We leave in a few days on the Emerald Princess out of LA, our boarding time slot is 11:30, will the dining venues be open not just the buffet but the MDR? for lunch before our cabin is ready

DaVinci will be open from 12 noon until 1:30pm.

Don't believe any crew member who tells you differently. They all try to direct everybody to the buffet but, as stated above, there will be a main dining room open.

They give you a boarding card in LA which tells you the dining room is open. Also, we received one in FLL when boarding the Emerald too, mentioning DaVinci. We've cruised multiple times since January, and the MDR is no longer a secret. Downside is it's created tremendous lines for embarkation day lunch.

Every time I have asked about the dining room at embarkation, the crew directs me to the buffet.  I quit asking.  Go directly to deck 6 MDR (the one off the piazza.)  More than likely, that's where lunch is, no matter the ship.

One MDR, buffet, International Cafe, Pizza on deck, grill on deck all will be open and serving. You have lots of options..

One main dining room is normally open on Princess ships from noon to 1:30 on embarkation day.  It will be listed on the back page of your event listing sheet (formerly called the Princess Patter) in your stateroom.  it is usually the MDR off the Plaza on deck 6.

Forget about what boarding time you requested, just board as early as you can.  Drop your carry-ons in your cabin and then go to the 6th floor mid-ship dining room for lunch.  I recommend the beef tenderloin, but have whatever suits your fancy. If for some reason you can't drop your carry-ons in your cabin, just take them to the MDR.
