Any recent poker tournament experience?

We're on the Royal for a 7-night round-trip to Alaska from Seattle in August 2023. Just curious if the casino does a poker tournament on this ship? Anyone have any recent experience?

Thanks!

Yes, they have been running those at the electronic table on occasion.  Also open $1/$2 NL play.

???? Is the casino open in Alaska territorial waters?

I should have clarified as a general comment.  But don't the ships go far enough from shore to open casino when they can?  I cannot speak to AK specifically.

We weren't on the Royal but were on the Regal last week.  Two sea days, Poker tournaments were held on both days.  Sign-ups started at 9, an hour before the tournaments started, and they did fill up both times.  There have been Poker tournaments on our last couple of cruises too, keep an eye on the Patter for times and make sure to sign up at the Cashier an hour (or sometimes two) before the tournament start.

Between Ketchikan and Whittier, 5 days, the ship is in Alaska waters. The ship never leaves into international waters. Are casinos open during that time?

I cannot comment on Whittier.

We did Juneau, Ketchikan & Skagway (changed to Sitka at last minute) last Sept. ; SEA to VAN on Discovery.

We had poker tournaments each morning on sea days & the casino was open late each night EXCEPT the last night. Rather suddenly the last afternoon (maybe 4:30?) they announced everyone needed to close out there account w/in the next hour as the casino would close then. We thought the casino would be open until 7 I believe--the dealers all looked confused as the Patters said 7 & that is also what they thought.

All Princess ships have had electronic poker tables for Texas Hold 'Em for many years and now the machines are second or third gen from the first ones.

Most not all.

Was on the Sapphire in May and there was no Baccarat or electronic poker table, yet every other Princess ship I've been on had both.   That said the Sapphire is my favorite Princess ship so I just spent less time in the casino.

As for the Royal they have a great location for the electronic poker table.  It's on the non-smoking side of the casino, forward section of the casino, very nice.

I've been on two Alaska cruises since the restart and usually the casino opened 45 min to one hour after leaving Alaskan ports which surprised me since according to the map it would appear we were still in Alaskan waters.  The nights I wanted to play I stopped by the casino after the ship left port and asked the staff who were setting up when they were opening as if varied slightly based on the port location etc.

Yes, there is no smoking at any poker table and they are all located in a non-smoking area, but of course the smoke doesn't obey boundaries.

Not video poker. I was thinking NL cash or tournament.  I assumed it was the electronic tables w/o a live dealer.

And yes.....go Vols! (Class of 04)

It has been my experience, tournaments can be arranged through the casino manager,  if there is enough interest. Players sign up and instructions are given and a good time will be had by all. Contact casino staff after boarding.

Symui,

I spoke to the Casino in Seattle a few minutes ago and was advised that there "should be" an electronic poker table on the Sapphire, but I noted that whether there "is" one differs from "should be" one and asked that they investigate the matter.

Perhaps one has been installed in the last few weeks? But if not I asked them to install one soon.

The representative promised to look into the matter and get back to me.

Thanks for the update and inquiring about the electronic poker table on the Sapphire.

I will be back on the Sapphire in December and it would be nice if they had the electronic poker table, fingers crossed for a Baccarat table as well as I found it really odd they didn't have one.

And it's always a surprise ending 😁
