Jayhoaps Posted July 14, 2023 #1 Share Posted July 14, 2023 Hey everyone this is my first time cruising with Princess, on The Ruby Princess. My last Cruise was on Royal Carribean and they had dance classes at 9 in the morning by the pool, it was mix of Zumba, pop music and Spanish music. Does anyone know if they offer dance classes on Princess either in the morning, noon time or night? Thanks in advance.
skynight Posted July 14, 2023 #2 Share Posted July 14, 2023 There is usually Zumba like exercise on sea day mornings. Usually in Club Fusion, deck 7 aft. Check the daily activity listings. There is no charge.
Rare cr8tiv1 Posted July 14, 2023 #3 Share Posted July 14, 2023 They have ballroom dance classes offered by either a cruise director staff or dancer. No partner needed, but rarely enough men. On Sea Days...look in the patter. Then they had some line dancing classes at lunch time. Go figure...

Depending on ship. Grand class ships usually hold classes in Club Fusion. Most ships will have sail away parties that may have line dancing...(not classes). I don't know about Royal Class ships. Staying away from the as long as I can. XXXXXXXXXX

Rare Kellyansapansa Posted July 15, 2023 #8 Share Posted July 15, 2023 We had Dancercise on the Coral earlier this year but it was indoors.
Rare trinitygirl Posted July 15, 2023 #9 Share Posted July 15, 2023 The Enchanted is showing dance exercise classes in the Piazza at 9am most days in August. I was thinking I might head along and see what its like. They also have ballroom dancing lessons. Its a port intensive itinerary so I won’t be on board for a lot of them, but cool to see the sessions in the planner.

On that class of ship any dance sessions will probably be held in one of the clubs, such as Club Fusion, where there is some dance space. These kinds of activities are held on sea days. The more sea days the more sessions. If you are on a tropical cruise there will probably be a sail away event and an evening party in the pool area. These parties and all other parties always morph into line dancing. Moves are very easy to learn on the spot. On longer cruises there may be a line dancing session where a staff member goes over Princess line dance steps. On Grand Class ships, Ruby, the Piazza is fairly tight. There is not much space for large dancing groups, and there is a lot going on there with the International Cafe, the Wine Bar, the Piazza Good Spirits Bar, tables for eating and chairs for sitting. The daily event listings as well as Journey View on the App, screens around the ship, & cabin TV will show any dance session times and locations. Like I mentioned all parties seem to always have line dancing. On Hawaii cruises, lots of sea days , there are hula lesson sessions with a stage show at the end of the cruise. If you are on one of the port intensive 7 day cruises, like Alaska, don't expect too much. Same with the shorter get-a-way itineraries. If you are on one of the longer cruises, 10, 11, 16 day there will be more sea days and more activities. Tropical itineraries tend to have those deck parties. Non tropical cruises tend to move the parties indoors into one of the clubs or a tight squeeze into the Piazza.
Rare Ombud Posted July 15, 2023 #11 Share Posted July 15, 2023 On my last voyage (Emerald 6/1/23-6/17/23) there was dancercize in the piazza each morning around 9. Hula lessons in Club Fusion (Hawaiian cruise). Emerald is sister ship to Ruby
Rare startedwithamouse Posted July 15, 2023 #12 Share Posted July 15, 2023 (edited) We had Broadway dance classes with Joseph, who was not cruise director staff, but a former Broadway dancer, on the Discovery in the Piazza. It was great fun. Edited July 15, 2023 by startedwithamouse

I believe the ships have gone to only ‘one’ page printed front and back and usually it will say ‘events’ listing but just off the Sapphire and a couple days it said ‘patter’ so another inconsistency with Princess. In addition to events, it will also have operating hours for most venues such as bars, dining, casino, future cruise, etc.

I believe in the APP, you have Journey View which is not always in sync with what is printed on the paper patter. When in doubt/conflict, the patter is supposed to be ‘correct’. I think you can get a close digital version of the patter by typing in your browser shipname.princess.com, using the ships intranet, meaning you do not need to be on paid WiFi. Replace shipname with the name of your ship, examples are ruby, royal, majestic, etc. You will see many passengers still prefer to carry on them the paper patter to reference throughout the day.

Cruzbw Posted July 19, 2023 #24 Share Posted July 19, 2023 I was lurking on this topic. Great thread and great information, folks. This is the way topics are supposed to be! All positive information, not a negative comment anywhere. Now I'm motivated to do some dancing on my next cruise in December. Woo-hoo!
Projunior Posted July 19, 2023 #25 Share Posted July 19, 2023 I do appreciate that Princess conducts dance classes. However, I wish they would endeavor to build on the classes with follow-up activities, a chance for those in the class to practice what they learned as well as to strut their stuff. For example, if a ballroom class teaches rumba, salsa, tango or whatever in the afternoon, then it would be nice to have the instructor conclude the class by saying, "This evening in Club Fusion we will play a wide variety of danceable music but with a special emphasis on ...", rumba, salsa, tango or whatever.
