Dreamcruiser185 Posted February 16, 2023 #1 Share Posted February 16, 2023 My wife and I have never been on a Princess cruise, we are going next month. We have been carnival years ago, which the crowd was a little over the top with the partying. What is the nightlife on the Sky going to be like? Sox Fan Cruiser Posted February 16, 2023 #2 Share Posted February 16, 2023 I assume that you are talking about one of the 7 day Caribbean cruises. Princess does tend to be a much quieter clientele. But it is college spring break so you may get some of those folks. But they usually aren't interested in Princess. The nightlife will have different events in different venues but none of them should be the over the top party type.

I agree with @Sox Fan Cruisereven though they are not a Cubs Fan! 😁 It will be more laid back on Princess. We like it a lot better. However, we were on Caribbean cruises last year over Spring break on Princess. They had some crazy low fares and it attracted many Spring breakers! It was a little crazy at times, but fun. Not nearly as much partying as on CCL though, but plenty enough. 😳
MustangGT Posted February 16, 2023 #4 Share Posted February 16, 2023 (edited) Currently onboard the Sky. Haven’t sailed on Carnival but from what I’ve read, Princess is quieter but not dead. Lol! As others have said, Spring Breakers can add more to the mix, but we have found plenty to do onboard. No Mr. Best Legs or bellyflop games, if that’s your fancy. 😂🤣 Enjoy your cruise! And look for Yaniris is the Estrella Dining Room!! She is fabulous!! Edited February 16, 2023 by MustangGT
Steelers36 Posted February 16, 2023 #5 Share Posted February 16, 2023 Depending on the CD and ED, there may be a lot of entertainment scheduled in the Piazza in the evening. The sound crew (younger generation of course) tends to rev up the volume and it can boom around the open decks in the Piazza area. They have been liking to create the party atmosphere there, so it depends on the entertainment and how much the crew turns up that volume control. This applies to any of the Royal Class ships.

nini Posted February 16, 2023 #8 Share Posted February 16, 2023 The Sun is the first "Sphere" ship. If you are expecting water slides, hairy leg contests, rock climbing walls, etc. you will be disappointed. It sounds like you are not looking for that anyway. We were bored on HAL, but not on Princess.

Rare Rick&Jeannie Posted February 16, 2023 #10 Share Posted February 16, 2023 How “Lively” will Sky Princess be? It all depends on how many cruisers have moved over from Carnival! Be sure to take your boxing gloves! 😄

Compared to Carnival, Princess will be like travelling on an old age home. Early dinner, people falling asleep at the show & retiring immediately afterwards or wind up in the casino. Very few party until the early morning hours. Now I'm sure they'll be the usual people who say it's not true, so judge for yourself.
The_Force Posted February 16, 2023 #13 Share Posted February 16, 2023 My wife and I have cruised Princess almost exclusively over the years, with the exception of a couple recent Virgin Voyages cruises. Never been on Carnival. I would consider VV to be an upscale CCL with a slightly older demographic due to the price point. That being said, we like them both for different reasons. Overall, Princess is much more relaxing. Lots more pool area options, especially on the Royal Class ships, and bars to sit at and socialize (which is one of our favorite things to do). While I have witnessed a “Sexy Legs” contest at the main pool (pre-COVID), that was a one time event. Most ships in the fleet do have a late night DJ and dancing somewhere in one of the venues. Live entertainment around the ship in the evenings, Jazz trio, solo guitarist, etc. (depending on where you are) as well as a piano player at Crooners that usually does two or three sets nightly. I agree, depending on the date of the cruise. We went the week after Thanksgiving and I have never seen so many older than us. Scooters, walkers & canes were everywhere (don't be in a hurry LOL) The entrance to the MDR was a parking lot of scooters. That said, try to go to Good Spirits for the mixology show. And even though we aren't true jazz fans we enjoyed Take Five in the evening.

We've usually gone on 7 night Thanksgiving cruises, since we have a school aged child and have to sail during school breaks. Princess sailings have always been lively, with plenty of kids and middle aged peeps, but more sophisticated than RCI. We went on a 10 day Thanksgiving cruise last year, and good grief - only a handful of kids, but everyone else was pretty much an old geezer. My apologies to the old geezers who don't feel old - very happy for you! P.S. We are in our 40s. 🙂 Sometimes we bring our parents with us (70s).
StrawberryHill Posted February 17, 2023 #18 Share Posted February 17, 2023 Most of the ships we have been on are pretty quiet after 11 pm or so, even during spring break times. There is usually a late night DJ in one of the clubs and the noise / partying is confined to that area. Mostly its the crew members winding down after a long day. Princess does not seem to be known as the party boat company which is fine by us. Summer time cruises will have a lot of kids on board, not a lot of "spring breakers" , cant pack 10 people in a cabin like you can a hotel room. You will get the occasional " had too much to drink" person once and a while.
Oakman58 Posted February 17, 2023 #19 Share Posted February 17, 2023 I recently returned from a 16 day roundtrip Hawaiian cruise. Considering the age group of most passengers (65+ to 80) I rarely heard music from the era when those folks would have been young. It was rare to hear rock and roll music, and I never heard a note of Motown or Disco. All the music seemed to be ballroom dance or easy listening lounge music. The one band I did like was Los Brilliantes, a Hispanic group. I felt like I was on the ship of the dead. BTW, I'm 77 years old and for me, many of the ship activities were a bore. This was my first cruise with Princess and I won't be cruising with them again. I would choose RCL, NCL, Carnival, and even Holland over Princess.

If you've ever searched for photos/reviews of specific cabins you might have noticed there are several websites with different domain names that regurgitate the same generic information. When folks on a forum like CC mention they don't (or do) like Royal Class ships, they tend to know the class differences and can give an accurate answer. And, if someone provides inaccurate information you can bet someone else will tell them! 😂
