Rare babs135 Posted January 21, 2023 #1 Share Posted January 21, 2023 Do any ships have Cabins big enough for 3 adults? If not, are there single cabins? Absolutely clueless re River cruising.
Canal archive Posted January 21, 2023 #2 Share Posted January 21, 2023 I’ve never heard of triple occupancy cabins but most river cruise companies have single cabins although usually only one per vessel. Look out for special offers as I believe they can be more expensive. Good luck.

Absolutely clueless re River cruising. AmaWaterways has some triple (235 sq ft) and quad (350 sq ft) cabins on its newer ships. These were designed for their partnership with Adventures by Disney, so I don't know how well they would work for 3 adults. There is only one bathroom per cabin – it would be much more comfortable (IMO) to get two of the cheaper cabins.
Rare YoungDubFan Posted January 21, 2023 #4 Share Posted January 21, 2023 Some of the companies run specials where they waive the single supplement on some cabins. This would make it more affordable to get 2 cabins.
Rare steamboats Posted January 22, 2023 #5 Share Posted January 22, 2023 Both Triples and Single cabins are pretty rare on river cruise ships. steamboats
bubbulz Posted January 22, 2023 #6 Share Posted January 22, 2023 I looked at the Uniworld site and this is in their FAQs: Are three people per room allowed? Triple bookings are allowed only in some suites onboard the S.S. Catherine, S.S. La Venezia and the S.S. Maria Theresa (excluding the Royal Suite). Note that ships that allow triple booking may change, so we suggest calling Uniworld or your preferred Travel Advisor for the most up-to-date information.
Rare franski Posted January 23, 2023 #7 Share Posted January 23, 2023 I understand Tauck has some rooms for 3... the 3rd person sleeps on a pull-out couch. But, you do have to share a bathroom. Fran
ljandgb Posted January 23, 2023 #8 Share Posted January 23, 2023 My understanding, from posts over on the Adventures by Disney board, is that the third bed is more of a twin pull out and it not a big as a regular twin. I believe the poster felt it would not have accommodated a full size teenager, but was good for younger kids.
Rare Roz Posted January 23, 2023 #9 Share Posted January 23, 2023 I was on Tauck's ms Grace, and there are a few 3-passenger cabins. There were some families with children on the cruise and I think they had them booked. Tauck doesn't have single cabins per se, but they waive the single supplement on the lowest category of cabin. 3 adults in a cabin sharing one bathroom is too much, in my opinion. Keep in mind you'll all be trying to get ready for the same activities and tours at the same time.

It looks like the Quad cabin, which is actually the Suite, has a sofa bed to the extra two passengers. Still only one bathroom, and two cheap cabins would have 2 plus about the same space. Rare babs135 Posted January 24, 2023 Author #11 Share Posted January 24, 2023 Thanks for the replies. We've done 3 in a cabin on an ocean cruise and have worked out a rota for getting dressed in an evening (!) but I'm thinking that if we did a river cruise we'd be better with 2 Cabins. Rare Roz Posted January 24, 2023 #12 Share Posted January 24, 2023 As a general rule you're going to find the cabins on river cruise ships to be smaller than on ocean cruise ships.
