Carry-on Wine

First time on HAL...Amsterdam on 3/26.

How does it work when you carry-on bottles of wine ...do they charge you $20 right at the port when you carry it on?

Anyone had experience with this?

You sign a charge slip and it is charged to your onboard account.

My experience has been: at the port there is a table where they count your bottles and put stickers on them showing you paid corkage. They charge it to your onboard account.

New to Holland so garnering info as best as I can...how many bottles can you bring on and how much is corkage fee?  This is assessed even if enjoying in stateroom only?

Yes, $20 per bottle no matter where you drink it.  Long gone are the days of free in-room wine.

The "how many" question has a vague answer..." a reasonable quantity".

Now that HAL is charging the  $20 corkage fee   per bottle at the pier on 2 bottles of wine ,we hardly think it worth while  to carry it all the way & the possibility of breakage  . Perhaps a wine package purchase on board  would be a better deal all around

A medium good wine purchased ashore and taken onboard is still good value, even with the $20 per bottle corkage, compared to the price of a medium good wine onboard.

A $20/750 ml bottle is charged on EVERY bottle, not just two. If you bring 7 bottles aboard, then you will be charged $140.

Soooo...no limit to numbers of bottles, cuz what might be "reasonable" to one is "unreasonable" to the next
