Price drop on cruise

Personally, if you have a CVP that you really like and trust like I do, I would call them.  I pick specific cabin locations and wouldn't want to chance a random live chat person to keep it.

Our Celebrity CVP told us if that happened to us, like on a weekend, to go ahead and put the new lower price booking on Hold, so as not to lose the reduced fare. Then we would contact him who would then switch our current booking to the new one on Hold and replace the cabin number (on Hold) with the one we originally booked.

Just so it's clear ... this means two deposits, yes?

Not on Celebrity. I would think it would be the same on Princess if done correctly. However, I would discuss this strategy with my Princess CVP (if I had one) just to make sure how and if this strategy would work.

This is what I do on Princess. I hold the cabin at no charge, email my CVP and she calls me in Monday and does the change (if possible). I have done this even if a better cabin comes available in my booked category so I don’t miss out.

Ah, that's right.  The "courtesy hold".   I guess if you can't get it done in 48 hours it's probably not going to be any fun anyway.

The big question is:  Did you make final payment?  Is your deposit refundable?  Often times, the new lower fare is for "new bookings only".  Would it be worth the fare drop to lose everything (promotional perks)?

 

More information is needed to give you comments.

You cannot re-book or re-fare and keep your same perks unless the promotional fare you booked under is still active being sold and Princess just happens to lower fares on your voyage.  You have to accept whatever perks are currently being offered when you re-fare.

We booked several months ago with a shall-not-be-named-big-box travel department. Based on a tip from my roll call, I checked prices on Saturday and we saved a substantial amount of money by calling the agency. Kept the same cabins and booking number.

To answer questions regarding my original post…


Final payment has not been made on this cruise.

The promotion I booked under is still going on.

Cabins in my same category are still available.

Price is now $200 less per person.

You have to look at the fine print for the new fare or promotion you are trying to get...Princess has been restricting some promotional fares to new bookings only.  If this is the case then you will have to cancel and rebook which means you will lose all dining reservations, ez air and excursions booked.

Would it be possible for someone to post the T&C to hopefully include the link where it specifically says that the posted promotional fares are restricted for a particular cruise and are only meant for new bookings? Also please note which specific cruise it relates to.

 

All I ever see is this when I'm doing mock bookings on the Princess web site.

Thanks! I find it interesting we were able to refare our 17-day Oct 2023 Canada/NE cruise on Feb 22 when this promotion was in place and keep the $150 per person onboard spending perk we got we booked the cruise last year.
 

Maybe it’s OK to refare an existing booking if you’re not trying to reduce your deposit, or maybe our cruise wasn’t one of the “selected sailings”? Not sure. But at the same time, as was in our case, it doesn’t hurt to ask.

We're booked for a B2B2B this fall. I recently re-fared 2 of the cruise segments. (The other segment had gone up instead of down.) In doing so I saved $1,135.68 off the fares and received an additional $650 in OBC. It can be done.

 

I put a hold on a different cabin and then had my TA contact Princess for the re-fare. He did so and was able to retain the cabin so all 3 segments are still in our chosen cabin. I did, however, receive new booking numbers for those segments.
