7 Day Solo Cruise

It’s been quite some time since I’ve posted in these forums, but better late than never. I have a 7 day Princess cruise booked for March sailing to Mexico and am having second thoughts because the friends that had booked with me have canceled. Work and family obligations are getting in the way of anyone else coming along with me so I must cruise solo. I’ve done a 3 day solo to Mexico and that was a blast, but I just feel strange going for a whole 7 days alone. If it weren’t for the very generous casino offer I would’ve already canceled. Thoughts? Suggestions?

I've taken several week-long solo cruises that included ports in Mexico, Belize, etc. What surprised me most was the amount of relaxation (read: falling asleep with a book on a lounger facing the ocean) I didn't even know I needed. Although I made (and kept) some great friends, most of my time has been restful. It was wonderful to go where I wanted, eat when/what I wanted, do what I wanted. I hope you're able to go and get what you need out of the trip.

My only solo cruise was 10 days long PLUS I spent several days pre-cruise in Miami. Beyond the hot-and-humid part of mid-September Miami, I had an absolute blast both pre-cruise and on the cruise because my hotel was located in the Brickell part of Miami, FL near both the Metromover and train station. This meant no need for a car as the museums that I visited were near the transit lines.

I have been cruising solo for 20 years an I love it😀😃😃

I am on a cruiseship as I type this reply and it is for 11 nights. I haven't been on a 7 night cruise in.....well I don't remember.

The joys of retirement, longer sailings!

Go on your cruise and just enjoy it all🙂

Go! Go try it and then you'll know how you feel about it. If you hate it, then you know. But if you like it, you can start to explore some adventurous iteneraries in the future.

I find the longer trips have a whole different tone. You might do the shows and special  food and venues and all the things the first few days in a flurry, and then still have half a week left to just relax, unwind, and spend tiime with the amazing views and wonderfully nice lounges around the ship. Longer trips mean you can slow down and let the day unfold, no worries or hurry. It's a great time to slow down.

It will be nice not having to wait on anyone when I want to go and eat or go to a show.

Most of my time will be spent in the casino so I will gamble at my own pace and have a great time.

Thanks for all the replies. Maybe I’ll see some of you on the tables or machines, good luck!

I'm in the same boat, friend had to cancel.  We leave Tomorrow.

Decided I'm going anyway, and will wing it.

I'm a masker indoors, and tend to avoid MDR anyway.

Will probably do most of my dining on deck, grill etc.  Avoiding CG and specialty.

Theres also good ole Room service.  Pizza on the patio... lol

You might make a couple friends in the casino....when youre Winning!

Thats the hope.

Sometimes Trivia is a good way to  meet a few folks daily.

Good Luck and I hope you have a good time anyway!

Youre Not alone, theres other folks in that situation.

You will enjoy your solo cruise.  I have done several and it is nice to be able to do what you want when you want, see the shows, sit on the deck or your balcony and just watch the world go by in the quiet.  You will meet other singles on your sailing and may decide to do some stuff together.  Enjoy and safe travels.

GO!  I've done a 6-night and a7-night with another 7-night booked in 2 months.  Sometimes it's nice not being tied to anyone else for your schedule.

Take my post-cruise schedule for mine in March - I could have booked an earlier flight, but I booked an 8 PM flight home so I could do a post-cruise excursion to Kennedy Space Center (and I SAVED MONEY compared to earlier flights, even when the cost of the excursion is factored).  If I was going with others they might have wanted to fly out as early as we could book.

Yes, you should go!  Is this one of the Celebrity Solstice cruises?  I’m doing the Mexican Riviera itinerary in April.  I spend a lot of my time in the casino, too, but the rest of the time I enjoy my balcony, the solarium, the spa, a cocktail, a cappuccino at Cafe al Bacio - as busy or lazy as you want to be!

I've been considering trying one of those Celebrity cruises out.  The one on April 15th has a cheaper fair and I like the itinerary down the Baja and west coast of Mexico.  But as first time cruise and as a solo cruiser I am hesitant to jump in.  Worried it will be awkward, weird and boring solo.  Also can I drink $100/day to make a drink package worth it.  lol

I've done 7-14 days solo--did my 1st solo cruise last year & I'm hooked!

(OK, I'm just hooked on cruising...and I love to cruise w/ DH but he can't go as often as I)

I am doing the Ruby March 26 on a casino offer.

Once  you cruise solo there is no going back to waiting on others. It is so freeing to do your own thing.

Not true for all of us.

Cruising with DH is my fav...but sometimes he has other obligations.

I've loved cruising with family & friends--tho admittedly I wouldn't want to anytime.

But cruising solo is lovely too.

Each has a different flavor.

I usually make quite a few “friends” in the casino when they see I’m wagering slightly more lol.

Are they charging you a fee to travel solo?  I have the casino offer too.

No, I only paid the taxes and port fees for one.

No, this is on the Discovery Princess. It’s a very lucrative casino marketing offer that requires me to sail before March 15th to unlock an even greater offer.

I did 8 days solo in November over Thanksgiving at it was awesome. Drink, gamble, eat, nap in no particular order, repeat. You'll love it.

Absolutely! More drinking and gambling than anything else.
