Group Slot pull in the Casino question

How does one set this up? Is there any profit for the person who organizes it?

The ones I've seen have been set up as events in the sailing group (on the website that cannot be named). 

The main benefit is that the organizer will be using their S&S card for the event and thus be benefiting from getting the casino points (and casino rates later).

The last sailing I was on had 142 people at $21 each. That's quite a few points for the organizer.

This is the only benefit that I can see since any winnings would be equally distributed (or should be). I can only imagine how long it took for 142 people to play.

It also occurred to me later that at (1500?) points you get the DOU offer so they wouldn't have needed to get the Cheers! package. That's pretty substantial. 

I didn't end up participating but I did watch for a few minutes at one point. They ended up doing two more slot pulls at later times/days. It seems to be pretty popular.

And yes, the winnings are divided out evenly amongst the players (and in that case the extra $1/pp was given to a "high roller" pool  which was the person with the highest winnings during their turn).

The group you speak of (142) is amazingly large for a cruise ship slot pull, however the amount of points won could easily have been less than the 1500 you sited. Fact is, most people who would run a slot pull are probably there on casino rates and getting free drinks anyways. The real risk to the slot organizer is if somebody hits a hand pay...then the organizer will be responsible for the tax. Yes, there are ways around that but not guaranteed.

I usually only do a "group" slot pull with close friends who are only doing this to kill some time, enjoy a beverage, and we will work out any potential issues amongst ourselves as friends.

 

When it becomes an "organized" group event? I stay away for various reasons. There's usually a gain or profit motive behind it by the organizer. Usually points on their card albeit minimum, it's still there. The number of rules and time it probably takes to organize, means it's no longer a "fun" objective. The potential tax issue just complicates things. The organizer will receive the W2G, wants all other parties to pay their fair share of the taxes, whereas there will probably be no tax liability to the organizer due to income and tax deduction policies and why should Canadians or other possible nationalities pay their fair share when they would have no tax liabilities. Then, in every organized group there's going to be a "Karen" who lives for drama.

Therefore, I stay away.

142 * $20 / 2.50 = 1136. 

Not significantly less. Pretty close though. 

And yes they could be already sailing on a casino rate & perks. Or it could be the first time they've organized such a thing. No idea. 

I have to take y'all's word that 142 is a lot. I've never participated in one, just noticed them as events during previous sailings. I think I'd have a panic attack trying to herd that many cats personally. But I never saw a single complaint so it must have successfully completed or you know they'd be jumping all over the person in the event post. 

If you ever choose to do one, set a limit you are comfortable with. 10 people, 20 people. Whatever.

I have never participated in a slot pull,, but I do have one request for those who do: please be mindful of the other players, especially when choosing the machine you use. I have been on cruises where the participants have blocked many other machines, making them unplayable for others. One large group chose the machine closest to the casino cage, and the crowd around it made it almost impossible to get to the cashier, much less form an orderly line.

This past week, wife and I participated in 2. Yes, the organizer received the points, it was already agreed that 25% would be kept by them for any hand pays to account for taxes. No one had any problem with that.

As long as things like that are agreed upon in advance - sounds perfect.

Yep, the organizers (husband/wife) did a real good job and we had a good time.

Or scream on each spin or when the casino is also doing some event trying to announce names
