Oh ship! It's my birthday!! A Summit Birthday Cruise LIVE Review!! 7/16-23 sailing!

Recommended Posts

Great review! And, Happy Birthday! We are on Summit in September for New England/Canada, so I’m enjoying reading about the ship. It’s my first time on Celebrity. I’m especially taking notes on the martinis! Sounds like I’ll be visiting the martini bar several times!

Also wondering who your waiter is. I know they usually try to sit you with the same one.  We had Irwan and Fika taking care of us. Loved them, but the whole staff is great!

Enjoy your first day in Bermuda!

Hey all!!

I haven't forgotten about you! Early yesterday before things got going, there were storms and the internet was being totally wonky, then it was a busy day! I'll do pictures later, but it was easier to get on my laptop and type this morning.

I decided yesterday I'm GLAD the Beyond ABC cruise over my birthday wasn't included in the super low solo discount! Cruising over my birthday seems to invite rain/storms on the day!! A few years ago I was on the Disney Dream and did a double dip to their island Castaway Cay. We docked in a little bit of rain our first day - my birthday - and everything in the forecast indicated it was going to blow over. Crew got off to set up and a few guests had gotten off. The rain changed to a storm, they had to hunker in bathrooms until golf carts could get them, and the gangway was closed the whole day - so we sat there usually able to see the island (sometimes the rain was so hard you couldn't)!!

Anyway.

The lightning cleared out enough that my glass-bottom boat and snorkel excursion booked through Captain Kirk's was able to go. It was a lot of fun - we went out to the Vixen shipwreck and looked at the reef, then to another area to snorkel. Of course the rain started while we were snorkeling, but we were all already wet so we just made the best of it. Once we got back on board, our captain and guide had decided that given the weather the swizzles or sodas were free. 😄 We all cracked up when they turned on the music on some kind of shuffle and the first song was the Pina Colada Song. We changed the lyrics to "If you like drinking run swizzles, and snorkeling in the rain." 🤣

OF COURSE the sun came out at 1pm! I'd showered and went and walked around the dockyard for a bit before coming back to get ready for the White Night Catamaran Sail and having dinner. I amazingly managed not to spill anything on myself at dinner!! My team in Blu had arranged for a special dessert for me - a gluten-free chocolate cupcake with a candle in it! 😄 The sail was the perfect ending to a great day!!

Today is sunny - after breakfast I've got the Devil's Isles Cruise and Snorkel excursion through the ship. Then it's good-bye Bermuda. 😞 The week has gone so fast!!!!

OK, I'll do some pics in the next post. 😄

Since you are onboard now, would you mind snapping a picture of the various plugs/outlets in your cabin?  We sail on the 30th and  are trying to figure out what we need in order to charge all of the devices that we seemingly can’t live without 😜

Today was the Devils Isle Cruise, Beach, and Snorkel. We finally had sun!!! I think somehow with my reef safe sunscreen I managed to not get burned - quite an accomplishment for pale me!

Dinner was French Onion Soup (minus the bread) and I combined the NY Pepper Steak and the Lobster Tail for Surf N Turf. Dessert was crème brûlée and the yummy cinnamon rice pudding.

(Nuralita had already removed the tail from the shell for me because I am hopeless that way.)

I’ve started doing a little bit of packing so tomorrow isn’t so awful. I thought I had found a Captain Marvel Invicta watch, but before dropping that much on it, I looked online and no - it was Captain America but the lighting was making the star and stripes look gold. So…no watch for me. Whomp whomp.

The Johns and I are meeting up in the Sky Lounge soon for the 80s night fun.

Here is the sun dipping behind some clouds to close the night…

We were on the Summit last week. There were 2 110 AC outlets at the desk plus one on each side of our bed.  I have a 3 port charger that I use at home and I brought that along as well as two iPhone MagChargers and we were able to get everything on at the same time.  Pictures won't help much because the outlets are all black and it is hard to see. I actually used the flashlight on my phone to sort it all out.

As a note - they are having a $5.00 for everyone over 18 for the machines in the casino, but I don’t even understand how to work those! Lol.

Tonight’s entertainment is a magician which is not my jam at all. I wish they had put the production show Life tonight and the magician tomorrow…but I guess they felt they could guarantee him better crowds when there was not an option to be off ship.

In the 3rd photo above, I just love looking at that water. All those shades of blue no matter what the weather.

Cheers to you!

Yes - our guide on the White Night Catamaran last night said he was always looking for more “fun” questions to add to his collection. Like “How many times a day do you do the sunset cruise?” and the guy who was trying to collect every color of water in bottles for his kids and could not figure out why it was always clear in the bottles. 🤣🤣

LOL

That's funny. I've heard a few anecdotes from there, but not that one.

Doesn't it bite that you're on the way back home? 😵

Absolutely!!

So much that when I figured out the watch was not Captain Marvel, I briefly pondered booking the 6-night Bimini, Cozumel, and Grand Cayman Beyond sailing right before the 8-night ABC Beyond sailing I already booked. But 2+ weeks away from my cat would be cruel. And I know I will be booking a Disney Wish cruise in the next couple of months for a friend’s wedding, so I am being responsible on multiple fronts.

I did take the now unused hangers down so they don’t rattle since we will be going faster back than we did coming - and Captain Nigel said we are expecting some rain, possibly thunderstorm activity in the early morning (like before dawn) hours in his report before sailing.

Oh yeah, before I forget ...

Where there any sightings of Bermuda shorts in the evenings during dinner on board?

I recall seeing some posts on the Celebrity boards a few years ago that was verboten, but some say they got away with it.

I did not see any in Blu. I know the first night Mariana - the hostess - was pretty clear that they relaxed the code a little the first and last night since people either didn’t have their luggage yet or had packed but the rest of the time no shorts, etc.

I don’t know what happened in Cosmo or Luminae though.

Yes, they are fabulous, too! They sometimes took care of us at breakfast. And Mariana is just the sweetest and handles her role as hostess so well. She seems to be able to keep everyone happy. And Serkan certainly keeps you laughing.

I know it's your last night but I was wondering if you encountered an assistant waiter named Jen.  We spent lots of time chatting with her 2 cruises ago. Someone told us she was returning the day we got off the ship. Please tell her David and Mary Boyd hope she's well.

Enjoy every minute of your last day! It;s always nice to have your next cruise planned before you leave the ship.
