drjohn4 Posted May 25, 2023 #1 Share Posted May 25, 2023 (edited) I’m on a full sailing on Allure this week and there were plenty of loungers and chairs available right next to the pool at 11:30 AM on the second sea day. It looks like there are plenty of chairs when they are only taken by the people actually using them! Edited May 25, 2023 by drjohn4 7

Some people ignore the signs but you have to be REALLY rude to do so. I think they work on enough people to fix the problem. Thank goodness.
Tlbecker1 Posted May 26, 2023 #5 Share Posted May 26, 2023 That is amazing! Our TA cruise that just finished last week, was just the opposite. Folks were using the pink signs on the chairs to hold their towels for hours.
vjmatty Posted May 26, 2023 #6 Share Posted May 26, 2023 (edited) Enforcement is better too….on the Enchantment TA earlier this month, the people on the loungers next to us in the solarium were gone to get drinks or go in the pool for about 5 minutes when a crew member asked if we knew how long the seats were empty. I told them the couple had just left minutes ago so they wouldn’t lose their seats. That being said, the bigger problem was people parking at tables all day near the cafe even if they weren’t eating. If you wanted to run up to the solarium for a drink and a slice of pizza or sandwich you had to either stand or go back to your room. edrussell Posted May 29, 2023 #7 Share Posted May 29, 2023 Just off Grandeur for 7 days, with 3 sea days. ZERO issues with finding loungers any time of the day. Some obvious chair hogs, but not too bad.

Same thing on Navigator last week, as well as in the library/card room. People would plop down for hours, so nobody else could get a chance.

It might not have been in the exact spot I wanted, but I always got something, and usually could even find an empty clam shell as well. The Solarium was usually packed, but the upper pool deck generally always had empty loungers and was still far enough away from the main pool to be relaxing, in my opinion. I don't want to be right in front of the pool.
Rare HappyTexan44 Posted May 29, 2023 #10 Share Posted May 29, 2023 But but, if chair hogs are banished, and no one is using their towel to hog a chair. Then I won't be able to go down early on the first morning, wait for an hour then grabbing a bunch of chair-hog towels, thereby making us immune from being wrongly charged for a towel. So, annoying 🙂 2
ronandcarla Posted May 30, 2023 #11 Share Posted May 30, 2023 What's the deal with chair hogs? I must have missed an enforcement policy that's been missing for probably 30 years. If so, maybe there is hope for the Main Dining Room dress code recommendations.

Rare TexasRon Posted May 30, 2023 #13 Share Posted May 30, 2023 Chair Hogs MDR Dress Code Tipping Talk Three topics with lots of threads! There are always chairs available and I am not going to the pool, so the hogs make little difference to me but I can understand annoyance at them getting away with it by putting a towel on a chair and showing up six hours later. cruisegirl1 Posted May 30, 2023 #14 Share Posted May 30, 2023 Was watching a story on the news about the pool chair issue at land resorts. No chair saving allowed. And a casino resort we visit now charges $25/day to "rent" a pool chair. Not sure if high level casino players get one for free, we don't. Surely Liberty has thought of this as well. Rare nimbex1970 Posted May 30, 2023 #15 Share Posted May 30, 2023 now that you mention it.. we didn't have issues on the WOS early May. We were able to get 2 chairs near the pool. The pool staff was making circles checking on chairs. I was super busy with the grandsons and didn't take much notice of it.
PWP-001 Posted May 30, 2023 #16 Share Posted May 30, 2023 Hmmm... the first thing that popped in my head when I read the title was this... Could cockroaches go extinct? Cockroaches are one of the most resilient groups of insects that live on the planet. Their existence dates back to the Carboniferous era when dinosaurs still existed. They have survived several potentially catastrophic events and have evolved as a result, which makes it difficult for them to ever go extinct. Chair Hogs are the second most resilient creatures. 1
BobNoxious Posted May 30, 2023 #17 Share Posted May 30, 2023 It seems that the folks that complain / get upset most about chair hogs are the ones who sleep in and expect a poolside chair late in the morning / early afternoon. I wake up early, get my chair at 7:30/8am and eat my breakfast by the pool while my wife sleeps in. Always works for me. Also, there are plenty of chairs on the upper deck for those who enjoy sleeping in.
jbooth2099 Posted May 30, 2023 #18 Share Posted May 30, 2023 Simple solution to the chair hogs issue. We are sailing Sept. 4th on Quantum. Some friends of ours are the cruise right before ours. I am having them put my towels and some magazines down on 4 chairs next to the pool right when they get off the ship so the chair hogs wont get them before I get there. JB I promise you won't have trouble getting a chair by the pool in Alaska in Sept. 🙂 3

So, annoying 🙂 Towels? On one cruise a family put one flip lop on each chair and then a children's little book on several more. This was early morning. They never showed up until late afternoon and had the entire first row by the pool. After several hours we took 2 chairs just moved a couple flip flops over. When they finally showed up they started cursing us out. Saying they were their chairs even though we'd been sitting there about 2 hours by then.

They probably let their kids swim in the pools with swim diapers on too. 2

I've been on a cruise on a hot sunny sea day after a kid had a #2 "accident" in the pool. Hours of cleaning for that now out-of-commission pool. Now, I report parents who let their kids in pool with swim diapers and have them removed from the pool. Ditto for adults in diapers too! 3
smokeybandit Posted June 3, 2023 #23 Share Posted June 3, 2023 The solution should be that you need to reserve any chair. Reserve a chair, you get it for 2 hours. You can renew at the end of the 2 hours. But if your reserved chair is seen empty the entire 2 hours, then you cannot renew it.
Rare HappyTexan44 Posted June 3, 2023 #24 Share Posted June 3, 2023 A half-hour to have it reserved and sit empty seems like plenty to me.
bucfan2 Posted June 3, 2023 #25 Share Posted June 3, 2023 (edited) Rumor has it some peeps return plenty of relatively clean, unused towels to the towel station (if the chairs remain vacant for too long). Might not make the 'save the water' crowd happy, but I find it humorous 🙃 Edited June 3, 2023 by bucfan2
