Connecting Flights at Heathrow

Recommended Posts

I have an international flight from the US to Heathrow, with a connecting flight to Copenhagen, all on British Airways. Both the incoming and outgoing flights are scheduled for terminal 5. What is the process for making these connections and how much time will I need to do so? Do I have to go through security or some other checkpoint? Thank you.

When we flew into Heathrow last fall, we had to go through customs and then another security check, the lines moved quickly.
Transit times are dependent on when you arrive- we transited through between 11am-12noon and then waited for our connecting flight.

Regarding checked luggage, if both flights are purchased on the same confirmation #, in most instances you will not need to retrieve your bags and recheck them- but it's always a good idea to check with your airline.

For this trip we had no checked luggage as we shipped it to our hotel in Rome in advance.

If you are connecting to another international destination you shouldn’t have to go through customs. I believe you must go through security.

Or perhaps a brief Passport Check (the name for Immigration in Europe). I agree, unlikely the OP will do Customs.

The OP shouldn’t need a passport check either, you are only in transit in the UK. (It would have been different pre Brexit.)

You will have to go through security.

But as long as your luggage is checked through to CPH, which it should be if both flights are on the same ticket, you stay airside by following the purple ‘Flight Connections’ channel and won’t have to clear immigration or customs until you arrive in Copenhagen.

If for any reason you go landside at LHR - eg because your luggage isn’t checked through because you have separate tickets for the two legs - you’ll have to clear UK immigration and customs.

No, it was the same before Brexit: no need to clear immigration for a USA --> Heathrow --> Brussels connection.

There will be a passport check on boarding, but that's an ID check for the airline to ensure that the passenger who's boarding has the same name as the boarding pass.

Funnily enough, I've just posted this in another thread:
