Do they still have the old plastic cards or is everything the Medallion now?

Will be sailing this Sunday on Ruby and wondered if DH can still get the plastic card they used to give out to open doors etc. or does he have to use the Medallion? I did order one for him just in case, but I know he doesn't want to use it. If he can where would we go to get it? Thanks for your help.

Out of interest, why won't he use it ? It is so much more convenient than the cruise card, especially when opening your cabin door.

The cards will always be available because the directions on the information sheet of the medallions instructs not to use if you have any magnets like a pacemaker. Liability dictates a cruise card alternative. I hate being tracked so bought a 10 pack of RFID credit card sleeves for $1 on ebay and put my medallion in my rfid sleeve and then in my pocket. I don't need a reader board to tell me who I am , I already know!

He's very old school. He likes the card because he uses it as a keepsake. No, he doesn't go to the casino much. He'll be OK if he has to adjust to something new. He may even like it.Thanks for all your help.

Aloha. I would use the Medallion but I love collecting the countless cards we have going back decades.  I have a nice wall of memories of them and luggage tags which provide enjoyable viewing for self and others.

My card had no information printed on it.

You're tracked on every ship at all times whether you have the Ocean Medallion or not thanks to upwards of 1000+ cameras on every cruise ship. And if you use the Princess App onboard, they know exactly where you are. 🙂

The convenience of the wearable Medallion (and the Virgin Voyages sea bands) is so much easier than having a card. But as others have noted, if you really need one, just go to Guest Services and have one made.

Exactly - Princess can track any individual if they so wish,  but why would they want to do so  ?

The only reason I can see is that they can Taylor their adds specifically for me.

Maybe they can possibly sell that info to other cruise lines.

Who really cares anyway??

Primarily for the ordering system. You can order a drink or other items via the app and they bring it right to you. They locate you via the Medallion. Virgin Voyages does the same thing. It's awesome.  I'm going to be using that quite often during our cruise on the Sky Princess.

Additionally it's a great safety feature so if the rest of your party can't find you and there's concern that you're still in port or could have possibly gone overboard, they can see where your medallion is.

Totally agree. But some individuals believe it to be some sort of plot to keep track of your whereabouts for nefarious reasons !

I don't understand the conspiracy theories. The moment you step onto that cruise ship you are under the control of the cruise lines. Their sandbox, their rules, their security, their surveillance. Any thoughts of 'privacy' are gone when you step onto that ship. They know where you are all all times with or without that medallion / wristband.

Perhaps a secluded mountain cabin or some remote island with no access to cell towers or internet would be better suited for those folks? 😆

Just once I'd like to hear one good reason why people are leary about being tracked.

Maybe there's something I should be concerned about after all.

I don't understand the theories either.

Why would anyone keep their Medallion in a RFID (?) metal case. What are they hiding from ?

Does he play in the Casino?

Hello.  I'll be new to Princess.  Um, why did you ask this about the casino in the context of the medallion question?  Does the casino have a different tracking method?  Traditional swipe card?
