Has anyone compiled a list of the excessively noisy cabins on the Prima?

I love the Prima, however in absence of a compiled list, if you’re sensitive to noise or a light sleeper be sure to take ear plugs and/or white noise.  We were in 13100 and the noise in rough seas kept DH awake…not me. Oh, and it’s under the bridge and he said he could hear the footsteps all night…not me.

It would be great if we do get a list built!

So far, I haven't found much related to "Loud" in the cabin reviews thread at the top of the main page.

We had a M2 Club Balcony suite, Room 10106. There were some nights with bad weather, last Fall.

I do not recall extraordinary noisiness. Although, typically, I do sleep with earplugs when we cruise.

Yet, I was able to sleep, so it must not have been terribly loud!

NCL has a list.

once again, for those that are suggesting white noise machines and ear plugs… if those are effective, you don’t have one of the prima cabins afflicted with this problem. the noise is loud, incessant and like nothing you have ever experienced on any other ship.

I believe you.  We (me) were only mildly affected.  Remind the OP of your awfully noisy cabin #.

BTW, in your defense…in our world, DH sleeps through anything and I am the mom who wakes at everything. I slept just fine on the Prima…perhaps yhe drink package.

avoid club balcony cabin #11344 at all costs.

full details here:

again, NCL has a list… all the cabins are noted in their database… they are just not sharing that list with their customers.

We had a Haven penthouse on deck 13 by elevator and it sounded like someone was jackhammering with a click click noise in between the jackhammer sound. We were given a very quiet balcony sleeping room on deck 11 pretty much directly below our crazy train penthouse room.  I was certain it was the Haven metal ceiling popping against the metal underneath it but we had the same ceiling in the aft owners suite on deck 12 for the subsequent ta and we had some typical new ship creaking in rough seas but it was not bad.  I’ve read accounts of noise complaints since then for that particular aft owners suite but having experienced a crazy noisy room, I can attest that the aft owners suites with hot tub on deck 12 is nothing too bad and just normal rough seas a little bit of noise that the average person can sleep with. I don’t remember the room number for the nightmare penthouse we had on deck 13 but was so thankful to have a quiet place to sleep at night in the balcony stateroom for that leg of our trip. The really quiet balcony we had was 11920.  It had no noise even in rough seas.

D you remember the number?

I don’t but they were working hard to try and fix the issue while we were onboard.  We were on the sailing prior to first ta last year and then the ta.  Hopefully they fixed it by now.

”jackhammering with a click click noise in between the jackhammer sound” is an accurate and spot on way of describing this noise.

they haven’t fixed this issue onboard the prima. at least they hadn’t as of six weeks ago. the only way to fix it is to tear the cabins apart in dry dock. their way of fixing it in the short term is to maintain a list of affected cabins, then offer a sleeping cabin (if the ship is not sold out), then provide $500 compensation per person if guests continue to express their concerns. if the ship is sold out, there is no place else to put you.

all hotel operations staff onboard know about this… GM, assistant GM, guest services, cabin attendants… when i played a recording of the noise for my cabin attendant, he said “oh, yeah, sure… i hear that all the time when i’m in there making up the room.” when you report to your “sleeping cabin,” that cabin attendant knows exactly why you’re there… he’s seen it all too many times. when you go to guest services, they know precisely what you’re there to report. and yet, many in supervisory or management roles pretend like the problem is unique and needs to be investigated. and many guests are very understanding and somewhat timid in reporting the problem… they think it must be unique… there couldn’t possibly be seven or seventy or a hundred and seventy cabins with this problem… who builds a ship like that?

NCL continues to book these cabins even though they know they will have problems with most guests in these cabins once onboard. there have been reports of this noise in cabins all over the ship, but the majority of the problems have been reported aft, including haven rooms. the biggest  marketing problem with the prima is that they built a dud. you don’t have a viable product if a certain number of your guests are kept awake every night. i can appreciate the predicament that they’re in… but they need to come clean and disclose these cabins to potential guests at the time of booking and deeply discount them, the same way obstructed view seats are sold in a theatre or arena. or they should simply not sell them.

Noise is so personal.  I don't hear noises but wife can hear a mouse belch at 100  yards.

Yes, same here. DW says I am deaf, but I have so far resisted getting a hearing aid. She recently retired as an elementary art teacher. I am sure that we all remember teachers who in front of the classroom with their back turned could hear us whispering in the back.

UK, while we've had noisy, creeking cabin on Prima, creekiest ever, still unsure how you know they have a list.  The lines generally don't share much with guests let alone do they provide what is advertised.

I've had three different hearing aids.  You'll be disappointed.

because staff onboard repeatedly mentioned they have a list and that it is noted in NCL’s database. every cabin has a record and a notes field within the database. all issues and all maintenance performed are documented there.

This is, of course, just one person's OPINION, but "we've entered the information onto our list/database" comes across as more of a "something you tell an upset person to placate them" than a "our IT department actually created a 'noisy cabin database' for us to use" kinda thing.

I wouldn't be comfortable laying odds as to whether such a list/database actually does exist.

IF...and I do mean IF...such a thing actually existed, I'd love to have someone call NCL and simply ask "Can you tell me how many cabins are currently on the noisy cabin list for the Prima?". I'd wager that such a phone call would NOT result in a number as the answer.

oh thee of little faith.

the list exists.

everybody from the assistant GM to guest services reps to the engineer who visits your cabin to the cabin attendants to corporate folks in miami acknowledge the existence of a list. and that suggests it’s more than just a handful of isolated incidents/cabins. this happens so often that there’s a list! they have a process for cabins on the list and a process for cabins not yet on the list. if you report this problem in a cabin not yet documented on the list, they send an engineer to your cabin to verify.

please note that not once did somebody tell me “we've entered the information onto our list/database.” this is not about placating customers or making it seem as if problem resolution is their top priority. instead, they will say something like “oh, yes, I see that here.” or they will say, “hmmm… that cabin is not on my list. let me send somebody to check that out.”

the list exists.

nobody knows how many cabins are on that list… it’s gotta be more than seven… we’ve had more than that many reports in this forum. is it seventy? a hundred and seventy?

nobody knows, except… much like the shadow… NCL knows.

this is the best kept dirty little secret in cruising.

(other than where all the veuve cliquot went virtually overnight.)

that’s a sucker’s bet. i would not take that wager. of course they are not going to give out a number. they believe it is in their best interest to pretend the problem doesn’t exist… the first rule of the noisy prima cabin club is that there are no noisy prima cabins. unless, of course, you’ve experienced them.

the bottom line is… you sail on the prima in high seas, you run the risk of encountering a hellish cacophony that may ruin your vacation or a good portion of it.

people can refuse to believe this, but they do so at their own peril.

To add, maybe TWO can create a spreadsheet like BA cabin size.

I can't take credit for that spreadsheet. That was bear3412.

I've made other lists but the one by bear3412 helped me when I first joined CC.

As for the noise, I've read several complaints about noise/sounds on Prima but a list wouldn't be as helpful as some of the other lists/spreadsheets. A noisy stateroom might be silent the following week because the weather/current was different. All cruise ships flex to some degree and the sounds can vary.

If it's a permanent sound like a noise near the bed whenever someone down the hall flushes the toilet, or the sound of cruisers going down a waterslide, THAT would be useful information. If the walls between staterooms are so thin that conversations or TVs can be heard by neighboring guests (I've read complaints of both on Prima), that might effect the majority of the ship.

Hopefully, any issues found on Prima will be corrected with Viva and with the remaining ships in the class.

???????

Been on the Prima twice. No non-normal noised noted.

We travel a couple of times a month and stay at a lot of "resort" hotels. Those tend to be far more noisy than any room we have had on a cruise ship.

We normally book a room on the top deck under the pool deck/buffet/sundeck. That's a personal preference because we are old and were always taught that the higher up and the closer to mid-ship you are, the "better" the room is. We also have learned that it is easier to get an elevator on the top passenger deck than in the middle decks.... so we're old and impatient.

Plus, I'm sure there's some sort of recourse they have with Fincantieri to fix defects. It would be really dumb for them to not be tracking all issues that have come up.

I wouldn't doubt if it's in some shared spreadsheet given that was how the casino tracked credit lines, but I have no doubt it's being tracked.

I do think the customer facing behavior on it kinda sucks though, they should be more proactive until it's fixed.
