying to avoid standing in line at guest services when I should be trying to fit six guys burgers in my gullet.
