Thrak Posted December 4, 2023 #1 Share Posted December 4, 2023 We are booked on Discovery Princess for next April (the total eclipse cruise). Is the bar in Take Five like Adagio on Grand Class ships - ie. only open in the evening - or is it open earlier in the day? We are booked for dinner each night on Deck 6 which is where Take Five is located. I'm wondering if it is open for pre-dinner drinks or if booking dinner on deck 5 (near Good Spirits) is more convenient for pre-dinner drinks. (We prefer Vines before dinner but there is no Vines on Discovery Princess.)
Rare BlerkOne Posted December 4, 2023 #2 Share Posted December 4, 2023 On sea days it opened at 11am and port days I believe 4pm. I'll check the Patters 1

lx200gps Posted December 4, 2023 #4 Share Posted December 4, 2023 (edited) We use Take 5 as our go to place on sea days for peace and quiet as it is usually deserted, it's almost as if few passengers know it's there. It was physically open all day, but the bar only opens around 4PM IIRC. It's theoretically possible to use "The App" to order drinks to be brought in, but our experience was hit or miss, sometimes the drinks we ordered never arrived. Pre-dinner drinks should be possible even with their opening at 4PM, and it would be lot quieter than the other alternative, Crooner's. Princess is using the Piazza for a lot of VERY loud events, and when we were on the Discovery in October, at times we had to shout at the waiters to be understood. Take 5 is a wonderfully peaceful venue in comparison. When we were in Take 5 on the Sky earlier in the year, the bar featured a rolling "Gin and Tonic" cart, with a variety of very interesting Gins, most of which I had never heard of. Sadly, when we were on the Discovery recently, it was closed for the entire week for a slot machine tournament. AFAIK that was a one time thing and it has since re-opened. Rare Cruise Raider Posted December 4, 2023 #5 Share Posted December 4, 2023 @Thrak we we’re just on the Discovery last month and indeed, the Take 5 bar was open early on sea days. I’d actually get a mimosa at times to take it to one of the events in the theater. That’s a much better short cut if you don’t like walking through a smoky casino. The first week we were there must have been right after that casino tournament as there were still 3 large slot machines that were pushed towards the end of the room. The second week, they had disappeared. it was hardly ever crowded and such a wonderful place to get a drink and relax. I attached a copy of the gin cart that was in there mentioned above.
billco Posted December 4, 2023 #6 Share Posted December 4, 2023 Our routine on the Discovery Princess has been Vista Lounge (Platinum/Elite) and then down a deck to Ketchikan for dinner.

Thanks for the confirmation. When you say the Take 5 bar was open early on sea days, what time was that? On the Sky, it was closed every day until around 4PM, even on sea days. As we'll be back on the Discovery in Feb, it will be nice to have it open longer. Re the tournament, Take 5 was closed the week were aboard to set up for the tournament, to our huge disappointment, then also closed the week after for the tournament itself. IIRC, it re-opened the week after though some equipment, as you say, was still installed. Glad to hear they had been completely removed.

I don’t remember the pricing. they brought a similar table out to the piazza a couple of the mornings we were at sea but with bloody Mary’s and mimosas. The great thing was the Bloody Mary’s and Caesar’s were made with all the fixings, such as shrimp, bacon, celery, olives, cheese, lime, etc. you could even get one that was actually spicy. They mentioned that those were $2 over the plus package limit but they’d give you as many additions as you wanted.
Rare Host CJSKIDS Posted December 4, 2023 #12 Share Posted December 4, 2023 @Cruise Raider thanks! We have the premier package as well. I remember you having the bloody Marys. I'm hoping they have this on the Sky next week.

That’s his bar for now on the Sky. Just let him know it’s Kenny and Lisa .. I’m sure he has a lot of adopted parents. He will make you a fabulous drink. I think it must have opened sometime between 10:00 and 11:00 AM. We always went to go see Leo Rossi’s shows in the theater and would stop by to grab a morning drink before we went in. We also had our cruise critic meet and greet in there and it was open for that, as well.

We very much love using Take 5 on sea days, sitting at those amazing big comfortable window seats watching the sea flow by, and we missed having daytime bar service in Take 5 on our sailings. I'm glad they offer it on the Discovery.

Agree, but the meet and greets, LGTBQ meets, quiet lectures etc are usually not an issue for us. Often they only use half the Take 5 floor space (as we know, it's sort of a two area design anyway) so we often just sat in the unused area minding our own business and never had a problem. What WAS problematic, at least for us, was when they used it occasionally during the day for games such as bowling. A few times we had to leave for an hour to escape the screaming and yelling, but this is rare. Otherwise it's as quiet as a library, and wonderfully peaceful. The OP was wondering about using it as a pre-dinner venue and even at that time, it's not usually as full as other venues like Crooners.

It was open for our M&G and during trivia etc. If it's not open before dinner, you could always go to the Casino Bar right next to it or as you said Good Spirits. Take Five is a nice venue in the evenings a bit more lively than Adagio (one of our favorite venues). Good music, some unique cocktails and comfy places to sit.
