Rare michuck1219 Posted October 4, 2023 #1 Share Posted October 4, 2023 If you use your Sea Pass in the casino instead of cash, does the credit card company process it as a cash advance or just a regular charge. I know the casino charges a 5% convenience fee. Thanks....
cruiseguy1016 Posted October 4, 2023 #2 Share Posted October 4, 2023 If you use your Sepass in the casino for gaming, it shows as an on-board expense. It will be charged to your credit card the same as other on-board expenses such as beverages, gratuities or purchases in the shops.
Tlbecker1 Posted October 4, 2023 #3 Share Posted October 4, 2023 The credit card will not be charging you for a cash advance, it will just be charged on your onboard account and be charged to your CC at the end of the cruise.

wolfganghowell Posted October 4, 2023 #6 Share Posted October 4, 2023 If you go to the casino cage to get gambling money on your seapass, they charge the 5%. If you put your seapass in a slot machine, it's just an onboard credit. As others have stated, unless you are Prime or higher at the tables, they will charge the 5%. It should also be noted that if you use the seapass in a slot machine, you can't simply turn around and cash it out. You must play it through - not sure if you must play the entire amount or not. But you don't want to try to use it as an ATM - they will catch you at it.

wolfganghowell Posted October 4, 2023 #8 Share Posted October 4, 2023 Thanks Beach, I knew you had to play a percentage of it. I always play it of course. Degenerate gambler that I am. 😉

PompeySailor Posted October 4, 2023 #10 Share Posted October 4, 2023 (edited) Be very aware even though this will all go on one credit card bill at end of cruise everyday RC will run your account against your credit card and you will have multiple holds and YES it will reflect against your available balance on your credit card I know as sometimes we do it this way instead of taking cash onboard and have played in the casino on Royal ships for past 23 years So for example if you put $500 on your room bill (seapass card) every day for 7 days you will see on your credit card $99.00 pending ( to make sure card is valid) $500 pending casino on Cc will show as RC $500 pending casino on CC will show as RC $500 pending casino on CC will show as RC $500 pending casino on CC will show as RC $500 pending casino on CC will show as RC $500 pending casino on CC will show as RC $500 pending casino on CC will show as RC $35000 pending Cruise Total Royal Caribbean final folio so for about 5-7 days you will have over $7k against your credit card balance each day one of the $500 pending will fall off, after 7 days you should only have the $3500 bill and you can bet your bottom $ the $3500 cruise bill will be processed way before the last pending is removed Edited October 4, 2023 by PompeySailor

wolfganghowell Posted October 4, 2023 #14 Share Posted October 4, 2023 Yep, agree with Pompey. I've started to bring most of my gambling funds as cash. The holds on my card have stayed for up to 3 weeks which is a major hassle. And you're right - the final charge is on there but then I have anywhere from 3-5 other holds as well. I get that they want to make sure the card is still good but 2-3 weeks is ridiculous.

Several years back, the hold was on my card for 6 weeks. Bank refused to release it - said Royal had not released it and they wouldn't do anything until Royal released. Long story short, I was on a conference call with the credit card and Royal and listened to the two agents yell and insult each other - each one blaming the other. Fun times. Needless to say, I don't use that card anymore.

I usually stop in and get a couple of drinks before dinner or a show without playing.

They definitely monitor who does a lot of room charges and if they think you are hoarding money (especially before a stop at Nassau where some people try to get as much cash out of onboard charging to go play over at Atlantis) they will cut you off. In general if you do multiple room charges and there are losses or a large number of points due to play on your account they don't cut you off, but they certainly look for multiple withdrawals with little to no play associated with it. I only play at the table and not the machines so I have never been able to take out a second $500. But that is good for me. I don't really want to lose more than $500 on a weeks cruise. I'm not a high roller just a player for fun. Edited October 5, 2023 by Tree_skier

Give it 10 years and paper money won’t exist and we will just have to suck it up and use cards again 😎
