Very tragic.

I would suggest finishing your cruise.   Going home isn’t going to help or do anything for him.  In fact it might make him feel worse knowing that you left the cruise.   Also leaving in another port may cause you more grief and aggravation than staying, plus the rest of your group needs the support of each other.

I agree with that as well. We definitely all need each other right now. I am being a bit selfish because I have a husband at home to support me, but the rest of my solo crew is single and it has to be as tough for them as it is for me.

I just got off the phone with Ted! He is okay and is already out of the hospital. He is at a hotel in Orlando and plans to fly home tomorrow.

That is great news, and hopefully the boost you needed to stay on the cruise, I'm sure Ted would be mortified if he thought he had caused you to head home early...

Hey Jaimie, I sent a GM post this morning then read all this just now and apologize for the cheery message (unknowing the situation) Very simply I send my very best to you and Ted and your squad. Strength to you guys.  I’m glad he’s ok and on his way home.  There’s always a next time for a re-do if you indeed decide to head back North. Sending good vibes to y’all. 🙏😊

Oh don't feel badly at all! It was such a crazy situation and I hesitated to post about it at all because medical issues can be very personal. That's why I didn't say anything last night. But I also knew I couldn't go on with my normal blog without mentioning it, since it is obviously profoundly impacting my trip and I didn't want to just ghost everyone who is following along.

@JamieLogical you have mentioned texting your group a few times; do you do that through the MSC App or mobile phone texting app (like WhatsApp)?
TIA

We were all just using our normal text messaging through our phones, but one of our group wasn't receiving those for whatever reason, so we switched to WhatsApp and that has been working for everyone.

Yesterday was a sea day, and as you know, I was really struggling. I woke up around what I thought was 8:30 on my own. I had set my room service breakfast for 8:30-9:00, I was worried I wouldn’t hear the knock from my balcony, so I stayed inside and started working on my blog. I was starting to worry that maybe I had filled out the card incorrectly in my daze from events the night before, but then I remembered that one of the crew members on my way out of the MDR at dinner had told me the clocks were supposed to move back one hour to Central time. So, a couple of minutes later, my breakfast showed up (they had been showing up about 15 minutes early).

I had my coffee and pastry out on the balcony and finished typing anything up. I didn’t want to finish that particular blog in a public place, since I knew I would be crying a lot. Plus it was now much earlier than I thought it was, so there was no need to rush. I talked to my husband a bit about the prospect of me leaving the cruise early and what my flight options looked like. I told him I was going to give it the day to decide since I was stuck at sea anyway.

I took my shower, dressed, and headed down to the Edge. I couldn’t snag a table as I was there later than usual, it was a sea day, and many people were already there getting their coffee and such. I sat at the bar and my bartender started making me a Mimosa Blossom without even asking me. At some point, when things started quieting down a bit, I told him about Ted and he said something like, “when is the last time you tried to call him?” It hadn’t occurred to me to try to call him, since we were at sea, but wifi calling does seem to work okay on the ship sometimes, so I gave it a try and he answered the phone! Words cannot even describe how good it was to hear his voice. There was a little bit of signal issue and the Edge was really noisy, but I was able to find out that he had been released from the hospital around 11:30 pm the night of the incident, he took a cab to a hotel, he was booked in the hotel for last night as well, and he planned to fly home today. He didn’t remember anything. The last thing he remembered was his vision going blurry in the elevator and then being at the hospital. He didn’t remember being taken to the medical center, Ray and I talking to him in the medical center, being taken on the ambulance, nothing. He also said his nose wasn’t broken after all, but he did have quite a black eye. As for the scans, everything came back okay, which is why they released him so quickly, Hopefully, once he is back in New York, he can see his regular doctor and they can get the seizures figured out.

He was his usual self on the phone. He was joking around, he said we need to take a million pictures at the Cozumel Bar Hop for him, he didn’t know what to do with the 9 pounds of Halloween candy they had packed back up with the rest of his stuff that he had panned to hand out onboard, so he was giving it to the hotel staff. While I was still on the phone with him, I had moved down to the Infinity Bar because the FB bar crawl was supposed to be starting soon and the main guest services guy (the one that had escorted me to the medical center) saw me and I told him I was on the phone with Ted. He wanted to talk to Ted too so I handed him the phone. He was very relieved Ted was okay and said he couldn’t wait to have him back on board in the future.

It’s still not clear whether Ted will make the second leg of his B2B. I guess that all depends on how things go getting home and if he is able to see his doctor before then. I let all of our friends know that I talked to Ted and he was okay and we were all just so relieved! I saw Ray in person going to the bar crawl and I kept hugging her. I ended up deciding not to do the bar crawl and Cheree and Ray joined me for lunch in the MDR instead. I had the mushroom soup, the Cuban sandwich, and the Boston cream pie. After lunch, I was ready to nap and get some real sleep, since I had barely slept the night before. Cheree and Ray rejoined the bar crawl.

I slept like the dead and didn’t wake up until 4:18. I went down to Edge for some coffee. At first, I sat at the bar, but I completely missed that Ray was already there with a table. I went over and joined her and waited for Ed to join us so he and I could head to the Diamond party at 5:00 in the Carousel Lounge. Ed, having been on this ship two times before, had never been in the Carousel Lounge! They were giving out unique cocktails. I tried the Lychee Sour and the Manhattan. The Manhattan was VERY strong. There was a live singer there performing on the stage, then the Cruise Director came out and did a little intro, then the dance instructors came out and did a dance, and then the Captain came out and said about five words in about five different languages, and then the performing came back out to sing and play guitar some more. I saw a few solo cruisers whom I had told about Ted the night before, so I made sure to let them know he was okay and then I headed back to Edge.

The group decided we would try to go to Hola! because nothing on the MDR menu sounded super exciting. I walked down there and was told we could get a table at 7:00. We had a couple of rounds of drinks and then we headed over.

Cheree’s friend, Jen, was able to join us. After we were seated and contemplating our order, a few of them decided they would still go to the MDR after for dessert at least, so we ate light. Eating light for me is the same as eating a full dinner, so after my one taco and my bean and cheese dip, I was too full for second dinner. I was also too tired for second dinner.

So, I just headed down to Guest Services. Ted had been wearing a ring (well, many rings, but this one specific ring) and the stone was now missing from it. He just had the setting in the bag of his things they had given to me in the medical center. It was missing an onyx stone with a T carved into it. I wasn’t optimistic, but I figured I would stop by guest services and see if anything like that had ended up in the lost and found. It hadn’t.

I then stopped by the excursions desk to ask if they knew which dock we’d be docking at in Cozumel. Our Cozumel Bar Hop leaves from the Senor Frog near the Punta Langosa dock and the email we received informed us it would be about a 10-minute cab ride from the other dock(s) to get there. Fortunately, it sounds like we are docking at Punta Langosa, so it shouldn’t be an issue.

After getting that cleared up, I went to the casino VERY briefly. I guess I have used up my good luck, because I burned through my casino budget for the day in a hurry with no multi-hundred dollar jackpots. Then it was off to bed for some high-quality sleep now that I had the peace of mind that Ted was okay.

Day's Drinks:

Double Mimosa Blossom x2 from Edge

Strawberry Mojito from Edge

Americano w/ Bailey's from Edge

Lychee Sour from Carousel Lounge

Manhattan from Carousel Lounge

Vodka Sour from Edge

Classic Margarita from Hola!

But if I was Ted... I would want everyone of you guys to continue and try to make the best of it and tell me all about it afterwards...  I would feel absolutely worse, if any of you guys were to change plans and cut the cruise short because of me...

I am so so sorry you all are dealing with this.  Praying he recovers quickly and will be cruising again soon.  You are definitely a great friend for all you did for him.  And like Buffet said above, I'm sure he would feel awful knowing people didn’t enjoy the rest of their cruise because of him.  I hope you have a better day today and can move on and have fun knowing he’s being taken care of back at home.

Nice!!!   Wish you safe travels on your way to NYC and hope to cross paths!

Also, I LOVE BUFFETS... (can you tell by my user name??? 🤣🤣🤣)

So I made up this chart to plan out our dining times, snack times and show times... I'm a visual person, so trying to decipher all the Dailies (posted by Jamie!!!  🙏) schedule in my head...my head was spinning so I had to put it in a drawing...  Sorry... it's one of my shortcomings...  🤣🤣🤣😥😥😥

Can you please run for President? This is awesome! I'm already thinking how I can make this for my Jan RCL cruise.

I was just devastated reading about Ted, but I am happy to see this update. It's true...it feels like Ted is a friend to all us us because you do such a great job with your live blogs. I'm so glad he is out of the hospital.

Hahaha!!!  Thanks!   If you want to post couple of your dailies for a typical Sea Day and a Port Day, I'd be willing to try to make one up for ya...  Otherwise, enjoy your upcoming RCL cruise!!!  😉

No, there is only a pull-out sofa. This is one of 4 "studio balconies" on the ship that is intended for only one person.

Initially the bed was pulled out but that blocked the access to half the closet and the mini-fridge, so my room steward and I made up the couch cushions into like a twin bed, so I would have more floor space and access to the closet.

Yes. I just booked #13342 for a cruise in Jan 2025.  Love that the solo balconies are aft.

that's a bit sad, innit?

The only way it's acceptable to us personally is when the 3rd bed is a sofa bed, and the kid gets to sleep on it...

It's a studio room for one person. Of course you're not going to book it for two...never mind three!
